There must be something you don't like about the convention, but what is the most irritating thing that you really don't like this year at FanimeCon 2010?
Haha, this isn't specific to fanime, but the fact that I spent four hours at that lolita event at the fairmont. Never ever again.
I went with the protesters. All the others I kind of half-expect at any con, but the protesters are a nuisance that I've yet to get used to.
PCD and spending lots of money are tied.
The protesters you learnto tolerate lol
But none of those things above are FanimeCon's fault, per se, but it sucks to have to deal with the depression and the empty wallet...
I had a number of disliked things. One was the fact that I had no money to buy anything, either at swap meet or dealer's room. Another was the slow elevators, then leaving the con...
post con depression for sure.... And attendees lack of polite-ness I was the nicest staffer I could be but not all of them were polite back.....;_;
Post-con depression! I had so much fun this year ;______;
My ordeal with the Fairmont. ;o; Not Fanime's fault, but still...
Other than that, the cost, the PCD, the not seeing some of my friends/not seeing them for very long, etc. The usual stuff.
Oh! And my left eye going crazy on me so I couldn't wear false eyelashes Saturday or Sunday and could hardly even wear the mildest eyeliner I've ever used on Saturday, especially when I was cosplaying a character that pretty much requires huge eyelashes and such on Saturday and had a specific pair of falsies I had bought just for the dress I wore Sunday. ;o; I have a feeling that my eyes aren't defined enough in all the pics taken of my on Saturday.
Not having multiple FLOW and LM.C autograph sessions.
Dealing with some real-life problems while at the convention (which all was settled in time to still have fun).
Waiting on the elevators at the Marriott.
i disliked that they banned hug lines....
-Losing my camera's battery charger and not getting to take more pictures on Sunday and Monday
-Losing my wallet again as I was at the train station and having to replace everything again
-Forgetting my medication
-Purchasing a DVD only to lose it
I understand that the Vols. are doing their job but they denied a crippled person access through an exit and s/he was on crutches. I understand the traffic flow of people but at least let those who are handicap in through convenient points.
Items at the swap meet felt really over priced this year... but that was just me. The only other thing I disliked wasn't directly fanime's fault, and that was not being able to stay in a hotel room this year.
- Disorganized gatherings list (I missed the When They Cry gathering as a result)
- Console Gaming; as mentioned here (http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,14466.msg385185.html#msg385185), there was so much fighting game action going on that those who don't play those kind of games were left with maybe 3 TVs with not-as-competitive games and Ikaruga)
- Confusing directions to the info desks. I didn't know that the one next to the gaming room, for instance, was only temporary; a sign indicating to go to the Stage Zero desk, for instance, would've been nice.
- Protesters, though that is beyond congoers' or staff's control.
- Lack of Dealer's Room booths that sold games.
- Whoever abused the stick for DeathSmiles at the Aksys booth. As someone who abhors the stock 360 controller, that meant no DeathSmiles at all for me from Sunday onwards.
- My roommate trying to troll me by attempting to spoil Persona 4.
- Miscalibrated DJMAX Technika touch screen. I got 35 misses on a song that I should be able to full-combo.
- PCD; after this I won't be attending any major cons until Fanime next year. AX is no-go due to having gone to Sakura-Con this year, Sakura-Con next year as well as it's well outside of my univ's spring break, and Yaoi-Con is less of a "big" con and more of a specialized one.

Same here. :/ People didn't seem as willing to haggle, either.
Then again, I went for some items that would be just as or more expensive online (Legend of Mana for $50, for example), but I seem to expect the swap meet to have cheaper prices than you would find online because people are looking for and expecting a deal on old junk being cleared out... but maybe that's just me.
The dealer's room also seemed more expensive this year. Last year, I got a pretty good sized My Melody plush for $9 (half off of $18), but this year, similar sized or smaller plushes were going for $25 or $30. :/
A miku plushy went for $90, most of it was fanboy tax. There were a couple items that went past 1k there this year.
Yeah Swap meet was getting up there in price. Lots of pins and whatnot selling for exact price in dealer's room-although I'm not sure if they had anything Hetalia in the dealer's room since I never made it there for more than a Ramune T^T
Hug lines and people all coming up asking for hugs make me paranoid at night-makes me not like being in the Hilton, which I find pretty nice at any other time. The dancing on the sides also makes it harder to get through, but thankfully wasn't going on as often during the more crowded hours.
Mostly I think I'm bugged by this PCD-I have nothing fun to do for months now! T^T

