Post by: eHash on April 18, 2011, 01:50:08 PM
FANIME DANCE 2011
The 2011 Dance will have 2 main dance floors featuring a variety of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) Styles. 2 unique environments have been created to help people comfortably find their groove.

PAJAMA PARTY (Day 0: THURSDAY 8PM to 2AM in the J BALLROM)
Pajamas are not required, but this pre-con event offers an intimate social lounge atmosphere catalyzing "con" friendships for the days to come.

ROOM 1: SJCC J BALLROOM (Thursday 8PM to 2 AM; Friday 7 PM to 4 AM, Saturday 6:30 PM to 4 AM, Sunday 4 PM to 4 AM)
"Ballrom J" of the Convention Center will be transformed into a spacious dance arena with hypnotic beats and vibrant lighting. Filled wall to wall with sound and energy, the main stage for the 2011 Dance will be a must-attend destination during your FanimeCon quest.

Room 2: HILTON MARKET ROOM (Friday 6PM to 4AM; Saturday 4PM to 4AM; Sunday 4PM to 3AM)
The Hilton Market Room will offer a smaller, more intimate lounge environment for an eclectic music showcase ranging from Asian pop to other alternative styles.

FANIME DANCE 2011 DJs:
Dark0 (Happy Hardcore/Drum‛N‛Bass)
Bringing the harder, faster beats ofdiversity, DJ Dark0 adds energy, excitement, and rhythm to make (happy) hardcore not only happy, but dance floor friendly.

eHash (Trance/Mixed EDM/Asian Pop)
Known for bringing heavy bass infused with seductive analog synth melodies, eHash takes his annual break from his San Francisco Nightclub residency to bring his blends of Epic Trance, UK Hard House, and Asian Pop.

KinetX (Trance)
Best known for his electric stage presence and ability to show off his glowstick moves between tracks, DJ Kinetx rocketed into the SF Nightclub Trance scene in the late 90s with his skillful blending of epic tales through euphoric melodies and hypnotic rhythms.

Melvis (Progressive House/Mixed EDM)
dj melvis proves that not all DJs are single-minded conduits for your illicit drug habit. Entering his 4th year as a Fanime DJ, he brings a smörgåsbord of audio candy to the speakers from disco/vocal/funky house, modern rock, synth-pop, and electro-clash.

PeterLo (Mixed EDM/Asian Pop)
Making his first appearance as a performer at FanimeCon, DJ PeterLo will be spinning all your favorite K-Pop hits in a live dance remix format. Got a request? He'll throw it in, along with some J-Pop and western pop.

RadPaolo (House)
DJ radpaolo returns to Fanime with sickly sweet indie-pop, 80's, New Wave, disco, electro, and blog house. As a long time FanimeCon-atendee, he will present his attempt to catalyze the social atmosphere with 120 something beats.

Reign (Trance/Mixed EDM)
A true powerhouse of the decks, Reign returns to the FanimeCon Dance with a melodic state trance while keeping it funky with some sick dirty electro house.

Stormy Rayner (Trance/Techno)
Bay Area EDM DJ and Producer Stormy Rayner has been a fan favorite at the FanimeCon dance with his uncompromising blend of Progressive, Psy-Trance, and Techno is deep, dark, techy, and energetic.

The Final hour of the dance will be decided during the con.  Mel and I are reserving that spot just in case the dance does not last past 3. (mixed experiences the past few years).

If someone was interested in dj'ing for the con. How would you go about signing up for it? I know its really late in the game to ask but, it would help me out alot to know for the 2012 con.

Competition was high this year and DJ Recruitment and selection has passed.  To view this year's process, see: http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,15460.0.html

you can also volunteer this year for a "proctor" position to see how things are run.

You can listen to what I plan to play here:
http://soundcloud.com/peterlo/fanime-kpop-teaser

I plan on playing asian pop on the basis that it was what I was requested to play. Though I plan to stick to that for the most part, I'm willing to accommodate to people who dance on the dancefloor. If you ask for dubstep, but don't dance, it's not going to happen. But if you promise to rock out to that afrojack track, then yeah sure, I'll put it on!

