after that-go to parking lot or wherever to take pictures with better location
after that-get on lightrail to go to greatmall for sushi! stalkers welcome!

Hooray! I've been haunting the boards in hope someone will be here for DRRR! I plan to go as Erika, and my friend intends to cosplay someone as well, but she's still working on it. :)

Odds are I'll end up going a Shizou. I'd really like to go as Kida but I just got wrapped into Fanime last week so no time to look for stuff.

I'm going to cosplay as Shizuo and my friend is going to be Izaya, but I will be able to cosplay as him on Monday because I have others the previous days.

Hello! I'm really glad to see others in DRRR cosplay! ;ww;
I'll be coming to Fanime as Celty, however I will be leaving the con Monday morning and won't be able to make it to the current meet time. ;A;
If that ends up being the final date/time, you'll still probably see me stalking around in my horrendously heat-stroke inducing outfit. Anndd of anyone else has a DRRR costume on outside of the meeting date, I would love to pose for a few pictures with some of you guys too! Eeee~

Well I would be there early on Friday and then I have another gathering at 3:30, we can have one early on Friday but I know Friday is the day people want to get settled in. I would suggest maybe doing the gathering on Monday in the morning. Sunday morning is the only my only opening b/c I have a photoshoot with a different cosplay at 2pm and another gathering at 4pm, then there is the concert which I don't know when. But I would really prefer Monday b/c I really didn't want to change into too many costumes in one day. If not then I'll probably have to miss the gathering.
alright, we'll go with majority rule, people please vote on the day you'd prefer, monday or some other day? i'd perfer it to be saturday, since i wont be here early friday and have another gathering on sunday.
I agree with DrMarukyuu completely on time ;A; I won't be here early Friday, and I also have a gathering to be at on Sunday. (Eeek, Hetalia! My biggie gathering of this con, guhh.)
Sometime Saturday would definitely be my best bet!
Most of the gatherings are on Saturday, that day has the most people. Anywho I have 2 gatherings that day and then there is the masqurade, I'm booked. :'(

The only thing I could find closest to a plain yellow anything was a neckerchief, so I just went with that instead of the scarf.
The scarves that I found were all flimsy and fringy and blech.
I thought that I, as Kida, deserved better.

As for wandering around ghetto places... not too ghetto that we might get shot or mugged, k? We could wander around the exterior of the con center itself; I know there are some hidden places that other cosplayers have used. I just haven't seen those places myself yet. Other options; parking garages (inside/top) and the sjsu campus (I know some sketchy looking places there... one would be perfect for Shinra posing like it is the entrance to his office.) But meeting up at con first would be ideal; less chance of losing people.

@Yumiko: Well, I was thinking it could be under the helmet and you could take the helmet off in the restaurant. But then we'd run the risk of it slipping off with the helmet and you getting too hot. So make believe is fine. (Someone could probably photoshop things later. XP )

Oh and I think we got off the topic of which Sushi restaurant; either that or I missed something. Maybe Sushi Maru in the San Jose Japantown. It isn't too far and it still is good sushi. We could either take the lightrail to Japantown or walk the distance. But if anyone knows someplace that has tables rather than booths, that may be better. (picture wise)
Really cheap would be getting all you can eat sushi at Sushi Factory in south San Jose. But that one is too far away and you can't share sushi.
And wherever we go, we might have to find out if we need to call ahead. We will likely be a large group.
[Edit: If we end up with skilled photographers, it would be cool if we can some spiffy effects. Like slow motion blur. Since we have so many Erikas, I have an idea for the Erika + Walker pic. And slow motion blurs would also work wonders for the Izayas & Shizuos. I know how to do it but I won't have access to a camera that could do those things.]

hmm, if we were going to prioritize closeness to the convention center, theres a couple places; smile sushi, tengu sushi, and fuji sushi. they probably arent genuine japanese like sushi maru but its probably good enough for lunch and photos.

