How much is parking near the convention center? Is there really a 6 hour limit or is there a special deal for the event?
http://www.sanjose.org/content/downtown-san-jose-parking-and-maps <--- These should apply if Fanime doesn't degotiate any deals. But I think they do negotiate a lower rate, but I don't remember what it is.
My group parked in the garage next to the con center last year for a flat rate of $20 a day I believe? Don't know if that happens every year but it was nice.
This is a great thread:

Please note that the rates have changed from last year, so you may want to confirm all info on there.
I've posted this a couple times, but here goes again.
I can personally vouch for this because I did this last year. If you plan on leaving Monday, then I would park at the parking garage where Psycho Donuts is. Since Monday is a holiday, parking is free. If you park Thursday, Friday, etc., and leave Monday, you will not have to pay anything when you leave since the parking gates will be left up.
I'm staying at the Hilton, but read in some feedback from last year that parking at the Hilton was completely full by Friday. I was wondering if you are allowed to keep your car overnight in the convention center's parking garage?
The Hilton's parking lot is pretty small, so it does fill up fast.
I'm not 100% sure of the conventions parking is open 24 hours, but all the other parking garages near by are.
Last year i saw a sign that was hidden into the back of the door that reads "parking special rates for fanime con users, buy multipass"
was abit surprise about it and took advantage of it, even though it was abit too late to noticed it (this was on saturday)
I contacted the San jose convention center garage and asked them if they would do the same and how much!...
sadly one of the employees said they wont be doing multipass / even pass for parking this year!..
Would like a second opinion if this is true or not.

The back of what door? Can you please PM me this information so we can get in contact with that garage and figure it out? (I have never heard of a multipass.)
I was wondering if there was any information regarding a parking discount for parking at the con center for the whole weekend. Last year I parked in the main convention center parking (since we stayed at marriott that has no parking other than valet) from Thursday afternoon till Monday. When we were leaving Monday, we went to the parking office in the con center parking area and they had a special $50 parking rate for that entire time. Will there be anything like that this year?

*bump*
Now that Staff is onsite, I am hoping something can be lowered...a speculative $10-12 thur-mon would be nice again.
Are there really no place to park for free around the convention center?

Sorry no free parking in downtown San Jose, that includes the convention center.
So was anyone else a dumbass like me and park in 488 Almaden's parking garage? Open M-F, no mention of being closed on holidays but... they are. -_-;; Car was stuck in there until Tuesday morning at 7. What an expensive mistake, I had to stay in San Jose another night :(
Nah. My buddy and I parked in 2nd street near the cinema building. But damn, that sucks though. :(
Wow... no-one knows about the free parking downtown??? I guess I'll keep it a secret :] I'll share for a price....

My friend did the free parking, too. We weren't sure if it would work since this was our first year trying it, but it did! (Only if you leave on Monday, though)...

Haha...gotta find me first! I wonder if the garage will figure this little loophole out soon, though.
Oh well, time to do this the Watch Dog's method... *draws out smartphone with multi-hacking purposes to track down the said free parking spot*

It's done on purpose. Not a loophole. Perfectly legit. Memorial day celebration or whatever. I always go to con uber early so I always get the best parking... I wonder why my car was covered in dust though... it was like either asbestous or tree fur or something...

It's even easier than all that. Just check out the 5th post on the first page of this thread. It's got the details. ;)
I also kind of don't want to go spreading the word because it'll suck to get there next year and have the place full...

But I don't think they intend for us to stay overnight for so many nights and leave without paying for the nights where it wasn't free...If that is the case and they figure it out, they could start citing cars or towing them. Anyway, I'd say for now to park there at your own risk.

I'm sure they know otherwise they wouldve picked up on it by now. My car was there since thursday morning at 7am til 530pm monday.

Both my friend and I commute to Fanime so we experimented with parking at another lightrail stop (one with a lot of free parking spaces - vta has a park & ride program (http://www.vta.org/services/park_ride.html)) and taking the lightrail from there and it was really great!!
There was far less walking to get there than most other lots, the lightrail ran until nearly 2am most nights (nearly 1am on sunday) so there wasn't much of an issue securing transportation back, the ride back was fast, and it only cost the lightrail fare where we parked.
If you park south of 280/680 most of the street parking doesn't require permits. You'll be about 3+ blocks from the con center, but it's not too bad if you want to save money.
Might not want to leave any valuables in the car though.
