FanimeCon's 2014 Theme is ... I don't know, but I think it is Celebration... but I have an interesting idea for a great gathering for this 20th Anniversary year of FanimeCon!?.
How about we get all the cosplayers out front in one placeand at one time and have a "Cosplayer Gathering." I have always wondered how many cosplayers we could get out there in front and now the construction is over we can meet up and actually do this... but I know I would need LOTS of help to pull this off.
So is this worth trying... could we do it... should we do it? Tell me what you think of this idea.
Squidges to all :)

YEAH! Your the first one's I've added to the list! I am working on FFVIII characters over the summer, but if I get the time before September I want to go OLD SCHOOL and do two characters from Arc the Lad :P but it is pretty much a guarantee that I will have the FFVIII characters done because of running the FF ALL gathering on Saturday in 2010.
EVERYBODY... If you can think of any Fantasy RPG titles (yes, that means computer games too :P ) Please post them here so I can add the titles to the list!
Much Love

Heya B,
Not sure if I have a cosplay planned/set for this gathering, but I am willing to chip in with RPGs to put on the list for the gathering. Probably going to try to get to the gathering to take photos at least.

I can use the help :) Give me a list of titles you think fall under Fantasy. Everyone is open to add to the list of titles.
I hope to build this gathering into the Fantasy RPG gathering it should be :P but I need help from my friends out here to make a complete list. On a side note... I laughed when I heard what the theme for 2010 was because I had already launched the rebirth of the FF ALL gathering which in itself is a HUGE gathering, but there are other Fantasy titles out there (Computer, XBox 360, Nintendo, PS3, Table top & Board games old school or new that are Fantasy RPG are all ok for this gathering!) So give me some HELP Please! :)

Steam punk huh?
I wonder if I can do a Russell Cosplay Variant in steam Punk.
I get to wear goggles! :D

hmm...I don't have anything that's actually Steam Punk. However, If you think about it Howl's Moving Castle is fairly Victorian in style and the castle itself really lends itself that way. Maybe I'll explore some alterations on my Sophie cosplay to include the Steam Punk theme. Details to follow as I complete my thoughts. lol.

OMG Jerry that would be awesome!
Hmm, I seem to recall someone referring to Samurai 7 as steampunkish, so I think my Heihachi Hayashida cosplay might fit in.
Hm.... you know what I'm wondering? Cid from Final Fantasy 7, would he count? The goggles and colors kind of make me think so... but I'm not exactly sure. Any opinions?

Most any character can be "steam punked" however I don't think a standard Cid Highwind from FFVII would be considered "steam punk" in style. The male characters in FFXII are closer to that. What you are looking for is more Victorian Era based clothing and as for props and accessories they to will be Victorian based. For instance take a modern guitar and imagine making it back in 1887 out of the materials available. You don't have to create the guitar, but you need to make it "Look" like it was.
Hope that helps. I did post a link on the 1st post with some great 411 on Steam Punk & photos of cosplay done steam punk style.
Would a wind up doll type cosplay work. It doesn't have to be super hardcore Victorian. From the article I read (thanks B!) I am understanding that your steampunk cosplay will work if you keep the Victorian technology, imagination, and general mind set. For example, my understanding as I just pust it, Dorothy of "Big O" would be steampunk because she is essentially a clockwork android.
So, do y'all think a wind up doll cosplay would fall under the category of steampunk?

I'm going to allow Victorian Cosplay of any sort to fall into this category. If any cosplayers are specifically "steampunk" or their props then we will just put them in the center. :P
Oh gosh. I would love to take part in this! I'm a "maybe" at this time but I'll know once I get the time and materials to do so.

Ok! :D I'm also glad at the fact that there's two days of the gathering. I kind of don't want to run back to the hotel room and struggle to put on my Rinoa cosplay so I can be at the FF gathering on time. I'm definitely planning to attend Sunday's. XD
Yes! Steampunk gathering!! I was so happy when I found out the theme this year~
Either going to have a steampunk OC or a steampunk version of Maka Albarn for it c:
My Raichu cosplay might start looking steam punkish. Ive been having trouble designing it but this could give me a few more ideas that will have it take off :D
@ Alyxiane: I'm glad to hear that having it on two days helps cospeeps out :) Originally I was thinking of the ones that only come for one day and are new that it would provide at least one possible gathering for them to attend (pending they are theme of course *LOL )
@ Wolftale: Can't wait to see your Punk'd cosplay!
@ SweetNiar: There are soooo many cosplays out there that would look astounding Punk'd and I sure hope this gathering gets to see bunches of them! So go ahead... Punk it and then show it off here too! :)
I'm a new user, indeed, but have perused these forums many times looking for help and tips. I've seen a few billion requests for help regarding where to get or how to make goggles, dread-falls, masks, or even fake piercings(for those who take the "punk" more literally). I thought a thread gathering resources for all these topics would be more then prudent.
There are two ways to tackle the costume dilemma here: we can make it or buy it. With any of the items we want or need for an outfit, "make" or "buy" are the options(and make requires buying materials too X_X ). Remember that some of these items are found in the most unlikely places: using Gatorade bottle as goggle lenses seems like a logical step, but going to the lingerie store for a Victorian corset might not occur to you. Of all places in the world to look for little things, go to an Army Surplus Store! They have goggles, messenger bags, boots, gas masks! If you don't know where the one in your town is, find it. Every town has one. Of course, similar to this is the Thrift Store, which you should peruse too. A cute wind up clock could provide nitfy ear-rings and necklaces for three, so go dig through that stuff.
So let's look at goggles: they're unisex and pretty basic for a
steampunk outfit. Assuming you didn't find an awesome pair to buy (at the Army Surplus Store!)you can always make them. Remember that they don't HAVE to go over your eyes; you can use lenses that are made of anything if you don't have to see through them. Try these sites for construction ideas.

