2013 UPDATE
...I hate it when I plan things out way too much in advance and then something happens.
I was looking forward to attending Fanime 2013 and running this gathering, then I realize that Spring 2013 graduation for Sac State is on the same weekend as Fanime! So I've decided that I won't be attending Fanime even if my graduation is on Friday so save my money and spend it instead at Anime Expo, a convention that I need to get back to even more than this con.
I'll be locking this thread so that whoever takes over the gathering can do so with a clean thread.
However, this doesn't mean that I'm not running gatherings anymore. I'll be running a Persona/SMT Gathering at SacAnime Winter 2013 on Friday, January 4th, 2013 at 8pm at the Gateway location! More details will follow on the FB page! http://www.facebook.com/SMTCACosplay
I would like to thank everyone who has been going to these gatherings and those who have run them in my absence. I love you all, and I hope to see you all soon at future gatherings!

2012 ARCHIVES
Another year, another Shin Megami Tensei/Persona Gathering at FanimeCon 2012! This long-running franchise is on its game with the releases of Persona 4: The Animation, Persona 2: Innocent Sin (PSP), Devil Survivor 2 (NDS), and Devil Survivor Overclocked (3DS) last year with releases of both Persona 4: The Ultimate/Persona 4: Arena (Arcade, PS3, 360), Persona 2: Eternal Punishment (PSP), Persona 4: The Golden (PS Vita) slated for 2012 as well as the rumored proper sequel to Strange Journey.
I'm having a debate over having a midnight gathering with people who want to go, and as of right now I'm leaning towards not having the midnight gathering. Nothing's set in stone though, so share you opinions with us!
Fanime will be taking group pictures during the Gathering/Event this year. If you do not want to be included in those pictures please step aside for those photos. By remaining with the group when the pictures are being taken you give your consent to be photographed.

My brother and friends and I are planning to Catherine cosplay. That would be....Vincent, Johnny, Tobi, Orlando and Boss... if we all end up going.
Due to my working schedule @ con, I probably won't be able to make it (at least in costume :'() to the gathering. I'm still going to bring Mitsuru anyway, so if you see me, say hi!
I want to go as Jonny from Catherine and/or someone from P4. I would love to have a Midnight Gathering again since this year we might not get dispersed.

Well the one thing that's holding me back is what happened last year when there wasn't communication between the Cosplay staff and the Rovers who gave us a hard time despite the fact that we were official.
I wish I could make a poll, but I am taking opinions right up to the deadline of when we have to submit cosplay gatherings. So have at it!

Haha, I'm not too familiar with all the gathering rulings, but is it against the rules to have just a bunch of people (who happen to be from the same series) just standing around when other passerbys just want to take pictures of everyone?

I'm planning on cosplaying the Female Main Protagonist from Persona 3 Portable.
The only problem is I was already planning on wearing Kyubey from Madoka on Saturday, since the gathering for that series is that day as well. :( But if this Persona gathering is moved to Midnight/Dark Hour..., that would be more convenient to switch into!

My finances have been falling apart in the last month or so, so I can't go Fanime this year.
I'm already in talks for other people to step in to coordinate the gathering. I will still be updating the thread, but I won't be there in person.
I'm very sorry this had to happen, but conventions aren't that fun when you're running on broke.

We plan on bringing both costumes to the convention either way so it's just a matter of picking, really.
A midnight gathering would be pretty fun and could solve the problem of who to dress as.

How does someone run a gathering? I think that might spark up some responses.
Well I have another person that helped me run the gathering last year and also ran the Midnight Gathering, but he'll probably still need help. What you would do is corral the gathering together and make sure that all the photos are taken in order in a timely fashion.

I'd be willing to run a gathering as well as a midnight one too if people were interested. I've run a few Ace Attorney gatherings in my time so I know how it goes.
I didn't plan on cosplaying Persona during the daytime gathering but I heard you guys needed help in light of the organizer's absence (in fact he approached me during Daicon asking for help). Originally I passed because I thought it wouldn't be kosher to have a non Persona cosplayer run the Persona gathering but I had a few people ask to help out so if you don't mind I can help out again this year for both gatherings.

