Title: Gun Alternatives
Post by: auxois on February 27, 2015, 11:05:19 PM
So since even a gutted airsoft gun is out of the question apparently. What is a good alternative to get some accuracy for a cosplay? Cause I was told a lot of Deadpool cosplayers were carrying airsoft pistols and no one batted an eye. So any ideas?

For handguns, I like to use water guns. It's a lot easier than trying to make one from scratch, and it can look pretty decent. That's what I'm holding here (http://www.cosplay.com/photo/3363135/). It was originally bright yellow, but was then painted black, as it is very difficult to find water guns that look like actual guns and aren't brightly colored these days. (This particular gun is even more fun, since the water is stored in magazines that are removable. I've never seen that in a water gun before, but it certainly adds to the realism. It was bought at the Walgreen's down the street from the con back in 2009 or so.)

As long as the gun isn't filled with water or any other liquid and the moving parts (the trigger mainly) are glued in place, you should be fine. (Obviously, the orange tip needs to stay intact.) You'd have to check with the peacebonding department if a particular gun will be okay, but I haven't had any problems getting mine approved.

You can still use your gutted airsoft for off-con shoots, I would assume.

I might as well send the airsoft gun back. I can very easily gut it, the only thing heavy about it is the clip and the grip of it but it is fairly light but now I'm in the process of returning it. I'll probably do the water gun idea. As long as I can find one similar to yours in the picture. Thanks.

think of the weight of it being less than a 1 litre bottle of soda, and the weight should be fine. As for alternative places to find things such as his water gun, During the summer, beginning of fall toy stores have them out the wazzu and can be pretty cheap in the fall.

I doubt that you are going to find that exact same gun that I have again (unless you get lucky and Walgreens still sells it -- according to Google, it was still around in 2011, so maybe it's something they stock regularly?), but if you search up "realistic water gun" or "realistic squirt gun" you can find a bunch of options, some of which need to be painted, some of which are already gun-colored.
