OVER 2000 HOURS OF MY LIFE GONE!
*Que Mozart* (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKW9o_5jw6U&feature=related)
In all honesty, I would rather my 360 be dead. That can be replaced. The stuff on my HD cannot.
My treasure trove in Oblivion
DEAD
My Mechs in Armored Core 4
DEAD
My collection of Halo3 saved vids
DEAD
My Fable 2 Characters
DEAD
*Sigh*
Well, my Fanime fund will have to suffer to buy me a new HD.
Starting over from scratch will be a pain, and I will likly not want to visit the old games any longer.
But on the bright side, I finally get to replace that horrible 12gig HD. They cant hold anything. The 8 extra gigs from the 20gig will be welcomed.
RIP
Xbox 360 HD...
WHY MUST THE GOOD ONES DIE?! ;_; I'm sorry to hear this. *goes and huggles 360*
O_O
sorry to hear man.
:(
Well at least it's not my 360 too.
It had 3RRs all JAN. They have suddenly disappeared however.
I escaped one reaper for another.
My HD has been replaced. Luckily this used one is not broken. Still cost me a good 60 bucks from my Fanime fund though.
Where will you begin with building new memories?
Looks like my bad luck has infected someone...

In all honesty, my 360 should have been dead long ago. I got it a year after launch, and somehow it's still alive. All my friends 360s where newer and still RRoD-ed. Something had to die sometime.
o.. then why did my xbox have to break 2 months after I got it....;-;
Darn, my sister's 360 just recently got the "rings of death".
What the hell is going on?
Is the 360 at my house gonna be next?
I better stop now....... :(

Never say it won't.
I remember my FRD saying how his box would never get RRoD while we were talking to the guys at the Gamestop. We went to his house right after, turned his Xbox on, and sure enough, RRs.
Considering the fact, I was particularly happy that I seemingly escaped the rings, which probably led to E68 (HD Failure).
The 360 is cursed.
On another note, my 360 got a curse from Oblivion. After putting it in for the first time, the disc lens has never read discs well, even after cleaning it off with alcohol.
Thats interesting, i know of systems going out.
but the HDD too? man, i feel for your loss.
first Lord Kefka's Ps3 and now your your Xbox HDD.
It makes me wanna punch the economy in the face. :-[
My brother told me today that our 360 has the Red Rings.

I don't have either a XBox 360 or PS-3. Do either have a way of backing up their hard drives like a computer can?

I am almost certain that both do not.
Which sucks.

Hey! Third party developers! are you reading this? Y'know, USB port+
your back-up software, owner provides external storage unit? I bet lots of console owners would buy...
This is why when they* continue to make Star Wars Battlefront 3 I'll get a laptop!
*those who will pick up where Pandemic left off.

actually, I know for a fact that you could transfer out memory from the ps3 out onto memory cards [for the older systems that have the memory card slots] as for using the USB slots and say using a flash drive... I havent tried it yet.
I play my systems pretty much alot, and I'm lucky [knock on wood] that I've never had any issues with my [old fat] Ps2 with hard drive [yes Ps2 did have hard drives back in the day], Ps3 and xbox 360.
most users REALLY need to put their systems in a cool ventilated and semi dust free environment.
Take care of yout systems people! :)
I just found out my bro red ringed, but he unplugged his 360 right away and let it cool off for a while. He turned it back on later and it was working o.0
What a lucky, or smart, sob.

Red rings can happen for a variety of reasons.
If I remember correctly, 2 bars means over heat, 1 and 3 are various hardware failures. Not sure about 4.
My box overheated lots during the summer. But all you got to do is let is cool, or even just restart it. Heck, over heating it is good when you get real red rings.

Yeah, but that's only a very limited amount of storage. What if you have an 80GB system with a lot of downloads?
Also, there would probably have to be some way to insure the saved back up could only be restored to one unit (weather it's your repaired unit, or a replacement) so you can't go around "Cloning" one console.
As far as the "Environment", you are 100% correct on that. You should see how many Point of Sale terminals I've had to replace due to bad environment, and housekeeping in it's general area.