Really? :O That's pretty crazy! I guess that swap meet prices aren't really regulated by anything, so people can charge whatever they want.
I never saw any hug or dance lines this year. :/ The hug line in '09 was pretty bad, and I'm really glad that it was gone, but people keep referencing them this year, and I never saw any. I also didn't get too many hug requests (except from my friends and from this really nice girl who was really excited to see me dressed as Ulala, since Space Channel 5 is her favourite game), but I typically turn them down anyway.
me losing 20$ and having to pay off my friends with the less money i had just because i "owe" them im not rooming with them next year
Someone mentioned the Lolita event on this thread. Was the Lolita event ever part of Fanime or was it separate from Fanime? I never saw it listed in the program. I only found out about it while I was exploring the Fairmont during the ball.

It was a completely separate event under oneesan inc. They had a fashion show, a tea party, a lolita pageant, lunch, and a concert. It sounds really great when I type it all out, but it didn't happen that way at all.
I actually had a pretty good time this year, but I always do. I loved Con's solution to the protesters, i.e. park a big truck in front of them. Brilliant and hilarious.
A few dislikes:
1. Housing- I was told on three separate occasions that there was no Fanime room block for the Marriott: once by the hotel and twice by Fanime Housing. Except that there was. So communication seemed to be an issue.
Dislikes that were not Fanime's fault:
1. Rock throwing on Sat.- I don't know who did it, but really? You're five years old and feel the need to throw rocks at people who disagree with you? Grow the fsck up.
2. FaniPlague- Again, I don't know who it was, but someone or several someones attended Con sick. You'd think with all the Swine Flu paranoia that people would be a little more responsible before placing themselves in a position to infect others, regardless of intention. I realize that you invested a lot of money into Fanime and it would suck to lose it, but if you're sick, stay home next time! Please.
I'm actually really glad that I didn't spend the money on a Fantasies ticket because I heard that it was pretty bad and didn't live up to the expectations at all. It sounded only semi-worth it when they were describing it, and I doubt I would have found it worth it at all if I actually went. :< (Though it would have been nice to actually hang out with some of the girls besides my friends and the girls at the fashion show, but whatever~)
I went with "other." The thing that really gets to me is the people drunk off their asses or on miscellaneous substances. This was the first year that I actually came across teenagers loudly discussing how they wished they could acquire various substances to have a good time. I am not going to say how nobody should be doing drugs/alcohol because that's going to be impossible. The way I figure, you can do whatever you want on your own time but I sorta draw the line at an event that seems to be the more "family oriented" out of all the cons I've been to so far.
ditto that I forgot about all the drunks that found there way around the convention center
Probably some of the staff/rovers who took their jobs way too seriously.

Who are you talking about? Because I know Staff is not supposed to drink on duty at all. It has severe punishments......
Just a couple examples I guess since I don't want to get stuck in a huge argument over it. It's just plain silly that I'm stopped by two overly serious people at once from entering the game room at 3:30 AM because my badge isn't facing the right way. Would people actually go to the trouble of going to some random Con at 3:30 in the morning? And even if they did I can't help but think, "So what?" The one-way entering and exiting persisting until way late in the night when there's no traffic at all was real unnecessary too. It just felt like a few staff members were ready to jump all over me for stuff that wasn't a big deal at all.

sounds like volunteers .... they did a lot of badge checks at doors.... :/
I know as a Rover I tried to be as nice as possible and I had people hugging me telling me I was an awesome staffer :3
I disliked that thanks to my own hangups and issues, I couldn't summon the gumption to talk to many people or focus on activities to participate in, so I spent most of the con lonely, bored, and depressed.
...The restrictions on entering/exiting the gaming room late into the night were also kind of weird, especially since no such restrictions were put on the Artist's Alley at any point that I could see.
I strongly disliked the lack of organization on certain planned events, such as the 16+ Yaoi night, which many were turned away from, as it turned to 18+ at the door. Besides that and other minor things that weren't so much the fault of Fanime, I think the con went great overall.

