Title: Cosplay you saw at 2010 you weren't expecting & were happy to see
Post by: AR-99 on June 02, 2010, 09:21:14 PM
I am somewhat behind with a lot of the more recent anime (e.g. Vocaloid [doh, not an anime], Hetalia) since I was more on top of the scene when I was younger, so I was pleasantly surprised to see some folks who were also into some old skool titles come out and represent:

-Gally from Battle Angel/GUNNM (my favorite manga)
-Iria from Iria: Zeiram the Animation
-Belldandy from Oh My Goddess (same person did Iria the previous day)
-Captain Harlock and La Mime (and Emeraldas at the Masquerade)
-Miyuki from You're Under Arrest
-All the Ranma ½ cosplayers (was my ATF series at one point)
-1 person I found who was Battle Royale
-Kuja from FF IX (didn't really see anyone else doing FF IX)
-the Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro (very creative!)
-Lady Eboshi from Princess Mononoke (finally someone from the movie other than San and Ashitaka)

BTW Vocaloid isn't an anime :P

I only got one off the top of my mind:

Dokuro chan and the other angel from Bokusatsu Tenshin!

the deku and poe shop guy from legend of zelda, also skullkid w/out the majora mask. there were also many other great zelda cosplays but those were 3 i had never seen done before and they were not rush jobs either.

the super yoai brothers also gave me a good giggle as the unique take on the outfits caught me off gaurd.

Did the Miyuki you saw happen to be a man? I know thats a weird question, but my friend Alan did Miyuki, so I'm wondering if it's him you saw.

Speaking of Zelda, I saw an awesome Makar cosplayer.

Husky from +Anima.
Catwoman from... well, Catwoman.
Rosiel from Angel Sanctuary in his Heaven uniform.
Beast from Kuroshitsuji.

Obscure cosplays make me incredibly happy~ <3

I stalked the Ryoko into Jack in the Box cuz I had seen her walk by (and had quite the fangirl moment because she's like the favorite character in my book)... I knew I wasn't gonna run into her again (and I didn't) so yeah @___@

The Princess Tutu group I ran into in the elevator made my day. I fanboyed all over them. The person cosplaying as Edel even had a working music box.

That's too bad! I ran into her in the Dealer's Room and talked to her for a little bit. She was really nice. :D

Other cosplays that made my day:
- Cody Hackins *______* He was great!
- Morgan Fey, mostly because of the crazy wig. <3
- All the little kids cosplayers! They were super adorable. :D

-Mojo Jojo from powerpuff girls
-Vulcan 300 from Zatch Bell (enjoyed this the most)
-That catbus thing

Saw these and went "what the heck... I know I should've expected some 'unique' things at fanime but seriously...? this is so cool O.O"

That was probably him then. Guy with long hair and glasses? Good thing I saw the Bokuto Police Station shoulder patch, that was the tipoff.

Besides what was already said

Love love loved - POPE MARIO!

He came over and "prayed" with us.

Also I thought the Chinese Dragon style Gyrrados was pretty sweet.

-Captain Harlock and La Mime (and Emeraldas at the Masquerade)

Hee...that was us!  My hubby was Harlock and I was both Miime and Emeraldas. Glad you were happy to see the costumes..there's not always enough love for old skool ;)

Interestingly enough... I learned over the course of my watching of all the series that La Mime and Miime (or Mimay) are similar but...not quite alike. La Mime in Harlock SSX and My Youth in Arcadia has a black bodysuit, blonde hair and human-toned skin. Miime (no La before her name) in the Harlock main series is as you saw her on Sunday :)  They both have the flat eyes and no mouth, however!

My personal favorite unexpected costume of the weekend: the Potter Puppet Pals. I squeed when I saw them. I fully, and proudly, admit it!  "bother bother bother bother bother.."

I saw a Noodle and 2D from Gorillaz, and I almost died of happiness. But I was too shy (AKA fangirly, and didn't want to scare her off) to say much to the Noodle, and barely said anything to the 2D, because of shyness xD which is odd, because I have a very outgoing personality.

Easy.  Hidari Shotaro from Kamen Rider W.  I took a picture with one Shotaro cosplayer and saw a picture of a female Shotaro along with a female Philip there.

Finding tokusatsu cosplays is a rarity in anime conventions IMO, so that was an awesome surprise.

I saw you guys at the Cherry Blossom Festival and thought I might see you again! There were several people from the NCCBF at Fanime. I'm glad to see that both of you are getting recognized for your efforts.  ;D

BTW, one of the staffers who was working the signings was mentioning that he was dressed up as Harlock when the staff had their own signing session with FLOW. The band signed his belt and blaster! How cool was that! And it could have been your husband! Those guys for sure are into the old skool, 2 of the 5 of them remarked on my Fist of the North Star shirt that I wore to their signing on Saturday.

I would say the Dr. Who was a pleasant surprise (my very last picture from Fanime was with him :P ). The Sailor Moon cosplayers are always awesome....but this year was a bit of nostalgia for me. Tenchi Muyo, Sailor Moon, and Duo and Heero from Gundam Wing cosplayers.

The MapleStory "cosplayer". Well not cosplay so much as a sign that said "MESOS PL0X @@@@@". Brought back memories of doing silly crap in MS.

Hugo and Poison. From what I heard the Poison was a guy, which fits perfectly with the SNES Final Fight localization fiasco.

Sweet Shining Shooting Star, courtesy of several friends. Finally, DJMAX cosplay!

I agree! A friend and I did a double take in the dealers' hall and all he had to do was nod slightly to acknowledge the sign and we both laughed.

I was always happy to see Russel from UP around - he was just so adorable. I didn't notice some of the details at first, but after a few encounters, I noticed the house attached to the balloons and it was so charming! You did a wonderful job, Jerry! Thank you for all of the smiles.