There's an asian pop thread I started where you can make sure your favorite asian pop songs are in the mix for the slots I'm spinning. That thread is viewable here: http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,15895.0.html

and lastly, *some shameful self-promotion,* you can follow me as a dj at the following places to get a sense of what else I'm capable of:

Hi I have a question. Would it be possible to hand out postcards advertising a house/DnB event for 18 and over that takes place in San Francisco? Part of the proceeds goes towards charity to help kids there.

Thanks in advance!

No. You can contact con marketing if you want to try and get approval for soliciting at the con, however, if they catch you in the dance it could lead to removal from the con....so contact marketting first.

So, so happy with the music selection.
And the lack of dubstep. XD

BTW, someone might want to tell all the Rovers staff that glowsticks (LED or chemical) are okay for the Dance, as one of them tried to tell us that it wasn't allowed at all in the convention. I'm sure it was just some miscommunication, or operating on some older info, but if some attendees also didn't know, they might have been misinformed as well and then mad when they got to the Dance or to one of the performances at the dance hall.

(it would be a sad, sad Momoi performance without glowsticks. I'm sure Yukie would love to see them, too!)

Have the rules changed wrt glowsticks (chemical) in the Dance rooms? My friend apparently had his sticks confiscated tonight. There could have been a communication problem (he speaks very little English), but he definite had them taken away.

I need to meet with con ops tomorrow morning to clear this up before the momoi event. supposedly someone cracked glowsticks open to light their costume/body up on thursday or friday.
Title: Re: FANIME DANCE 2011: DJ Schedule, Locations, Rules
Post by: eHash on May 31, 2011, 02:10:16 PM
I apologize to everyone who lost their glowsticks on sat.  As the one of the heads of dance I was not notified until the end of the sat. event by individuals that their sticks were confiscated.  There was a miscommunication with the rovers.  By Sunday night this issue was corrected between con-ops, facilities, the dance, and the rovers and chemical based glowsticks were allowed in.

To clarify the reason why they were not allowed in:
If they break, the clean up represents a huge cost.  Last year, some -idiot- (forgive me) decided that the highly toxic chemicals inside would help brighten up his costume. If I'm on fire, I didn't pour gasoline on myself...

This is probably not the right thread for me to say this, but since the con is over:
Use your best judgement.
Don't complain about the dance if you got kicked out because you were doing something wrong.  If you got arrested, you did something wrong.
If you got kicked out because you were doing inappropriate sexual acts in the dance, don't come back, get a hotel room.
Drinking out of a water bottle in the J and claiming it's just water isn't going to help you since the bottle wasn't allowed in, in the first place.
If you are complaining about not being able to bring a bag or prop in, make the suggestion to have a coat check.  The dance has been suggesting, proposing this for years, but without the attendees support or demand,it will never happen.
also, if you're the couple under caught under the table, thanks for helping us determine that skirted tables are no longer allowed in the dance... :(

Post by: SquallLHeart on May 31, 2011, 02:25:58 PM
observing from the outside, yes, there was a some mis-communications that happened.
I knew there was no way that glowsticks would not be, not allowed at Momoi's concert... oh no way.. but for regular dance.. i heard they were not allowed minus the thin necklace/wristband-ish like ones.

but i certainly remember the guy who thought it was a good idea to break open one of those glowsticks years ago and poured it on himself..
(uh.. toxic.. and.. broken glass?!) IIRC, rules about glowsticks were pretty much non-existent until that incident.. so.. yeah... you can blame THAT GUY... he certainly ruined your fun.

and.. eww about the couple under the table... i heard about that.
also.. the majority of issues that stem up during the entire convention... are during dance events.
it's emphasized over and over that Fanime is a dry convention... don't be dumb and show up intoxicated... or even worse, with alcohol.

trying to pass off with a badge that doesn't belong to you, or with one that is fake.. doesn't fly either.. so you only have yourself to blame if you get caught.

lol not to single anyone out, but if you are going to use someone else's badge (which you shouldn't be doing) don't use a "known" person's badge, or at least if you're a guy, use a guy's badge...I mean come on....a guy named "Candy"? LOL people had to use their real names with ID to get their badge in the first place....If that was really your name (and you are a guy) i'll give you props.

that goes the other way too..

don't let anyone use your badge... that's just.. a big no-no.. they're probably get it taken.. and then you'll have to go to ConOps to pick up your "lost" badge.. and explain why you let someone borrow it.