Alright, for some girls(and, I suppose, a few guys) hair extensions seem like a good idea: instantly more "steam punk" without having to have butt-long hair or a buzz cut. There are a variety of options, but I see a lot of people headed tword dread and dread-falls.

Again for either gender but predominantly for girls, we have the corset! A classic Victorian look: making your own will be quite hard, but buying them can be expensive. Here being an "adult" helps: the best bet is a lingerie store. I say buy local as you can generally try the corset on first to be sure it fits, but online will work too.

Now shoes are harder, of course, but the steampunk-ish look seems to be in. Just search places you might find cheap shoes to begin with: Rue21, Claires, Charlotte Russe, all good options. If you want to go online, there's a bunch of sites to try, but I like these:

@ThunderMuffn a lot of really good tips and links, thanks so much for posting them! :)
Also, just a couple things that are pretty typical for steam punk costumes are various types of hats (top hat, tricorn, ect.)/hair pieces and tool belts. What elements you add to a costume though depend entirely upon the character your portraying and what they do. If you plan to make your own OC steam punk character one of the first things you do before designing the character is pick a job for the character, the key to this is that after you know what their job requires you can think "ok, what would someone working as a ______ dress like?" after that you can start to form their personality which will give you some of the more personal touches for the clothing. Something to keep in mind when making steam punk costumes is that not everything has to be perfectly colored and in order, steam punk OCs (in my personal view) are most of the time people of the working class so they are far from daintily dressed. They also tend to be more styled realistically then anime cosplays, such as their hair doesn't usually defy gravity XD
Huuuuuge thing though, when buying a corset do not buy one if you've never tried one on before. There are different styles of corsets and you need to try the style on and find out what size you are before you order it online, once you know the size and style you want you can buy it anywhere you'd like. Good corsets tend to be a little pricey though so just giving a heads up that usually they're priced $100+, the cheapest I have seen that I considered good quality was last weekend with a friend who got hers for $75 at a costume shop. Another heads up to those that are willing to spend it, a well known corset shop is called Dark Garden but their price range is usually $300+. Stunning clothing if the price doesn't stun you first.
Besides shopping around online for steam punk clothes and accessories, there are a pretty good amount of steam punk shops in San Francisco on Haight Street. Another shop that I believe is on Valincia (pardon my spelling) is called Five and Diamond, it is an amazing steam punk shop that sells clothes and accessories from (I think) local steam punk artists. There's also a steam punk convention happening in Santa Clara called the Albion Expedition that always has a lot of great vendors, panels, and workshops. For anyone who really is wanting to go for authentic steam punk, I'd highly recommend attending :)
@ ThunderMuffn & Wolftale: First off I want to say thank you both for the links, tips, and advice for all those cosplayers out there who want to Punk their cosplays & ThunderMuffn I appreciate the link for the shoes cause I have been looking for a pair of Victorian lace-up boots for my Elegant Goth Loli. I found one pair I loved (@ $90) that were black velvet so shoe/boot links are always a plus in my book! XD

I will likely attend the gathering as an original creation of Victorian/Steampunk effects, but I'm not sure on the day <3
I'm sad that for as much as everyone is talking about steampunk and how much they'd like to do it, that no one has actually confirmed a steampunk cosplay for the gathering. I'd totally be there if I had more money/time for making one. I hope some people will be able to actually show up.
I'll be there with the rest of my group on Saturday :)))))))))))))<3
a bioshock cosplay fits in steampunk right?
I've seen some bioshock cosplayers and I thought at first they were steampunk! So I'd say Yes. I'll definitely be in my Heihachi cosplay on Saturday so will be at the Saturday gathering.
I just attended Nova Albion for the first time this year. So I already have a head start on the theme. I definitely will wear steampunk on Sunday and will try to come by the gathering.
Now I definietly need to finish the breather/gas mask I started...

But seriously, no, we need pics together. Baseball bats (both wood and aluminum) aren't allowed according to the weapons rules, but we'll have the Commissioner's Trophy instead. <3

Though the list has not been updated I want all the cospeeps that are interested in participating to know it will happen. With this being an Olympic year and sports being the theme I can only imagine what changes could happen to the cospeeps... I have visions of Naruto in Spedo's swimming the Ramen Noodle race... Of course you know those Prince of Tennis cospeeps will be in top form for the tennis matches and let's not forget the boxing matches for all those Street Fighter cospeeps! Ok, well I guess I need to put my imagination to bed and just wait and see what ideas the cosplayers have come up with...