I think G-Force told me he'd be able to show up for one but if not I'd be willing to run it myself for sure. I'm assuming everyone wants it to be the same day, so how's Sunday at Midnight (aka Saturday at 11:59 pm) sound?

You can have both so that those peeps who can only be there during the day can attend that one.

Hey, I'd like to apologize for flaking out and not putting in the paperwork. I've been busy with finals and all, and I do really feel bad that this combined with the fact that I'm not showing up at all because of my situation has thrown everyone into disarray and that it all comes back to me.

Heya! I was one of Heero's contacts earlier who couldn't make it to the event. I'd like to clarify that I had declined the offer to run the gathering because I am actually really really nervous about doing that in general, but I wouldn't mind helping out. As long as I don't have to be in charge or anything. Heh.
I also happen to be tech-stupid and had a really hard time locating this thread. I apologize for the inconvenience. ^^; I'll be attending as the female protagonist from P3P (I usually call her Minako, but most people seem to prefer Hamuko...?) and I'll be with my girlfriend Jackie who will be Shinjiro Aragaki.
P.S. I was reading some comments about someone with a megaphone last year... I can't believe someone would do that! Talk about inconsiderate... :/ Here's to a better event that doesn't get us in any trouble! *thumb's up*

Whoooo we've got another gathering down and the attendance has swelled in both cosplayers and photographers/viewers. I can't comment on the afternoon gathering as I was late and DarkenedWings had full control of the event so I backed out as not to complicate things however the Midnight Gathering I was there from beginning to end. From what I saw, we had a very lively group filled with tons of photos and super cooperative cosplayers where the energy reached such high levels that I had to collapse on the floor when things were done (that's a good sign as I was smiling ;D)
Gotta thank HeeroYuy135 for keeping this thread updated, DarkenedWings for helping me run the midnight gathering on account my voice was shot and to everyone who stayed. My biggest regret was not involving the Cathrine side characters more so if you are reading this then I'm soooo sorry. While Cathrine is a bit harder to include in pictures as opposed to Persona 2 or Devil Summoner, it's not really an excuse to just give the series a cold shoulder. I was beating my head against the wall to try to get the cast more involved with the rest of the characters. Any ideas with this issue would be most welcomed cause I really want to do my best in getting everyone involved.
With that said, in comparison to other gatherings in the past, our numbers have grown enough where I really noticed the benefit of having help from the cosplayers a second organizer and the crowd for both ideas for photos and keeping track who's been photographed and who hasn't so that really helped moved things along.
Unrelated note, my streak of losing my voice after running Persona gatherings continues. :P

I want to sincerely thank all the gorgeous cosplayers who showed up to the gatherings! You all looked amazing and I'm so glad we had such a great turnout for both meetups this year. I'm sad that I didn't really get much in the way of photos since I was too busy running the ship, but I'm sure some will show up soon. Hopefully the gatherings were run to your liking, I would very much appreciate feedback on how things went. I did my best to try and include everyone equally, but like G mentioned above, it can be difficult with so many different series and characters together. Regardless, I'm so happy for how much representation we had and I hope everyone had fun!
Please share your photos once you have them uploaded and processed! I'm excited to see them. Thank you all so much again, and those of you who will be at AX, I'll see you there!

Orlando and I had noticed how much you tried to get us in photos and greatly appreciated it. Also we understand that it was hard to get us into more shots, though I admit I grumbled a little bit about it, but it happens and it was still a cool meeting. I'll have some pictures uploaded and I'll post a link to them when I can.

My friend Lady-Saru and I have made plans on cosplaying Theodore and Elizabeth, but we don't know for certain yet if we'll be doing it for 2013 or for the year after. It depends on whether we can get the needed funds for fabric before the con (we'll both be attending collage during that time).
I'll be there as Catherine next year ;D Hopefully if this doesn't clash with other gatherings!

I would have totally worn my Radiant Historia cosplay to this if I would have known! (I'm always willing to crash a gathering... ::) ) Maybe someone would be recognized it, haha.
Anyway, next year, my Eruca (Radiant Historia) cosplay will be making a return, and I'm hoping to have Trisha (Catherine), but the con is so far in the future, who knows if I'll be able to make this gathering and what I would wear to it.
Even though our name suggests Shin Megami Tensei & Persona, Atlus titles are definitely welcomed at this gathering!