Not only that but silly me forgot that the gathering is on a Monday; which also happens to be the day in the week that most businesses in Japantown are closed. (Or was that a tuesday?) I forget if the restaurants are also closed or not...
As for restaurants being closed due to Memorial Day; that isn't really an issue for most. I've ate out with friends on Memorial Day during past cons.
But as for Tengu Sushi, their sushi isn't always very good. Just wanted to mention that. But I have a feeling we might end up sacrificing quality in order to get us all in.
Well if you guys need help on anything around downtown, I can help since I live just a couple of blocks away from Fanime and so I pretty much know the place~ So I can check it out to see if they closed or not. I recommend not going to Tengu though. It sucks so badly in my opinion. Cali roll is soggy and some of the sushi there doesn't like to be stuck together. Service are horrible. Though price are very cheap @_@ J town in San jose there is pretty boring to me considering its only 3 blocks full of Korean, Mexican, and one or two actually Japanese restaurant. Some may be open still for memorial day. Though walking from con to J town is actually pretty far.

if we make the call, we might not want to specify the number of people if we are taking non-cosplayers such as photographers, and give a number like "around 20".

Eeee anyone have any vague ideas as to how long we'll be around the con before we leave? I just tried hanging around in my Celty costume for a while, and it's... really not so great for walking long distances... or sitting lmao.
If I could have maybe a couple of minutes to rush off to a bathroom and throw on some pink pajamas (yaayyy alternate outfit) that would be great! Also, if anyone has anywhere like a car or hotel room I could set my scythe, I think the restaurant owners would appreciate that!

Taking the lightrail isn't that bad. You can get to J town in about 10 minutes. I might show up for the meet as Shinra. But don't put me down, I'm not sure yet...
I do have a car but I won't be parked downtown (too expensive.) And there is no way I can fit everyone; perhaps 3-4 people besides myself. I'd rather not have to.
It would be better to go someplace that everyone can get to by either foot or lightrail.
Hey, we could lightrail to one of the malls that have sushi restaurants. Such as the Great Mall or Oakridge.
im liking the lightrail idea. that really increases our options!
also the nice thing about durarara cosplay is that noones dressed all that wierd, so we wont feel that bad about public transportation xD

I agree, we should do something closer to the con. I'm sure there are places closer, we just have to look.
Yeah, Great mall is pretty far (in time) but Oakridge would be closer... 15min. But it would be ideal to find something near con; people wouldn't have to fork down money for lightrail that way.

They're only about 10 minute's walk from the convention center. :]
There's also Saigon Sushi which is about 20 minutes away.

Rokko is kind of pricey though and there's a minimum you have to order up to. Its good but not for those who are tight on their budget. Small bowl of salad is about five bucks and I mean small >_<
AAhh, so I was right around the convention center this last weekend, and between the con and the 180 bus stop I know I passed at least 3 sushi places. My friend actually used to go to school a few blocks or so away from the con. I will call her up this evening and ask for her opinions on places :>

I snapped a photo of my costume late last night after I finished. (excuse the funky reverse effect from the mirror and weird coloring from poor lighting)
Thankfully the sleeves and pant legs are not skin tight and the material is more matte than shiny.

I'll definitely return! Either as Celty with improvements (I learned a lot from this being my first prop / helmet / whatever thing) or another character who hasn't shown up in the anime yet... Hint: Shizuo related and wears a motorcycle suit.

Same here. It was like... I was happy because it ended beautifully and wrapped pretty much everything up, but at the same time it was the end.
So lots of mixed emotions on FMA.
And I know! Kida's totally blank and slightly crazy, Mikado's depressed, Anri's depressed, and Shizuo might be dead.
It's just all bad.
Oh, and was it Kida who ordered them to shoot Shizuo?

They say that it's very likely that there's going to be a second season, since the DVD sales were very good in Japan and there's a ton of material to work on since the first season only covered 3 out of 7 of the light novels.

I think it would be wise to redo the thread and alert BSaphire of the change, since the organizer is MIA. That way we can start fresh. Anyway, looks like if all goes as planned, I will be doing Celty and having a couple friends as Izaya and Anri.
