I heard on the news that Walmart (evil incarnate) is going to open late on Thanksgiving night, and stay open until Midnight Friday to avoid the fiaco that happened at some stores last year.
the walmart thing has been announced [particpating stores only]
The Fiasco you speak of is a poor immigrant temp employee was trampled to death after a mob rushed into the store.
Sad. I wouldnt want to go that way.

Some people liken the opening of that accursed day to a zerg rush. Me? I find comparing it to a infected horde from Left 4 Dead to be much more apt.
Yeah, I work retail, including on Black Friday. In returns, I even get a front row seat to the madness that is the opening of the doors that morning. There's also talk every year of setting up a betting pool as to how many assaults we get in the store that day.
Man I would HATE to work at one of those stores during Black Friday. That would be the worst. Well, I'm not in that situation so I'll be shopping and probably be the cause of some headaches throughout the day. ;)
I'm about to be all over Union Square. I think most stores open at around 4-6am.
I've done my time in Retail Hell on Black Friday. I even worked the phones at Target on dark Black Friday during the Tickle Me Elmo craze. I still have nightmares. >:(
Now I'm lucky enough to be on the other side of the counter. I enjoy Black Friday, I love watching the crowds and getting the occasional good deal. You should see my binkder of scheduled store openings and ads with all of the deals I want to look for marked off.
To all working retail tomorrow, I wish you peace and a good day. To all shopping tomorrow, I wish you sanity, good deals and patience. To all staying home and avoiding the whole mes...well you're probably the smart ones, but you're going to miss all of the fun. :D
Doubt I'll buy anything. I have to pay $230 for my Fate-chan Alter PVC so there goes my money. Still gonna go check it out. Might be fun just window shopping.
Just came back from checking out my local Best Buy in Boston (1AM) and damn, I would guess around 150 people with tents, couches, beds, shopping carts etc. lined up. Some are waiting at Old Navy and Target as well. First time going to just check it out but I can't see myself waiting in Boston weather till 5AM..-_-; Guess some really want those LCD tv deals (even though LED owns LCD..>.>; )
Thinking of buying a PS3. I lost faith in Microsofts xbox 360, and ps3 has built in wi-fi, blu-Ray, and free Internet.
sorry for the re-post
this ties in with the Xmas items that i wanted:
Thanks to epic luck and personal ninja skills---
here's an update.
Brutal Legend - decided I didnt want it
Left4Dead 2 - got on Friday 1day sale at Fry's for $35
Marvel Ult Alliance 2 - got doorbuster 5AM at Target for $37 [for my best friend]
Need for Speed Shift - got cheaper alternative NFS: Underground for $10 at Walmart

Super Elite 250gig Xbox 360 - got doorbuster 5AM at Target for $349

All in All an epic Black Friday looting.
I was in and out of Target in 3 minutes. [my receipt shows 503AM after being let in at 5am on the dot]
Woot. :D
My Black Friday was stupid. Almost makes me not want to do it again.
I hit up Old Navy at 1am because they were going to open at 3am. The deal was, you spend $20 and you get a free copy of Lego Rock Band. I was like, 30th in line. After almost 2 hours of waiting they come out and start handing out wrist bands for the game. They handed out 14. 7 for Xbox and 7 for PS3. I was pissed. If they were only gonna have a couple, they should have said so. I thought they would have at least 30....or 15 for each system. Oh well.......
So I left and played Modern Warfare 2 on my PC for 2 hours.
After 5am I went to Best Buy. I got there about 5:15am (after their doors had opened.) The line, even after letting people in, was at least a football field in length. I got in line and an hour later I was in the doors! I picked up a 20" flat screen monitor, a Garmin GPS, and Smallville Season 8 and then I got into line. About 2+ hours later I was out the doors again!
I didn't feel like going anywhere else after that. I went home and played Modern Warfare 2 until about 12pm....and then I went into work for my half day. *joy*
I heard about the Old Navy scandal. lots of ppl were not very happy at all.
not all stores opened at 3am, despite hundreds [or maybe even thousands waited outside]
Seriously---
if your not literally the first 40ppl in the front of the line [ was exceptionally lucky to be that] for BOTH my ToyrUs & Target lines then consider yourself to be unlike to get anything doorbuster related. unless you random luck out and find a random item badly hidden between shelves or something.
Sorry to hear you had a cruddy time, but at least you got some gaming time in.
I have all these new games, but I kept napping between meals and movies [Boondock Saint one [not part 2]] and havent started playing any of my new epic games yet. :P

At least you got some sweet stuff at Best Buy. Pretty good way to spend BF, I'd say.
I went to Macys for a bit. That place was so packed. There was literally someone within 3 feet of you wherever you went. Craaazy.
A can of Dust-Off. :(
I'd like to thank :P Fry's for having three straight days of "One Day Only" sales on days I had to work.

actually, it was actually kinda smart on their part in my opinion, that way they didnt have to worry about all of their epic sales from 5am to 11am on ONE DAY ONLY.
if anything, you should "THANK" your job, for not letting you get the time off u wanted. [jokingly scarcastically, not in an offense way by the way]
and really, each day the most you could 'legally' work is 8 hours, so your say you had no time wat so ever to shop? in a 10am to 9pm time from? unless you somehow works 12+ hour shifts...
I totally call shenanigans on you sir. :P
Yeah, but I work from the mid afternoon to midnight (and worked overtime as well), pluss i had to deal with getting parking, traffic, and the fact that there was no Fry's on the way to work (closest one to me is in Industry, twelve miles the opposite directionof work).
And to be clear, you can work past eight hours if your employer wants you to. However, they have to pay you more for it (from eight to twelve hours, it's time-and-a-half; from 12 until 16(?) it's double-time) That's why most employers don't want workers putting in more than eight hours unless there is really good reason (like working Black Friday). Of course, the skeezy ones try to have you do it off the clock (which then puts it into illegal territory...WalMart got taken to court not that long ago for that kind of thing).

well, im sorry to hear that your work gave you so much over time.
I used to work in HR for over 5 years, so im familar with the policy and procedure...
that and i also know about several companies that try to be shady on a regular basis and thats not even considering the holidays.
unless your job pays well enough for the time used up, better luck next time? or maybe there will be other opportunities. :)
