idk if you just want to attempt to please the crowd then just sing during open mic. A few more good singers during then is always good. But if you don't really want to win the Karaoke contest, it's best to let those who are serious about it sign up.
I hope to see some new faces in the contest this year as well. It kind of seems like the same certain people sing up over and over again, but I guess I can understand why.

I was really serious about signing up for this karaoke contest. And I hope the people that got in are too. Cause now my mother is fussing how she doesn't want me to miss an entire day of school for this convention. And I don't know if I'll be able to sign up or not.
If people drop out then I will find it funny and interesting.
I hope we have some real talent in this list instead of a few weirdos who could possibly just perform in open mic or the gong show.

Singing in costume is gonna be fun too. My costume is Byakuya from Bleach. Imagine that strong silent type singing a super girly song!! I'll prolly wear that either Friday or Saturday. If I get into the contest, tho, I'll prolly change my costume to something that looks better.

simply because 1) I want to show my talent even if I'm small and young, I want to be compared with other people since I am very competitive and am in choir [although I don't wanna sound snobbish but I have advantage since I have my choir director to help us ^_^v]

Agreed. I was in choir myself(back in high school--oh how the years go by), and I used to work as a karaoke dj for a long time. This is my thing! And I will compete even if I have to camp outside the karaoke room starting Thursday. (Ok, that's a little extreme. It's not like this is American Idol or something.) よ〜し！がんばってくれ！！
It is SO on. I was in choir for 6 years and my mom has a degree in music with a focus on voice, so when I'm doing something wrong she tells me, and I've been coached on occasion for auditions, though I've never had formal voice lessons. Someday I'll get those. My friend L. Jupe was in choir in high school. We aren't singing together, but we will be rooting for each other the whole time. :3

In fact, how old are you people competing or trying to sign up at con to compete? I'm curious about the range of ages that will be in the competition.
I'll be 23. My music history is pretty much the same as yours(my mom's a professional singer and my voice teacher)....and a lot of others, likely. ^_^

This will be my second competition. If anyone knows about gendou.com, they had a gendou idol and I was in the finals (they haven't given out final results yet, but meh). This will be different, though, because I have to sing live and get the audience's attention.

I heard you can bring your lyrics up on stage with you, but you'd probly get docked points for that. It just looks better if you have it memorized. And it's easier, cuz you can concentrate on entertaining the crowd and moving onstage rather than looking at a sheet of paper. Or you could write down cues on your hands!!! My friend used to do that for tests, but the notes were all in kanji so the teacher couldn't read it!

i was wondering...do i have to start singin from the beginnin of the song or can i cut the song up and start singing from the chorus-ish area? i mean we are allowed 2 and a half minutes to sing and what if a favorite part is the chorus? i would keep the same song..just cut out the beginning. is that possible?

Yes you have to start from the beginning. The only exception is if your song has a long instrumental introduction, then we can skip to the part where the singing begins.

There are no points docked solely for using lyrics sheets. It all depends on how you use it. If you're just looking at it every so often, that should be fine. But if your nose is buried in the lyrics sheet the entire time you're singing, then yes the judges would dock from your performance score for that.
whoooo it seems i may not be able to sign up afterall because I'm on the assistants for the B&W ball!!!!!! and i have to meet at 4PM with the instructors.