Well, with craftmanship judging times figured out, among a few other things, at this point Darieum's Tatsuya will probably come out on Sunday instead of Saturday. I didn't get to putting together anything for Minami, sadly, so who knows, I'll probably just come and take photos of him :D

Now that we know when Masquerade is (Sunday), my husband is planning to bring Tatsuya from Touch, and if I can wing it together by then, I'll have Minami XD.

Hee~ I know he'll appreciate hearing that. :) I'm gonna be the sad slacker, but I have reasons I swear! *eyeballs Masquerade costume*
The new theme for 2013 is Gothic Fairytale! I see lots of great Lolita style twisted to fairytale format ( I 'm thinking of an Alice in Wonderland Lolita myself :P ) so get creative cospeeps!
I am looking for an assistant for this gathering for either day or both. Please post if you are interested!

Versailles cosplays would count as gothic fairytale, yes? ^^;; And by Versailles, I do mean the Visual Kei band.
will the Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland count?
If so ill be going as "um". hope that may work
@Angelx524: Yes, Versailles will count as long as it's a little closer to stark colors. B would like to avoid the super bright colors, seeing as the theme is "Gothic Fairytale"
@Pologirl: I don't see a problem with the Tim Burton version, so long as you're not going for some of the outrageously bright costumes.

Well, I'll be cosplaying Teru's black outfit from their song, "Philia":

yeah im trying to make it match as much as possible to the movie version
This is perfect for a cosplay I already have planned, the evil queen (Regina) from ABC's Once Upon a Time. Count me in for at least one gathering, not sure which day quite yet.
So I am trying to cosplay as Alice (from the game Alice: Madness Returns) but I can't decide which outfit I want to cosplay as or if I should have just 2 different ones.
There is one where she has the top hat and rabbit ears and the one where she is in the blue dress.
But does the costume idea in general fit the theme?
I really want to cosplay for this theme because I love fairies, but I don't know any gothic fairies to be D:
Would just a general gothic fairy be acceptable? Like a halloween costume. *_*
Still hoping I can go to one of the two. But it'll all depend on my schedule. ^^
I'll most likely be some form of Teru(whichever one I can get finished!)
I'm so sorry but my Alice "um" dress is going to have to be held off till 2014. Im really sorry I won't be able to attend this gathering. I hope to swing by for some photos though.
i'll see what i can get together ><
Updated the correct location on the 1st post. It will be G2 on both Saturday and Sunday @ 11 pm.
Now who is going to be showing off their Gothic Fairytale cosplays???? Looking for your posts!

It's at 11 am on Sat & Sun. Sorry about that... I have a malfunction in typing on a messed up keyboard and I forgot to correct it. :P
Yeah for Alice themed Gothic cosplay! Wish I was able to get mine together, but there is just to much to do and I want to take pictures this year so less cosplay for me.
Oh, I can't find it but I think you posted about taking photos in a private shoot? Was I misreading that? Is it too late to ask about a private shoot of my friends and myself?
Well, I'll be showing up to Sunday's gathering for a bit, since I have a panel during 11am on Saturday. ^^;;
Check out the first post and tell me what you think :)

So its just anyone cosplaying??? O.o thats a huge group photo!!! XD but it sounds like an epic idea!!! :D
Well now, this sounds quite interesting!! I almost thought it would be a beach-related gathering(I don't know, is the theme this year beach-related still? Since you said it might be celebration, though now I'm kinda confused)
Ah well, no matter what ends up happening, I'll definitely try and attend the gathering!!
I'm down for this gathering. I don't know what costume I'll be wearing, but you can count on me to help you out and keep the chaos (relatively) organized. ;D
Pure lovely and might be able to make this.
I love this <3
So is the theme this year beach theme? :o
i voted yes i think thats a great idea. im actually really excited for something like that!!!
So Saturday and Sunday at 11 am ~ G9 the "celebration" of ALL Cosplayers will happen. If you have a cosplay then put it on and come join us out front in G9!

Yay!!! Looking forward to it!!! 8D
I am really excited about this gathering! I mean how great is it that we (cosplayers) are the theme (ok well in my book I CHOOSE to CELEBRATE the Cosplayers!) for this gathering :)
I can't wait to see the WHOLE front of the convention center FILLED with Cosplayers in Cosplay! I have been attending Fanime for 10 years and I have cosplayed every year. This year is ALL about Cosplay in a big way for me so I am pulling out ALL the STOPS! Come join in the madness of cosplay, in your cosplay, Saturday or Sunday 11 am @ G9 and Celebrate the Awesomeness of us, THE COSPLAYERS!

So I updated the first post a bit and wanted to clarify that Fanime's theme this year is "CELEBRATE" and I choose to celebrate the cosplayers which is why this is the ALL COSPLAYER gathering. I hope to see G9 FULL of cosplayers @ 11 am on both Saturday and Sunday Celebrating US! :)
Saturday I will be in Quistis from FF* and Sunday I will be in Izumi Curtis from FMA.
