Since I don't get paid till next month, I'm trying to figure out when room deposits are due, and whether there's a chance or not of me getting one.
From last year's hotel site: "Please note that at check-in, your hotel will require full payment of your room and tax for all nights plus an additional deposit of up to $100.00 per room/per night. You may provide this with cash, a credit card, or a debit card (debit card not recommended)."
So you pay the deposit upon check-in.
For my hotel all payments are do at check-in. If I cancel with only a day or two I will be charged full price for one night only.
I will only pay $100 for the entire weekend for my room deposit, which is also due at check-in. I will get my deposit back in about a week on my credit/debit card.
I hope this helps. It is also best to call your hotel to see about their rules and process fo payments.
I heard from someone that the Fairmont is requiring their room deposits by the 1st of May, anyone know if that's true?

That doesn't sound right at all =/. All the other hotels don't take the deposit until you check in (unless you use cash or credit, in which case they do it at check out). If they did change their policy since 2010 (the last time I stayed there) to something that only they are doing, seems they should have made a note of it on the Housing website, or in your emailed reservation confirmation. I highly doubt it's true, but to double check, you should call the hotel directly and ask them. The number is (408) 998-1900.

This is not true. I've stayed in the Fairmont before, they take the deposit upon check in.
All hotels take deposits on the day you check-in, unless the hotels tells you otherwise.
