Alright, so this has been freaking me out a little, this is my first year going to fanime and I've been reading in the forums that you need an electronic postcard and a state-id or something like that.
Well, I have none of those as of yet and an expired passport I can't find.
First, I'd like to ask, has the postcard been given out yet, and if it has where do I find it?
Also, what other options are there in place of a state-approved id?
I have a school i.d. and birth certificate, bus pass if that counts....
and I don't know if I really have any time to get any other i.d.

I'm not sure what else you can use as ID, but if you email
[email protected] they should be able to help you.
As for the post card, it has not been released yet. Its just a paper print out with your registration information. It makes badge pick up go alot faster. You can print it out on the main site under the registration tab.

The i.d. is still troubling me though, since fanime is pretty close,
I've tried emailing them and am waiting for a response,
but can anyone else tell me any alternatives or quick solutions?

Passport, military ID, CA state ID, Driver's License..

what can I get at the DMV that is approved as a state-i.d. but isn't a real driver's liscence?
since I can't get one...well legally I can but...yeah..
Pretty much all ID from the DMV would take way too long to get now that Fanime is really close...

I heard it wouldn't take around two to three weeks to get an i.d. from them..
hmm, is there any other options?
At this point...it would be best just to wait for an email response. ^^

We need a reliable way to confirm that you are indeed you. A school ID is simply not standardized. There are varying amounts of information on them. Minimum we are looking for 1) picture 2) name 3) address.....physical description would be nice too.....and quite simply school IDs do not have that.
Why do we need these things?
1) so that someone is not registering your membership
2) so that we can use your addy when someone has the same name (The number of Nguyens is absurd)
3) Know who we have at our con for law enforcement
4) know who/where to contact if you get hurt or incapacitated (I don't understand unconscious people that well)
5) Know who to contact if you break the rules/the law/stuff (They tend to lie)
There are more reasons, but I'm tired:P

You might not want to go through the trouble of faking a school ID, but I've actually seen fake school IDs. Since there's no standard template for school IDs, people can pretty much make anything, laminate it, and boom! Fake School ID. :P