I didn't. I joked with people before they entered and got most of them to laugh. As long as they had a badge I let em through wherever. I don't give a crap if they are only allowed in one way, artist alley didn't care why should it differ? I'm not directing it towards you or anyone, I'm just saying that it's a double standard.

I'm curious where this was ever listed as a 16+ event. I've always seen it listed as 18+ along with all the legal codes listed next to it, as it is illegal to show pornographic material (even in anime form) to individuals under the age of 18.
Too many events happening in one day, so it's kind of sad that you can't attend them all. Minor thing for me though.
There was a bit of trouble with hotel check-in at the Hilton. At first the clerk gave me only two keys, when I reserved a room for four. Once that was fixed, Ruth, one of the roommates who had arrived earlier, went up to our room first to drop off her stuff, since she had rover duty. Right when I got the keys and my other friends dumped the rest of their stuff on the trolley, Ruth comes down the elevator and said the room was already OCCUPIED. It was just me either, the people in the line for check-in before me had the same problem. As well as the people in the elevator with us.
Another problem was the misinformation given when it came to LM.C's autograph session. Having no photos was confirmed, but there were also rules stating we couldn't touch the band, all gifts were to be dropped off in a bin and not personally given, and LM.C can sign anything presented so long it is not your own skin. Turns out, touching the band was okay(including hugging), gifts can be personally given, but they can only sign their own merchandise. And they mentioned all of this to us at the last minute. The first two I can forgive, and I already bought a poster for them to sign, however, the ones who didn't have merchandise for signing weren't so happy.
Those are just my two cents, but I was pretty satisfied with the con so far. And yes, I too am suffering from post con depression.
Elevator hell. And the lack of consideration involved in elevator hell. I completely understand that people had to get on at the second floor and ride down to go up sometimes, but seriously, people: some of us have cosplays we CAN'T do that in, for various reasons; some people have other problems that preclude use of stairs. A little consideration would go a long way, in terms of occasionally letting people go on when they've been at the ground floor at length and such.
Also, elevator crowding. Some of us can't -- I spent a sizable chunk of Sunday in an almost-entirely white cosplay with a sizable hoop skirt, and getting smashed in elevators had me terrified that it would wind up dirty (and it's not particularly washable). I've had friends with props and footwear damaged because people don't listen when told "no, really we can't fit another person".
In general I loathe that what feels like a sizable chunk of attendees take con as an excuse to suspend common decency and manners -- and maybe that makes me sound like a cranky old bitch, but me and mine had enough bad experiences with the elevators in particular that make me want to rip into people that it's really becoming a sore point. (And I know there are people at con who are lovely and considerate, like those who cleared the stairwell for my hoops when I had to come down there because the elevators were a no-go, but those tend to be regrettably forgotten in the face of frustrations.)
... at least no one yelled at me to take the stairs in something I obviously couldn't this year?

