Ooh, I've not seen the Bus Gamer OVAs...didn't know those were out, actually...I'll have to go looking for them ^_^ I do have the pilot manga, though. Wish there could be more, I really liked Bus Gamer.
So from what I can tell, the big push for day/time slots is going to start getting into full swing here within the next month. Start thinking about when you guys want to do this. I know that a bunch of us will be doing the Trinity Blood, Bleach and Final Fantasy shoots, but if there are any conflicts, post those here with the times so we can see what we can do about making sure this is accessible for as many people as possible!
Also, keep in mind, that if at all possible, we're hoping to do a Saiyuki dinner, too (as Goku cheers).
Timing, timing ... for me, Friday's definitely the best of the bunch, since most of Saturday will be eaten up with Bleach (and then I think Masquerade in the eve, for those attending) and Sunday's a crazy busy day (though if I manage to get everything done, I'll have Saiyuki for the Black and White Ball -- mwahaha!). The potential problem I can see is if we've got folks with school, however, but hopefully it won't be.
Kimu and Ginryuu and I scoped out a few good photo opportunity spots at the winter San Jose gathering a few weeks back, on a random side tangent. Don't think anyone took pictures of them, but we'll remember. :D
Well, now that I've officially let the cat out of the bag at ALA: I'll be attending as Kanzeon Bosatsu. (Might bring Koumyou as well if D wants, but I'm definitely planning Kanzeon for the gathering.)
Someone has to keep an eye on all those antics, after all. ^_~ (And yes, I do indeed intend to be amused. *hearts*)

Still haven't decided what I'm going as...it will mostly depend on whether or not I get the Super Secret Cosplay TM done. GAH EPIC WIG ^^;;;;;; I'll get a better idea of it after I get my competition costume finished.
As far as timing goes...how do you guys feel about having the gathering start between 5:30p - 6:30p ish on Friday and then trek over for food afterwards? Let me know what you think, if this works for people. Not setting it in stone yet, but just trying to get ideas, so please let me know!

Sunset's around eight, apparently, during Fanime (that seems so late!), so even pushing that late should give us decent daylight to play with, though I lean more to the 5:30 side. But as I'll be in Thursday, it's all the same to me.

Okay - so went to submit out gathering for the official list and realized that we've not yet chosen a place for our gathering! Anyone have any suggestions? I've not been to fanime before, so I'll rely on what others who have been there suggest, but just from the list, I'd vote for the fountains or the park.

Also, we should start putting a list together of photo ops. Obviously, we'll have the full group shot, the Sanzo group, etc. But if anyone has any ideas of other photo ops or even artbook shots we want...speak up so we can make a list so everyone gets the pics they're hoping for.
Also, given how long my competition costume is taking, I highly doubt I'm getting the costume I was hoping to bring to the gathering done. As a result, I'm signing myself up officially as Ukoku. *smirks, plays with a chess piece*
What would a Saiyuki gathering be without the prop kit? Hehe, for those who weren't at the AX gathering...it contains a japanese newspaper, playing cards, a map, glasses for Sanzo (which are my actual glasses so if you use be careful) and some sort of spherical orange fruit. Feel free to use any or all of the items...as long as they are returned to me at the end.
Except for the fruit...we'll be eating those after the shoot. ^__^

Well...the gathering is at 5:30 in front of the Fountains on Friday...with poker at 5...so it looks like you should be able to make it. I'll put you down. ^_^
As far as the armor goes...I would craft it out of model magic (since it's super lightweight and has a good texture for bone) and use a wire support inside each one so that they're a little more sturdy. Don't make it one solid piece...you won't be able to move much...so a separate piece for each shoulder. Since it's lightweight you should be able to make it stay on with a few well placed snaps. Just...don't go banging it into stuff no matter what you make it out of. ^_^ At least...that's my opinion on the matter.

This may sound weird, if you can pull it off, make it out of styrofoam and duct tape, since you can paint directly onto duct tape. I'm going to be walking around in armor on Sunday made completely out of styrofoam :D

I was utterly stoked about the turnout we had. I was ecstatic! Saiyuki FTW :D
This was my first Saiyuki gathering to participate in with others, and it was a lot of fun. (My Hazel debut at ALA was just our little fun group, and Wasabi was informal stuff, too.)
It's also my first time to have people say "I hate you" and actually run away from me! Didn't really get that much at the other two cons. ;P
There were some really fun set ups for the various characters--I'll start wading through my 1300 pics from Fanime to start posting as soon as I can....
My only suggestion for improvement is to not use that exact spot for the shoot.
Too much clutter in the backgrounds of people, and when staring into the sun, all the pics are with eyes totally shut. (I'm not cosplaying Gin from Bleach so that doesn't work as well for me...teehee.)
I was thinking of going for a different spot next year too. Possibly that black box thing right inside the door...since we'd still be easy to find...but it's indoors so the light won't be as strong and it's in the corner to prevent all the people in the bg. If not possibly one of the side spots where we can hide in trees or shade.
Outside of a few possible pics sneaking into the album, mostly around Floofy Artbook Sanzo from D left to post...

