If anyone has free time, come check out this Anime Club. It shows up on the Saturday of each month from 12- 5:30 at the Library. They have quite a selection of anime showings. Come see it!
Their website: www.nnanime.com
Okay, so I made this FAQ for any of those who wish to join No-Name
What is No-Name Anime?
"No-Name AnimeTM ("ah-nee-may") is the premiere Japanese animation club in the San Francisco/San Jose region, often showing the best anime before anyone else. We've helped, various local cons, and also held special meetings to help some local libraries with their reading programs in recent years. Our meetings are at the Library, usually on the Saturday of the month, starting at 12:30."
Where is it located?
It is currently located at the Library.
I can't seem to find out where that is, do you have a link?
From what time does the meeting begin and end?
It starts promptly at 12:30 and ends at 5:30.
When is the next meeting?
The next meeting will be on
What will they be showing this month?
They will be showing in the following order:
Do we need to bring anything with us?
Nah, just the usual bare essentials of an otaku. Yourself, a soft cushion for the maximum amount of pleasure, maybe some cash for lunch, anything "Swap-able", and any artwork you'd like to get critiqued. Well, you get the deal, right?
Is it free?
By the sacred words of college life, YES! IT IS FREE!
Now, if there are any other questions or information you need, please visit www.nnanime.com or either PM me or EdOfNoName.
Again, please do come out! And bring anyone else you can with you!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
NEWS UPDATE!!!
To check out on the lastest whereabouts of the No-Name Anime Club, check the last page of this thread!!! Library locations are always changing! So, please check in!!!
I've been there once for a Millenium Actress showing (I didn't know what that was yet, lol). Amazing cuz I never knew there were people showing stuff so close to where I live (only about a 20 minute drive).
I need to go back down there again and I will drag someone to take me there lol XDD
I've been going to No Name for over a year(it's less than 10 minutes away) but school work has stopped me from attending the last two...I miss seeing Azumanga Daioh! XD Chiyo-chan's soo cute! ^_^
I bring bad news!
Today's No-Name meeting was cancelled because of the death of the poor projector... *Sniffle*
We were able to finsih the 1st episode of King Of Bandits Jing and then after that... Our meeting was concluded.
For those who have been going... Perhaps I will see you there next time... I'm a short little asian girl usually in the front rows! (I'm usually there because I can't see very well without my glasses... .>_<.)

That could be a blessing in disguise. It's been about 2 years since I last checked that club out and I wasn't too impressed with the front projector used. The library sure could use a better projector and scaler.
That one little red dot in the middle of the screen always drives me nuts! I haven't been able to go the last couple of times. I really wanted to see the February line up too. So I was relieved when Senpai told me it was cancelled. (She's the only one in aour group of 7(8?) that made that trip.) Maybe I'll make the next one and I'll see it then. I know. I'm mean.
Yay! Maybe I'll see you there.
can any of you tell me if there is still an anime club at overfelt highschool. i started the veary first year of it. i couldnt do much with it but show some dbz, and dark stalkers series. i just hope someone took it places i never did. i hope my child grew up in a way i couldnt help it do.
Last time I went was march 30th.. Guess what happen.. NO ONE WAS THERE! why.. RECCA CON. I was so mad I totaly forgot about that one. errrr
Hrm.. speaking of an anime club.. is there one Anywhere around Sacramento. ;.; I wanna join one.. yesh.. if there is.. uhm.. yeah
WHERE IS THAT?
are u talking about sacramento ? or No name Fanime ?
Sacramento is up north from here ( San jose ) and is the capitol of the state ( California )
No name anime is based in south san jose running out of
Santa Teresa Library...
if ur looking for an anime club, I'm sure almost every community college has some form of anime club... im not sure if its allowed at the middle school or high school level, since again the majority of anime has over PG-13 rated content in it... and of course, if u know of UCDavis they also have an awsome anime club too...