Money is totally not a problem with me when it comes to Fanime, especially since I actually don't buy much at conventions due to the fact I can usually get better bargains. This year, I only bought a doujinshi from Jo Chen.
I almost bartered with the people selling Japanese snacks since most of their products were overpriced. Which reminds me, too, it's actually rare for me to buy at conventions since sometimes a couple of the sellers try to sell things for twice the price. Usually, I check online or head to Jtown to do a mini price check. That way, I'm prepared so I don't get ripped off/need to barter.
Artist Alley wasn't really worth it this year. Just same old buttons, PLUS disappointing art quality. Just wondering, do the staff do a background or art check about who gets a spot? I'm sorry if it's offensive, but honestly, I remember seeing some low quality art.
Hearing about the L.M.C. thing was ridiculous. Even though I was the one screaming "Who's L.M.C.?", seriously...I think a warning for many people in line would've been best.
Stairs should stay open, unless it's part of the fire hazard safety rule.
Also Yaoi Bingo was absolutely NOT 16+! My program clearly stated it, I remember because I had to show the program to someone who got tricked into going.
i dislike the down grade of the art in recent years on the badges i mean cool that we have our characters but not alot of people agree with that style of art. i mean we had mainstream art in random points that made it awsome and worth tring to get pre order for fanime. but as of late its not that great. as well as the line this year for the thursday i though it was always the preorder that gets it and those who are purchasing got it friday. oh well this is a lill rantting i have but over all this year was great.
I would like to point out that there is a feedback thread (http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,14425.0.html) for things that you had problems with (as well as stuff that rocked). So please, if you have an issue, be sure it gets posted there (as well as, or instead of here)
As far as the "too serious at the doors" things, it's an issue that's been mentioned several times this year, and it will likely be fixed for next year (at least partially).
Best way to avoid elevator hellishness (for those of you who are interested) is to stay in one of the hotels that aren't attached to SJCC-- the Saint Claire, for example, had very well behaved and not-very-crowded elevators.

Allow me to turn this around on you.
It is you who is inconsiderate for wearing a costume that is so absurdly large that it prevents people from taking the elevators. It is incredibly rude of you to force people to cater to you because you decided to wear something that people have to go out of their way not to damage, when all they want to do is take the elevator. It's INCREDIBLY annoying, that people have to wait because of you.
How it works is, if you want to do something like wear a huge costume, you should be the one that takes others' consideration into action, and OPT to take the elevator, so that you don't force people to wait. If damaging your costume is an issue, you shouldn't be yelling at other people because they shouldn't try to efficiently get into an elevator, you should take the stairs where it's much more clear and you have less to worry about it.
All this sounds like to me is, you want people to cater to you, because you have a big beautiful costume that others should respect.
If people are going out of their way to be mean to you, or to destroy your costume, or to cause problems, that's one thing... but demanding respect from others just because what you are wearing is large, that's another. If you don't want your costume damaged, then you should go out of your way to protect it, and not blame others for taking the elevator that they have every right to get onto.

There was a debate on it there, though that's no official record. I was linked to it at one point before the con, but have lost it since then. It was my understanding that this was to be a shonen-ai night, with simply soft-core stuff. At the door, there was an argument over the age limit, as three of the administers (Don't know what else to call them, sorry) had agreed that it was 16+, while one disagreed, and the ruling went his way.
Quote from: PyronIkari on June 08, 2010, 01:11:19 PMAll this sounds like to me is, you want people to cater to you, because you have a big beautiful costume that others should respect.
Not quite. The costume did squish; I wound up cramming myself into a back corner and adjusting the skirts to fit, and the friends I was with bracketed me. I tried to be considerate because I know how problematic the elevators can be, and as noted, I
did take the stairs in it. I don't expect to be catered to, but I also don't expect to have to wait a half-hour at non-peak times to take an elevator because the majority of people people waited five minutes one floor up to get on and trump those waiting at the bottom floor.
What I particularly have a problem with is that there's fitting a reasonable number of people in, and then there's cramming entirely too close into people's personal space. Costumes notwithstanding, people who force their way into elevators that are already reasonably full
when they are told there's no more space are what really irk me. I've waited for a later one -- out of costume, in costume, whatever -- because it was fairly full and people said "no more room"; I've also fit myself on when people
did say there was space. The costume was the straw breaking this metaphorical camel's back; it wasn't the reason itself.
I guess my irritation is more with the general elevator squish mentality. As I said -- it's not just me and my costume; I've known others, friends and strangers both, who've had similar problems. There are people who, for whatever reason,
can't go up one floor -- difficulties with stairs, for example -- who are in a similar boat for different reasons. I realise this whole situation's not something likely to change, and I consequently deal with it, but that still means I'm going to gripe. I'd heard people say the Marriott's elevators were worse than the other hotels, but didn't realise just how much worse. (Seriously contemplating the Fairmont next year. The space was lovely.)
/soapbox indeed.
The sheer volume of stuff that had absolutely nothing to do with anime whatsoever.
There were a few things I disliked about Fanime, but nothing major.
The biggest problem was the elevators in the Marriot. My friend's in a wheelchair, so we had to wait ages for one empty enough to jump into. Some people were really rude about it to, like when we had been waiting longer that they had, and there was room but they jumped in anyway!
My friend got so irritated he shouted at some people which was kinda embarrassing. >_> Hopefully next year he'll learn to keep his cool.
Second was the evening me and my friend decided to go to the gaming hall one evening (I think it was Saturday?), we got into an elevator and some random guy put his arm around me, commented on my costume. This wasn't the problem, except the fact you could smell the alcohol on his breath and we were crammed in the elevator with him all the way down.
Then as we were walking to the gaming hall, I was dressed up as Cats inspired Mr.Cat/Neko Sensei from Princess Tutu, someone yelled out "FURRY!" to me as we passed them. I guess it wasn't that bad, but it did make me feel really self conscious.
So nothing too bad, but the elevator situation could have been so much better.