Figured since it's now opening up and people are choosing we could look into timing for our gathering. If I remember correctly we're pretty much set on Friday...so what are the time preferences?
Ooo, times! How about 4 or 5? Since some people will still need to pick up badges, check into hotels and such. It only makes sense to have the gathering later.
My vote would be for early evening as well. I think we had our gathering 6ish last year and there was still some awesome light left. Do I recall that correctly Ginryuu?

If we're looking at late afternoon/early eve, I'd suggest if we can possibly take one side or the other rather than the fountains themselves it might work better -- that way the sun's coming from a side instead of people either facing to it or having it directly behind them.
That's about the only two cents I have. ;)

The location for TB by the Mariott side should work well. I'm fine with the time of 6pm, and getting food afterward.

Hmm well when we go could depend on how long the gathering goes for and if anybody want's to take care of anything before we go. I think it'd be best to discuss WHERE we want to go first...although I'm all for going back to the same place as last year.
I think waiting before submitting would work. That way if anybody has something to say they can say it. We have everything else set anyways.
It's Saiyuki! Chinese for dinner is a great idea, and that place isn't too far to go and is reasonably priced for the Gokus. Shouldn't put a big burden on Sanzo's gold card? ;D

RE: food. I'm good with the place we went to last year (that was the place that was on the same street as the Japanese place but a block-ish closer to con, right?) And if I recall right, they had vegetarian options for me (that would be my only veto).

My Lirin cosplay is done. I just need to finish my wig and run some make-up tests. I'm still working on two other cosplays though... This is the first year I've actually participated in the making of my cosplays. I'm really excited to just go and have fun. ^^

Also sorry for the lack of updates from me in general so far guys. Been crazy busy here finishing up the semester. Be back in a week and a half after I have conquered my 5 final projects!
Yeaaah, well I don't think getting a wig would be too hard (though they are hot in itchy! At Sac I just dyed my hair red and it was awesome) but I don't have his weapon yet either and without it I think it looks almost like street clothes. :C Next year I'll do it for sure!

Gojyo's hair as been seen in many lengths. There's the 'I thought Gonou was executed'-short. There's the just above shoulder with top half in pony-tail version too (I think...that was around when he met Banri if I'm not mistaken).
But yeah, whatever you're wearing, looks like we'll see ya there!
I totally forgot that Gojyo cut his hair short after Gonou...how did I forget this??? XD;
Also? I need clones. Then I could dress them all up in all of my Saiyuki costumes and I wouldn't have to choose which costume to do. XD (and then everyone really could say that I can be my own gathering *g*)

Well we are all set for this gathering and I double-checked we are solid on the official gathering list! I can't wait to see everyone and I'm sure we'll have a blast! So gathering submissions have opened up! That means that we need to nail down a day/time pretty soon. So far, Friday afternoon has worked pretty well for us in the past so I'm thinking we can stick with that. Sometime around 4 or 5 depending on how timing with other gatherings works out...thoughts?
Speaking as an Apothecary, I'm actually more partial to 3 or 2, but that's just me. As it is, I still need to get Yaone back into wearable shape, but she's on the back-burner until my major cosplays are done. TB and JK come first.
I might be able to swing 3 but 2 would probably be pushing it. I'm hosing another gathering in the morning and will need time afterward to put the vines on.
I'm gonna try, depending on if I have the time or not before Fanime, to get my Sanzo done.

Update for me: I don't not believe I will be able to make it this year T_T Too many RL things have popped up and then there's the issue of having to save up for a new car WHEE~! (yay for new car, boo for finances) Anyway, I will continue to maintain this thread and I will certainly try to make it if possible, but at this point, it's not looking good T_T (which is such a bummer because I will miss you all terribly!)

So life's managed to get even crazier around here but I've found time to get things in order. So here's what I've sent off as our submission request:

So it's like last year for me, only more planned this time; a scheduling conflict's arisen that precludes my making the gathering (and for-sure any after-gathering activities).
