Title: Shin Megami Tensei Online
Post by: Nanashi on December 08, 2008, 04:00:40 PM
Yeah, I was shocked by this as well. Here's the site: http://megaten.aeriagames.com/\

It's a closed beta right now, so get in while you can.

I got in the beta, but only played it once, since Persona 4 came out not long after and you know I've been all over that...

I didn't get far, due to my internet constantly disconnecting me, but I at least got through the tutorial. The backstory seems pretty neat, and its nice to see all the familiar Atma/Demons.

I'd probably be more into it if I had any interest in MMOs, but this one I am willing to give a shot.

Apparently, it takes place after DDS.

Also, P4 has eaten my soul as well. I'm currently in November.

I got to play this when it was in beta in Japan. I am happy it finally came out here and so far
not too bad. I hope the game catches on tho I wonder if it will be pay or for free like the other games Aeris has on their site?

Looks interesting, maybe I'll jump in...maybe...

Also, ITT: We talk about P4
I'm in May, but I just got done with school so I should be able to get deep into the game over break.

Haha, I was worried about derailing the thread but I was tempted to talk about P4 as well.

I'm in August right now. Expert mode is a beast this time around...

Just beat the game at 5 AM this morning.

And I'll tell ya, I so called who the killer was like, a month into the game.

I wish I had more time to play it honestly. In between school, work, and sleep, I've been sacrificing the latter to make time for the game.

And I've had my thoughts about who the killer is since around the beginning as well. It wouldn't be a spoiler if I said who I suspected, since I don't know if its true or not, but I don't want to say because I don't want anybody to confirm it for me.

Just tell me this much. Was the ending satisfactory?

So far, one of my favorite Social Links is Dojima-san. ...And of course the Nurse.

The "true" ending is sorta bitter-sweet, and it brought closer to the story line, while leaving room open for a direct sequel if they wanted. There's also the bad ending and the good ending. The good can only be gained on the second play through, I believe.

EDIT: I realized I didn't answer your question at all. Yeah, I liked the ending.

This game is awful.

At first I was like "wow, this looks awesome, oh hey I'm kinda leveling...WHAT?! There's only 2 dungeons? I have to buy stuff to level? Wait the items I need are 1/90 chance of getting? It's going to take me a year to gain a level at such and such point?"

Yeah, not playing it.

Are we playing the same game? I have seen nothing in this game that you have mentioned here.

Mitsuo is the really ugly kid, right?

Try level grinding a bit, between 6 to 10 levels. After that, fuse a new persona, probably one with good healing abilities. I did this for every boss fight, and I breezed through them with out too much trouble. Make sure that you're in control of the whole party, too, if you haven't already. That helps A LOT.

That being said, I beat him doing the following: if you're using the "default team" (Chie, Youske and Yukiko), have Youske and Yukiko spam their most powerful magic, with Chie doing her best physical attacks. Have the MC heal the party, and if need be, have Chie do the same.

Also, for those of you who play it, SMT Online is deleting all characters in three or so days for the Open Beta. Just a heads up.

yea thats the guy im stuck on! .. im currently at lvl 39 or something and ive been doing that kind of training for a while. (i only have one day left till the fog sets). i have good healing moves and my personas that i think are good already are Gdon, Setenta and stuff like that...

i think my problem is that the boss does those elemental moves and makes my characters fall on critical then he does that really powerful move and knocks at least one or two of them dead the same turn. i think i read on a walkthrough guide that you should prevent your characters from falling so that he doesn't do that powerful move?

also... i need to find the ara minitami and ghoul personas for fusion but im not sure where they are... im pretty sure tho ive run into them in the previous lvls before....

Well, if you didn't already know, blocking prevents characters from being knocked down by their weakness.

As far as level grinding goes, try starting at the first level of the dungeon, and fight every enemy you come across until you reach the end. Then, fight your way back to the start. You can easily gain 5 or 6 levels doing this.

I just beat that boss yesterday, after being stuck on it for a few days. You're in the same situation as me; stuck on pretty much the last day. Make sure you have items that get rid of Fear, otherwise have your MC guard a lot. You have no idea how irritating it is to grind down that boss's health only to have it insta-kill you...

...Creating a Persona with Null Fear works too. Good luck.

I was disappointed with that, but I haven't gone back to start over again. I was wondering if people here are grouping up (or not)?

Isn't this supposed to be some sort of Mabinogi ripoff. :|

A wee bit OT:

I dunno if all the Fry's Electronics have it but I was able to get the artbook that came with Persona 4 for free. They had no idea until later that it was supposed to be with the game. They had quite a few out there at the Fry's in Sacramento.

Ah k. Could be mistaken. Was having a conversation about crappy MMO's my friend has been going through, and I could've just mixed this one up with another. My bad. :U

No need for apologies. MMO's are a dime a dozen nowadays, so it's easy to mix them up.

It's really frustrating when you wait to download a new MMO, play it for less than an hour, realizing it sucks and deleting it seconds later. :(

That was my experience with Mabinogi. I spent all of 20 minutes playing it before I deleted it, due to how poorly designed the interface was.

Worse is when you find an MMO that looks awesome, but it either doesn't work or you end up having to pay real money for any half-way decent items.

I have no patience for RPGs now-- the only one I decently liked was WoW, which was very love/hate. As for free MMORPGs, though, last one I was okay with was possibly Fiesta Online and FlyFF... sorta. Mabinogi was very boring, but I can at least see why some people may enjoy it.

If I remember correctly...I did like how you can play certain tunes.  That was pretty interesting.  Though thats about it...By the way...If you see me, the name is XII.  Havent played in a while so Im a bit rusty...