There are people who, for whatever reason, can't go up one floor -- difficulties with stairs, for example -- who are in a similar boat for different reasons.
And why should the rest of people follow your standards for elevators? Just because you say there's no room doesn't mean they can't fit. What I'm trying to say is...
Who the hell are you to tell people that they should follow your elevator etiquette? I'm not going to wait another 15 minutes for an elevator when one opens up and I can fit in it, even if it's a little tight, as long as we're not crammed into the thing to where we can't move bodies pushed up against each other. Why? Because I'm a busy person, and I have work to do. I staff, and I have things to do. If I'm 15 minutes late, major things can happen.
"Blah blah why don't... YOU take the stairs?"
If it's viable, then I will. I've ran 16 flights of stairs holding about 20lbs of stuff before because I needed to get it somewhere.
As long as the people on the elevator aren't rude, jumping, causing problems, you really have no right to tell them not to get on the elevator if they will fit and it does not go over the weight capacity.
HOWEVER, to the sir talking about the wheel chair. Wheel chair/handicapped access on an elevator takes priority. You can literally get hotel staff to tell people not to get on the elevator until after the wheel char/handicapped individual gets on. It shouldn't have to come to this, and people suck, but it is an option for you.
The elevators are public access etiquette is required, but demands are not cool. Etiquette is stuff like, not jumping, not harassing people, not being a nuisance, but telling people not to get on because of your costume, or that people can fit but you would rather ride more comfortably... is extremely stuck up and annoying.

Oh, we didn't know about that but thank you very much! This will defiantly be a big help for next year, not that we'd take advantage of that. It was just annoying when we were waiting longer and people jumped on before us when there was room for us to get on. But like you said, people suck.
But there were also a lot of understanding people as well that would make sure my friend got on, one woman took total charge and made it a mission to get him on first! So to everyone that gave us a hand to getting him on, thank you very much. ^^

So nothing too bad, but the elevator situation could have been so much better.
that was horribly rude of them to do that to your friend! where the hell are their manners! when I waited for my elevator last year I always made sure I was one of the last people on, I let everyone go ahead of me! Geez someone needs to take some manners lessons. As for your drunken experience, I feel very sorry for you and hope it never happens to you again.

Artist Alley wasn't really worth it this year. Just same old buttons, PLUS disappointing art quality. Just wondering, do the staff do a background or art check about who gets a spot? I'm sorry if it's offensive, but honestly, I remember seeing some low quality art.
I don't think staff would turn people away just because the artwork quality doesn't meet with a certain individual's appeal. Buying from them is an option after all. And no offense, but that would make them look like douches in my opinion.
Post-Con depression and the fact that it was more..."strict" :-\
what i dont get about this i never see rude ppl, damm it must happen when im not around ???

