Title: Disney buys Lucasfilm.(jj abrams edition)
Post by: Glitch on October 31, 2012, 12:50:07 PM
I'm sure you all have already heard this.

What are your thoughts on this? I have no idea what to think. Star Wars will finally be out of Lucas' hands but who knows what Disney will do. I do not want these films turned into Jedis of the Carribean.

My gut reaction was along the lines of "oh hell no..." but that changed the longer I thought about it.  Disney has had a relationship with the Star Wars franichise since Star Tours opened up in their parks in the 80's.  My hope is they'll do more good things with it, and honestly, I don't know how they could do any worse than the last 3 films Lucas put out.  Time will tell!

My guess it would not be that bad. Diseny does owen Studio Ghibli and the movies are still great.

My guess they will just be focused on marketing and disturbution just like with Studio Ghibli. Or just use the special effects/movie making gear that LucasFilms has.

I doubt it. Why would Disney give up a great opportunity to get more money? I love Disney with all my heart, but it is still a corperation and would do everything in their powers to make as much money as they freaking can.

There's alot of speculation behind the future of star wars because either:
-they do things their usual way, mess things up in comparison and get backlash for "ruining" something that they had no idea how to go about it

or

-they ask someone for advice and proceed in a way that will satisfy the pre-existing fanbase while asserting their name over the title

Well, looks like jj abrams has been chosen to direct the next Star Wars.

There are many things to talk about concerning this. So I'll put my analysis down like this.

I'm fine with all of this as long as Boba Fett or any other Mandalorians are in it.

I will stab my eyes out if I see a pink Boba Fett in any of the sequels...

Because Lucas has done such a wonderful job on the sequels up until this point?

I don't know... the last 3 Star Wars movies were total meh.  J.J. Abrams makes things shiny and pretty... and fun!  I am personally freaking out about the new movie.  I can't wait.

Abrams isn't worst director ever but he is not fit to continue the next episodes of Star Wars. I am aware that nobody will recapture the magic of the original trilogy, but I prefer somebody that will add some depth to the characters and story.

Abrams is more suited for popcorn flicks(although much better at it than michael bay is). Much like the rumored film of Zack snyder (that turned out to be false), Abrams would work better with a stand alone story set in the Star Wars universe rather than the main feature. I don't want the next trilogy to be full of lens flare and male models.

Probably Spielberg. It's kind of hit and miss with him these days, but I bet he could make a good Star Wars movie. Unfortunately he declined. As well as Guillermo del Toro. I would have liked to see what he would have done.

There's someone I hadn't thought of.  Guillermo del Toro, hmmm...                ... He's not J.J. Abrahams for starts, so that's a huge improvement for starts.

Now that there is a lot of talk about Hammil, Ford, and Fisher returning for the next movie, has anyone changed their mind about it's potential?

I've never had doubts about this new triliogy. So I'm all cool with it. Hammil, Ford, and Fisher makes it all better.

I would love to see members of the original cast reprise their roles, but that doesn't necessarily change the movie's potential. James Earl Jones did come back to voice Vader in Revenge of the Sith(and uttered the now infamous "noooo!!!").

Although to Abrams credit, the Leonerd Nemoy cameo did work well in the new version of Star Trek.