Hopefully Ill make it down this time.
Most middle/high school anime clubs are a bunch of boys sitting around watching DBZ at lunch. I've been told to check out NN, but sadly have not had time.

Try sacramentoanime.com, they have meetings every month and the bi-monthly sac comic/collectibles show which I run the anime video room (or at least til today). lol :D
Aw, man... I might be able to go this month. I so want to meet you guys too! At 2:30 P.M., I have to go to San Jose City College to take some sort of Assesment Test for my summer school I will be taking. Darn... ; - ;
No-Name Anime has a free anime showing on Saturday June 18, 2005 at the Saratoga Library (http://www.santaclaracountylib.org/saratoga/ - near San Jose, California). Scheduled is Steamboy, Mermaid's Forest, Figure 17, R.O.D TV and Chrono Crusade: http://www.nnanime.com/flyers/2005/sch05_06.html
(I was tempted to start a new thread so I could edit the first post, but since this thread was already here it seemed more polite to use it. The old projector with the red dot has been replaced with a much better one and some months we even have a backup projector on hand just in case. The new meeting location is the Saratoga Library. For future months, please check the web site, the room at this library is not always available for our use on the 3rd Saturday.)
The No-Name Anime staff enjoy watching subtitled anime with big group of people, we hope you do to!

Hello there! Nice to see this thread up and running again. Ah, that's right, the new location of Saratoga Library was chosen and such. Well, this month, I will make it for sure! I've missed the last two due to... Er.... Stupid things. Well, in any case, I am still trying to bring in new members since... Things have been dead lately. In the meantime, I'll continue searching, and will see you soon. Ciao~! ^^
Oh, yes. Also everyone, I updated the first post on this thread. I made a useful FAQ for anyone who'd be interested in coming. Also, I will be updating the upcoming meetings and showings that they will be having each month.
After the June meeting, the place and time for many of us to go see "Howl's Moving Castle" is Cineart's Santana Row on Saturday the 18th at 7:25 PM. People are welcome to join us.
Would you happen to know if Cineart will be presenting the subbed or dubbed version?
Quote from: gmontemWould you happen to know if Cineart will be presenting the subbed or dubbed version?
I'm expecting it to be the dub. I haven't heard of any subbed showings in the South Bay.
Squee! I should tell my friend! We were planing on seeing it Friday afternoon, but, seeing it with a larger group of people in teh evening might be more fun ^_^
Listen up people! New edit on the first post! Information on the next meeting and showings! ;3
Last month I missed No Name due to work, only the second time I've missed it in what will be tomorrow... exactly four years of attending... T_T (My first meeting (http://www.nnanime.com/flyers/2001/fly01_07.html))
But I'm definitely going tomorrow! I'll be hanging out front as usual, with Chloe & Loktera. And Cedric, too.
You guys should all go -- Master Keaton, Chrno Crusade, R.O.D. TV, Mermaid's Forest, and Giant Robo are all really awesome shows, and I don't think I even need to say anything about Ghost in the Shell. Can't say I know anything about Dokkoida, though.
But seriously, over the years, there have been a lot of really cool things I doubt I'd have ever seen if not for No Name.
Also, I can vouch for my high school anime club not being a typical one. Then again, it was founded by some of the Studio Sokodei folks. ;) But this past year, I showed all kinds of great stuff, from the You're Under Arrest OAV to Tsubasa Chronicle.
But I don't get to go to my high school anime club any more. D:
I wouldn't mind going, but who is willing to pick me up at the santa jose diridon caltrain station?
Quote from: RyuHayabusaI wouldn't mind going, but who is willing to pick me up at the santa jose diridon caltrain station?
Um... I'm not sure.... I could if I can drive. >.< There has to be someone! How far is it?

Yeah, sunrise mall. ^^; It's very small...x_x I haven't been to it, I dunno if I'll be able to go this year, because I'll be in LA at that time...
But seriously, though, if anyone from Sac State is reading this, lets start an anime club!
Nyaaa~~ I wasn't able to go to the July screenings, but I'll be there for August! unless something comes up. Grr.