- Disorganized gatherings list (I missed the When They Cry gathering as a result)
The Gathering Info boards are set up to be read like a manga would be (R to L, Top to Bottom). We had the largest amount of gatherings since 2005 (75) and 12 events. It was hard to fit it all into 4 sections. We are working on the Gathering Info boards for next year, but please stop by the gatherings table and ask the staff. They can help you find the information or will look it up for you. You can also go online here:
http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,12405.0.html
To the first post and look it up, or make a custom list of the info for your FanimeCon plans prior to attending FanimeCon.
*NOTE as a reminder* All Cosplayer Gatherings & Cosplayer Events are scheduled by the organizer of each one. Conflict may occur for you between FanimeCon's Program Schedule and the Cosplayer Gatherings & Cosplayer Events Schedule. It is up to each person to determine what they would like to attend and when. If you would like to join a gathering it might be helpful to go to the thread in the Gathering section of the Fanime Forums and talk with the other coplayers that will be attending that gathering also. There is a thread set up with links for those threads that wish to be on the info boards so you can quickly locate a thread. Here is that link:
http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,12406.0.html
Most of them will have their gathering info on their 1st post of their thread.
Sorry to hear you missed the WTC gathering.
Maybe it's just me, but I really noticed that there were a loooooot of "non-con goers" crowding up the convention. A lot of kids (as in teens) with out badges and just skate boards laughing at every one. When I was outside in front of the convention center, there were 3 retards throwng firework poppers at random cosplayers and blowing air horns at people, then running around. It's kind of a pain to be harassed by people who aren't even allowed to attend our con, just running rampid doing whatever they want, EVEN in the Dealers Hall!! I love going to con to hang out with people who have similar interests, but now I have to feel bad going to Fanime like I might get picked on or harassed! I dunno, I just wish they weren't allowed in or there were more strict rules on them.
Aside from the protesters, the only other things that I disliked was the video screening schedules (particularly the Sat screening of Eva 2.22) I never understood why it had to be at 8am. That said it was only a small thing. The other was the registration line which I recall took much longer compared to the previous 2 years where it was a lot faster. I was also disappointed that there was no seiyuu other than Haruko Momoi which wasn't bad or anything I was just expecting more.
The pre-reg line on thursday afternoon. Is it possible to have more people working behind the tables this year, to help the line go faster, or open earlier? again, the non-congoers that were wandering the halls, concourse, and looking around for room parties to crash. can you add people near the doors to look for people's badges, or would that cause too much of a back-up if there was an emergency?

I noticed that alot of non con goers at about 4 am walking in the con staring at people and during the day i would see skateboard punks as well.
i dont wanna resort to violence but if i were one of the cosplayers that had poppers thrown at,time for some excercise and when i mean excercise i mean chasing someone who wants to be funny.
and im a teen lol but atleast i have some sense

Allow me to provide the irony. You first make a seeming understanding comment about how people are harassing cosplayers. You finish with how "you're a teenager and have sense". But prior to that, you say, you'd chase someone down and beat them up for minor harassment.
Do you understand how that's rather nonsensical?

And the reverse could be said. A lot of con-goers harass random people with their screaming and "active playing" in front of the con-center, at the dining establishments, at the park, and in the hotels. It's a two way street. As I've stated, most anime fans are rather socially awkward people,a nd when you gather a lot of them together like this, they think it's ok to "let loose" for a more politically correct term. So they act in rather very socially unacceptable ways. This is quite bothersome to a lot of people(in and outside of the con). So before people start attacking people for harassing con-attendees, remember con attendees harass people too. It's kind of expected, be the adult about it and try to ignore it. If they cause actual problems... or being to start causing actual problems, once more, be an adult about it and handle it appropriately.

I can understand that they would be allowed to run around and hang out by the con center as it is not against any rules, but for throwing stuff at people action ought to be taken. :-\

I agree somewhat with both of you. I do recall seeing a really awkward artist selling... very... how do I explain it? Well I don't really know what she was thinking there is the option of not buying from them I suppose :/
But sometimes I really do think some people shouldn't sell their art (especially that girl, I remember some ridiculous sketching and crayola like stuff) and other people with a better quality in art should sell no?
Sometimes I get dissapointed in the artist alley and *sigh* and tell my friend, really, next time you should do this. ;A;
It especially sucks when you want to buy a commision and all the good ones are taken, but I guess that's my fault gotta rush in there >;9.

