Chibi=small
Otaku=Fanboy/Fangirl.
Bishie=short for bishounen(beautiful men) or bishoujo(beautiful women)

Wow, thanks for the help everyone. Maybe I should have named this thread "Anime Lingo Dictionary".
Theres tons more.. Pick up a book called "The Anime Companion" by Gilles Poitras. And once again he will be at Fanime. I should call hime Sensei Gilles. //BOW

That book is indispensible...and has that sweet-ass Lea Hernandez art. Rawr! XD
Ecchi - the manga version of hentai - Er.. I at least think so. @_@
I prefer my Japanese/English Put downs book that mah b/f has let me borrow for well over a year. I never use them, but they're funny to read.. I'll probably bring it to fanime if anyone wants to take a peek at it. :wink:
One of the funny ones is calling someone an old hag that looks like a badger.. or something like that.. You know, the Outlandish sorta stuff. :p
ip136: Close. Ecchi is a word used for anime/manga that's sexy and risque, but not quite hentai.

Oooooo. Got it. XD lol I must update mah brain. When I was first told what it was, the dude said "comic porn, instead of cartoon porn" lol bad matt. XD I must kick him one day. :p
The word "Ecchi" is really how the Japanese pronounce the letter "H", short for "Hentai".
ecchi is not just for anime and manga >:O
any type of perversion is related to that word.
-and for all the guys out there:
Hentai was origially a term that described gay men. Hen being the word odd and tai being attitude. :3

Really?o_0 There goes something I'd like to see at Fanime. *sigh*Only one more week...
Quote from: "KimaLucifer"ecchi is not just for anime and manga >:O
Got me there. At least I can take pride in knowing that I'm an ignorant American. ...^^;;
As long as I'm here, I'll add another term:
Seinen (is that the right spelling?) = manga/anime that's typically meant for older teens, young adults. *Yeah! Berserk!*
I get the general idea of what "Aya" means but what is the exact translation? :?
Oh and Yuri also is the name of a caracter from Comand & Conquer: Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge 8)
ohayo=good morning
konichiwa=good afternoon
anyone know what ganbatte means? kinda forgot ^_^'
Quote from: "Oneiros"anyone know what ganbatte means? kinda forgot ^_^'
"Go For It!" or something like that.
Quote from: "Kyle stabell"Oh and Yuri also is the name of a caracter from Comand & Conquer: Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge 8)
Because Yuri is also a male given name in Russia. XD

Quote from: "Oneiros"sooo... how would you say 'go for the beer!"?
That I'm not so sure of... XD
But lemme know if you find out, cos that would sound hella cool! ^_^d
Go for the beer. I don't know the slang for it but it would be:

A clip from a PTS Radio episode.
its funny that somehow u have Chibi and Yaoi in the same line...
2 totally different things...
unless its already been explained... Chibi refers to Sd aka super deformed where an anime chracter has a big head small body... the chracichers ( bad spelling )
and yaoi... thats a different can of worms ( totally bad metaphor ) basically this is like queer eye for the anime fan girl...
boys with boys, and very efeminate men... getting... intamite.. and i guess i should leave it at that... =P
I keep hearing a term that I'm unfamiliar with, and I'm hoping someone out there can give me a definition. The word is "sugoi"; I'm not sure if that's the correct spelling, since I've only heard it and never read it, but I generally hear it being exclaimed by perky energetic J-pop stars. Any help would be appreciated.
'wow!' or 'awesome!'
i think O_o
I just thought of a couple of other terms you guys might be able to help me with. First, what's the difference between DerCosplay and DasCosplay if any? Second, what was Gakufest? I'm thinking Musicfest, but I may be wrong. Finally, what does oro mean? I noticed Kenshin say this as I read through a couple of the mangas. Once again, thanks lots!
gaku means amount (of money) or picture frame ?
...oro means..(got this from a dictionary)
post-natal vag.... discharge :D
...i thought gaku was a shortened form of ongaku...the japanese word for music
Quote from: "DayDreamerNessa"'wow!' or 'awesome!'
i think O_o
Yep.. your right.
And DerCosplay and DasCosplay german. Think its "The"cosplay since its hosted by "Deter". If your old school like me youll know where "Deter" comes from. Saturday Night Live.
yah
sagoi = an expression of cool or awsomeness in our slang...
i think its always been
" der cosplay " refering to Deiter's chracter since he's some supposed german director of... stufff
and yah gaku fest = music fest...
pretty simple ne ?
Oro is the signature term coined by Himura Kenshin. It's used in the series in the same context as ano (translated to be roughly "umm...") and ara (used by girls only, same as ano but can also mean along the lines of "oh my"). I think the director used this term becuase he was known for using it in the same way or something like that. Forget exactly why. But, yea. There's your translation. Hope that helped.
As a side note/addition:
Kore wa... = This is...
Dame! = No!/Don't!
Itai = ouch
Quote from: "Charming_Dorian"...i thought gaku was a shortened form of ongaku...the japanese word for music
oh? it was shorten? I didn't know that....!
more words:
kokoro = heart
ike! = go
nan dayo = what!?
even tho i use it alot myself at ranodom times...
correct me since i'm probably wrong... but does anyone know the proper use of the word " ne " ?
i know some ppl that always end there sentances with the word " ne "
funny ne ?
go figure... :roll:
I think "ne" is roughly translated as "isn't it" or "is it not"
So when saying how nice the weather is it would be:
Ee otenkey des ne? (Roughly: good weather it is isn't it?
So des ne. (Roughly: So it is inst it.)
(yes my spelliing is bad :P )
"ne" also can be used when talking to about someone sorta like "aren't you" but I don't have an example (that I can spell anyways) off the top of my head.
So sugoi basically means "wow/awesome", huh? All right, cool. Thanks for all the help.
EDIT: Changed my def. Just cuz I can.
umm the person spelt it wrong what you said earlier 'sugoi' is how its spelt, i think it's awesome rather than wow though, but they kind of relate so its not that big of a deal
"Der Cosplay" and "Das Cosplay" - In german, "der" is the masculine form of "the" and "das" is the neuter form of "the". Non-german nouns used in the german language usually automatically take the neuter gender. Since "Cosplay" is a non-german noun it should be paired with neuter form: "Das Cosplay".
But, since Dieter is responsible for doing such a great job with "Der Cosplay", he can call it whatever the hell he wants. He could even call it "Die Cosplay", if he felt so inclined.
I doubt Cosplay will ever " die... "
and neither will Deiter... ^_^ remember he has a rabid fan club that im sure will protect him from everything...
well, cept for Pikachu... :roll: that thing is insane...
In this instance the "die" is pronounced like the letter D, exactly as it is in Dieter!
(sigh) the whole "der das die" thing was gone over three years ago. It works for its intended purspose.
Think of MST3K "forget about the science facts...just sit back and relax"
Thanks! I didn't know what Yaoi meant so I was so confused when people where taking about it.
