Title: To recieve your hotel room..
Post by: HakureiSandwih on April 23, 2011, 07:47:44 PM
To receive your hotel room on Friday, does the person who originally booked the room have to be there?

A friend has booked a 4 person room but might not arrive at the con until 2-3. I was wondering if I can somehow arrive early and get our rooms because I am worried we will get shafted and moved into a 2 person room or something..

Our room is at the Hilton.

I'm sure they won't bump you because your friend gets there at the ACTUAL check-in time. They are a business, one based in customer service, so they really have no good reason to do that. You can always call the hotel about your name being slapped on there in case you can do an early check-in.

Check-in isn't until 4pm. Even if your friend arrives earlier than anticipated, you probably won't be able to check in, so you have nothing to worry about.

Ah I see. I will try and call then.

Also, aside form receiving the email about room reservations, will we receive another one (like, sya, week before con) about it from Fanime housing/Hilton for notification of our rooms?

No, you wont get another notice email. If you're paranoid about the reservation you can call the hotel a week or so before con and have them check your conformation number.

The one who made the reservation is the only one who will be able to check in, but the hotel may be able to hold your bags until your friend gets there to check in.

If you ask, they can probably check you in earlier than 3pm. Every year I was able to check in as early as 12pm, once at 10am -- no charge. So your friend may be able to grab it for ya sooner.

If your name to the list of people registered for the room, you should be able to check in in your friend's stead, even if they were the ones who made the initial reservation. The only thing is that the room will now be on your credit/debit card (required at check in time).

The other thing (at least in theory) is that the Hilton is reserved by room type (e.g. double/double versus king), which means they shouldn't be bumping your room type.  None of that's ever certain due to reservation snafus, but it might alleviate some concern.

(As others have noted, showing up at normal check-in (usually 3pm) shouldn't leave you with problems -- especially since early check-in is never really a guarantee.)

You will be able to check in when the (a) room is ready. If room service is done with the room early, you can check in early.
I have checked in at a hotel before at 10am - because the room I wanted hadn't been used the night before and had already been serviced.
I have also been unable to check in at a hotel before until 5pm, because the room I had been assigned was the last room to be serviced and the other available rooms were a different type.