This is actually quite dumb. People want to show case and sell their artwork, despite how (not) good they are. You're basically saying that unless people reach a certain quality they can't sell/showcase their art? Think about it this way. If this was the case 98% of people on deviantart would have their accounts revoked. Because the mass majority of them are not of a high calibur. Let people sell their art because they're proud of it. Just because it's not AMAZING... doesn't mean anything. If you don't want to pay for it, then don't, but some people might and thes artists have a right to be able to sell it to those people that do want to buy it. I bet if I saw your friends art, I would think it sucks too... you know why? Because compared to my friends... it does suck. (just for reference, I'm friends with doujin artists and professional char designers/key animators for actual anime series). So even if you dislike their art and think your friend is better, it doesn't mean a damned thing, because my friends are better than yours. So how would you like it if I went up to your friend and told them how much their art sucks.
In semi-retrospect. 2ch did this awesome thread about evolution of artits. Where it let artists upload old work -> present to show their progression as an artist. Some of them were amazingly bad. Like, super terrible horrible bad, and in a span of a year->2 years or so went from being worse than generic 14yr. old girl doodles to professional artist quality. It's funny because their old work that sold as comissions at different conventions in Japan as jokes became collectibles for certain people that ended up making it as designers and professional artists. So... who knows.
Also, it seems many people hate the Christian protestors. Personally, as annoying as they are, i think they are perfect troll bait and can trigger some massive lolz.
QuoteBut sometimes I really do think some people shouldn't sell their art (especially that girl, I remember some ridiculous sketching and crayola like stuff) and other people with a better quality in art should sell no?
I usually don't like poking my nose into arguments but really, your tone was rather assuming. All artists have to start somewhere, and it definitely takes a lot of courage
and effort to showcase your work in the Artist's Alley. As PyronIkari said (and obviously it doesn't apply only to art, but to most everything else), there will always be those who are better than you and those who are worse. All an artist can do is to (hopefully) work on improving one's skills. Part of that process can be setting up shop in the Alley.
On the topic of 'quality level,' art is also subjective (...obviously). The notion of setting a status quo for what level of 'quality' should and should not be allowed is ridiculous.
QuoteSometimes I get dissapointed in the artist alley and *sigh* and tell my friend, really, next time you should do this. ;A;
If you're that disappointed with the AA, show up those other artists and put out your own work. ;P But on that note, those other artists who you might not think are as good as your friend ... well, they're making the effort to put themselves out there. Apparently that's more than your friend has done.
(Sorry I had to jump on this. This ignorant attitude towards less-skilled artists irritates me).
Alright back also I didn't mean it to make it sound as assuming or anything however I don't go up to people and tell them they suck. Which is how you guys make me seem I put it.
But I was only saying why sell something not worth the price, that person I saw didn't even seem to put as much as effort as the other artists. I just wish to see someone who put more effort.
Also I've seen the 2ch thing too, and thats just dandy you know pros.
I don't think the majority of the con is even that bad of artist, reading my post over perhaps I should've been clearer.
On what I was dissapointed in.
So sorry if I gave you the wrong impression.
I don't want to bring my friend into this so don't use her as an example, she already has a table for another con running so don't assume things either. :T I only tell her this because she has a tad more better quality then some of the other people and it would do good for her, not me.
People can show off their work as much as they want I never said they shouldn't.
In my belief though you should sell it when I think your quality or talent or whatnot reaches a certain point no? But if you believe that everyone even stick drawings can sell then alright, I was merely expressing something I never say out loud. So im sorry if Im offended.
So I dont know where all the other things you two are telling me about are coming from. V_V;;
moving along...

No... just no. Besides the fact that they WANT YOU to troll them, because it gives them attention(their end goal) no. Because what you're doing is giving the rest of the convention a bad name. As amusing as you might find it to troll the protestors, all that does is add fuel to the fire, which can cause larger problems to the convention as a whole. The protestors are protesting, when you troll them, a lot of it can be seen as actual harassment, since you're targeting them out and doing things directly. This causes problems with SJPD, which causes problems for the venue which causes problems for the con.
Just seriously, leave them alone and don't bother.