Great!
No-Name Anime has joined CPM's anime club program. But to stay in it, we need our members to sign up for their on-line fanzine "Gogai! Gogai!". For the regular members who hang out on the Board, may I ask that you go to http://www.centralparkmedia.com/animeu/signup.cfm and sign up indicating "No-Name Anime" (and not some other spelling) as the club name. Any fan artists might try submitting something to "Gogai! Gogai!" (If any people who are not No-Name Anime members are reading this thread and care, they can sign up under their own club or as an individual -- even if that doesn't help No-Name get swag.)

I wish I could go. I still owe that dude $5.

Actually there is 3, 2 in sac and 1 in davis and some semi-private ones.
check out http://www.sacramentoanime.com and http://groups.yahoo.com/sacanimefen for more details
The one in Davis is called Davis Anime Club, not sure what the URL is for that one.
It seems like whenever somebody wants to do a anime meeting here, it is either too far out or people end up flaking out. From what I seen in the past it is the later and mostly since they could just download it without being social. I would like to start a club, but the logistics (like renting a room + projector) is horrid. But yeah if you go to a school at least that should make it easier.
/who is also in Sacramento and used to run Foothill Anime (South Bay area) back in the day.

I like how I still keep on obsessing over how I owe that one dude $5.
And I'm very sorry to say that I'm not going to make it for March, either.
This is why I hate school.
Just noticed the meeting's at Saratoga Library. What's that one like compared to the Santa Theresa? I only attended their Feb 16, 2002 meeting. Thank goodness they archive their old flyers. ;) I don't remember my first impressions but I won something from their raffle. XD
Edit: I just checked out the staff page. Is it just me or has it not been updated in at least 4 years? XD
Quote from: gmontemJust noticed the meeting's at Saratoga Library. What's that one like compared to the Santa Theresa? I only attended their Feb 16, 2002 meeting.
The Saratoga Library has a nice community room. We now have a bigger screen, a better projector and in the last two months we've figured out where to put it at Saratoga so the subtitles are relatively high compared to people sitting in front.
From the staff's point of view, when Santa Theresa changed from $10/afternoon to $35/hour, it became too expensive for every month. Saratoga is still $10/afternoon. We go back to Santa Theresa sometimes if we can't get the room in Saratoga.

People have to come to the showings, get our newsletter and read "Staff Picks" to keep up with our current obsessions!

Cool. Maybe I'll check this out if I can. I'm curious to see what kind of budgets public libraries have for these sort of things. Hehehe.

Oh well, I'll definitely make the June one.
Chloe has updated post #1 with details for the showing on Saturday June 10. We'll be starting a little later than usual, 1pm, to accomodate the other group using the Saratoga library's room before us.
fyi, During the break, I'll bring King's Blood, Steve Jackson Game's anime fantasy-themed card game, originally published in Japan by Kadokawa Shoten in Japan.

Some of the No-Name Staff are going to see Alice Shikina's Okinawa 1945 play http://www.threewisemonkeys.org/ at Theatre of Yugen http://www.theatreofyugen.org/nohspace.html on Saturday (June 16). One of the actresses is a former Fanime staffer. The play runs through June 25.
Another place to find some of the No-Name staff will be at the Preservation Hall Jazz Band Concert at Stanford on Monday, July 3rd http://livelyarts.stanford.edu/event.php?code=JUL3
Unlike regular No-Name showings, neither of these events are free. But we'd be happy to see any No-Name/Fanime friends who can join us!
People who attended last months meeting know that due to technical difficulties we didn't have copies of the newsletter for everybody. There's now a PDF version you can download from //www.nnanime.com. Since we normally make people show up in person to get our newsletter, this is the big chance for people who've never been to one of our meetings to check out our newsletter.
Our July meeting is Saturday, July 8, at the Saratoga Library and features a full length Detective Conan movie and the start of KamiChu! Please join us!
