The #fanime IRC channel (http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,12849.0.html) setup our very own voice chat (http://bit.ly/comms)! Feel free to join up =D
It's actually fairly simple to use. But if you have problems, just go onto the IRC channel and someone will walk you through it.
And we do talk a little bit of everything : anime, cosplay, games, etc. And whatever's going on with our lives. I bake a lot so I'm always trying to get recipes from people. Ummm...so, if I ask you your favorite pie, that's why. ;)
thx for the set-up help.. now ihave to buy a mic....

*Goes and grabs Mic*
we had ten people on tonight! :D
If your not using ventrilo, your doing it wrong.
if you're going to get into the argument of which voice comms is better than the other, at least list reasons. Vent...is not free. They do not release their server to the public. Second, support on any OS other than windows is limited. Those two are pretty major reasons that are hard to find arguments against. I do not see the point of paying for voice comms when I have my own dedicated server, and lots of my friends use OS's besides windows.
Besides that, mumble is open-source, and is in very active and constant development, unlike teamspeak or vent. It's lower-latency, and the voice quality is better. Sorry, but it just is, and you can't say otherwise until you try it. Mumble also has support for other features like in-game overlays, positional audio support, and you can also theme the interface.
I could go on, but I'd like to hear what vent has over all of that first ^_^
