Post by: Barnes on May 17, 2010, 06:47:02 PM
I just learned about Dio's death this morning.  :'( He lost his battle with stomach cancer.

*throws metal/Devil horns in his honor*

Like two days ago it went around that this was a hoax. But it turns out that his royal metalness was truly needed in valhalla. Indeed he was the originator of the devil horns.(and not gene simmons as the bastard would try to have you believe) Farewell my friend. You were awesomeness to the end. We will miss you.

Well the first report was a hoax. Apparently the night before someone said that he had died and it was quickly shot down as a hoax, but the following morning he did actually die. A sad day for metal indeed.

That's his website, you can probably get a lot out of that.  RJD had a lot of epic things that he contributed to heavy metal over the years.  One of the first songs that comes to mind for me is "Rainbow in the Dark", so that might give you something to seek out on iTunes/Zune/whatever.

Interesting little personal tidbit: I saw Dio with a friend of mine years ago when I lived in Washington. Said friend was having a rough time of it because he had health issues that caused him to lose his leg. He needed to have his prosthetic refitted because it was getting painful for him, so in the interim, he was on crutches with one leg.  But he was a BIG Dio fan, so he roughed it out.

A few years later, that friend passed away. Now that Dio is gone as well, I have a strong feeling that my friend was one of the first ones to throw up the horns and buy Dio a beer when he arrived through the gates to the next world :)

/end metal chick talk :)

I like to think that Dio died while he was riding a Tiger over a flaming shark tank. With"Holy Diver" or "Heaven And Hell" playing in the background. Either way though I miss him :(
