Title: Lolita experts, please help me?
Post by: questionette on March 25, 2009, 06:40:55 PM
So I am very new to the lolita thing - I have done research but have yet to put on a dress.  I have been researching relatively cheap (since I am a poor college girl) websites where I can find good quality outfits and dresses.

So far I have heard:
DO NOT buy on ebay
and
DO NOT buy from bodyline

and I have also found www.fanplusfriend.com, where I have become partial to these dresses

and www.annahousefashion.com, where I have become partial to this outfit

Could someone please give me some recommendations as to which website I should buy from? Or have any other suggestions on where to buy?

Have you or anyone you know bought anything from these two companies? I'm really concerned about quality...

Fanplusfriend is hit or miss from what I have heard, and I have heard that they tend to mess up measurements.

The two outfits you picked out from there look a little cosplayish to me, anyway. On the first one, the shape of the skirt seems off (a-line shapes can work easily in lolita, especially classic loli, but the extreme triangularity of this one looks really off and it makes the waist look lower than it really is), and all that odd sheer stuff (the trimming and the apron) make it seem cosplayish. The second one might be okay if done in only two colours (fabric + trim), but all the extra detailing, mish-mash of colours and materials, etc., make it look like cosplay.

The third picture isn't working for me, but I can't think of anything from AH that is bad. They have pretty nice quality from what I have heard, too. I would go with the third outfit, even without seeing it. :D

Fanplusfriend is very hit and miss. Their lace is awful and they get sizes wrong pretty often but despite that they're still the best on ebay. Anna House is actually really good quality for the price. I bought a skirt, bloomers and shoes from them and love all of it.
