Title: Restriction?
Post by: Zergling_pack on July 02, 2010, 03:55:02 AM
So this is going to be the first anime convention I have ever gone too(2011) ;D. So i have questions I am going all out with my costumes, but I have a problem with one. It is going to be VERY large. It's going to be about 6-7 feet tall most likely 7 feet though. And extremely wide like too big to fit through a normal doorway I would have to walk through side ways, i hope, but i assume they have double doors. So firstly is there a size restriction? Second, even though I know my costume will be amazing and many people would love it, is it just too big? I wouldn't want to make others angry about getting in the way. I know my friends have problems with people that wear really large wings because they act careless. Have any answers? I don't want to say exactly what i am going to be I don't want to ruin the surprise.

FanimeCon Cosplay Rules & Weapons Policy
Please be aware that this is an early draft and is current as of June 18, 2010

FanimeCon Costume Rules & Limitations
  • All costumes worn within the convention center must fit through a standard doorway.

I think this answers your question best.  It is from the link Somebody posted, but this is the part that directly addresses your concerns.

Don't give up though.  There is an art to melding inspiration with reality.  I don't know what cosplay your planning, but maybe there is a way to do it while keeping with the rules.   :)

Thanks BrightHeart-I was in a rush earlier (or at least thought I had to be) and didn't think about getting the specific part.
BTW Zergling, I've seen a LOT of large costumes that were just fine, so I imagine yours shouldn't be too outlandish. There was something in the policy mentioning having a handler if needed (I can't remember the specifics, sorry) but we've had quadsuits (http://browse.deviantart.com/?q=Fanime%202010&order=5&offset=168#/d2siry6), large skirts (http://browse.deviantart.com/?order=5&q=Fanime%202010#/d2t01bq), and giant pocky boxes (don't know where I found the picture that I have, sorry, but it's certainly taller than 5-5 on its own and gets taller depending on who is wearing it! It's width is wider than two people, FYI) that were all quite large and were perfectly fine. (although, I don't think any of them visited the dealer's room in these costumes, because it's usually pretty crowded in there.)

Very True, I saw many things like Tetris and Rubix Cube and things even bigger than that, + if I was the 2nd biggest pocky box, then it may work

Keep in mind rovers and general Fanime staff may have to "adjusted" or judgement call costumes on sight... but ONLY it poses a health/safety or or injury risk to yourself and/or others.

Sometimes the convention center also has special rules about special conditions -

this is coming from a guy who had balloons on him to find out i was restricted from certain areas because of the balloons :P

Thank you all For your help I am going to re-draft my design to see if I can get it to fit through a doorway easily, but still look correct.

Also, a lot of cosplayers hang out around the fountains and do shoots outside. If your costume is too big to fit through doors, you can still have it outside. I know when I make Millenum Earl, it may not fit through a doorway, so I would just wear it in the courtyard.
