and that's pretty far from Fanime. Is there any parking near fanime? I don't think my friends and I could walk from the hotel. I heard there's a shuttle, but it only goes to the airport.
Oh and I'm also asking if there's any other alternative to getting to the convention from the hotel if I can't drive from the hotel to the convention or drive from the convention to the hotel.
I see that there's a light rail system, but I don't know much about it.
There's a parking garage that's right next to the convention center. http://www.sanjosecivic.com/directions/parking.asp The website has the rates for that specific garage at the top. As you can see, the rates are pretty reasonable (year before last my friend and I had to park in a lot that was $10/hour), and it's a very short walk from there to the convention action.
oh thanks!
:D
btw, how quickly do these parking garages near the convention get filled during Fanime??
there's lots of parking round the SJCC:

Great thing to note is that the 2nd and San Carlos lot is free for part of the con.
Well I can't say anything about the other good parking options ewu suggested since I've never used any garages beyond the San Jose Civic, and I forget the name of the lot I used last year. What I can tell you about the Civic, though, far as how quickly it fills up, is you definitely want to get there sooner as opposed to later. You'll have a tough time finding a spot if you get there in the afternoon, but if you get there around 9-10 am, you might circle around for a little bit, but it shouldn't be as difficult. I'd say early-mid afternoon parking is the trickiest time, though, since a lot of people are in the convention center, and likely won't be leaving until going to get dinner, or heading back home, which is likely going to happen until later at night.
Actually, FanimeCon has set up a shuttle for attendees with the Doubletree, so you'll be able to get a ride right from the hotel to the Convention Center! You'll receive an information sheet when you check into your room.
How does the shuttle work though? Does it come hourly? half hourly? So what if we miss one ride, how long til the next?
If you look at the hotels page, it will tell you. https://www.cmrhousing.com/fani_3a/HotelInfo.aspx?HTNAME=Doubletree+Hotel+San+Jose&CATNAME=NON-SMOKING+QUEEN%2fQUEEN+BEDDED+ROOM+(NO+ROLLAWAY+BED+AVAILABLE&HTCODE=DTSJ&CATG=QUEN&OCC=&ARR=&DEP=&CUR=

You might have already booked the room, but in case not, there's another option you might want to consider. On Fanime Housing they recently added another hotel - the Hotel De Anza, which is apparently 3.5 blocks from the convention center. Only things that might make you shy away are 1) I don't know if that's closer to the action than Motel 6, and 2) De Anza is probably more expensive since they're charging $99/night for a 1-bedded room. Regardless, it's worth a look.
The public transport (buses) down there go everwere. Look up the VTA down there for back up times. Parking is EXPENSIVE i have my own spot because i live near by that charges 7 a day over 4 days TT_TT lol
There is a place super close AND super cheap on weekends at least. Behind the Convention center by the South Hall is a rather small lot that's only $7-$6 for Saturday and Sunday all day.
The Doubletree has a special Fanime rate for parking if you're a registered guest. It's $5/car/day with in/out privileges and you can use their shuttle to get to the con from the hotel. Never used the shuttle before so don't know how that will pan out.
