Question:
do you think hentai gives anime a bad name?
Option 1: yes
votes: 12
Option 2: no
votes: 24
I have gone on several sites for general anime and I have noticed a few complants that in my opinion is the result of hentai and I think hentai gives the rest of anime a bad name and should be in any way made to clearly show that anime is NOT just 18+(not just hentai)
i agree. even one of my misinformed art teachers made the rash statement that "anime... it's porn for kids"
and he's worked and is still working in the film industry.... though only with American studios apparantly. i just wish people weren't so close-minded and jump to such quick conclusions...
it's only the outcome of ignorance. Some people assume that anime is either porn or childs entertainment, which is ignorance because, in most cases wont look into it to find out for themselves, and stick with there first assumption.
proof of that my sister -_-'
However, for people who aren't closed-minded, the existence of both hentai and children's programming is an advantage, showing the versatility of the anime medium. One of the results of anime being versatile is that people can and do make all sorts of shows with it.
People who are so vehemently against all anime will be biased against anime whether hentai exists or not. If they're not condemning the sex, they'll pick apart the violence, the plot, the "unreality", the "childish" art, the fact that the characters aren't played by real people, the cultural contamination by the Japanese invasion, the demonic symbolism, the merchandizing opportunities by the evil money-making corporations, the subliminal efforts of Japanese Big Media to make American children worship the Japanese overlords in revenge for WWII, etc. I've heard very many really strange anti-anime arguments... and "Japan is using anime as revenge for WW2" is no more valid than "all anime is about sex and violence". And, really, live action is a versatile medium too, and there are even more examples in live action of anything "bad" they want to pick apart.
I find that a lot of anti-anime activists seem to be just very sad, sad people. While I think that it's fine for them to dislike anime, some of these people seem to be so bored that they have nothing better to do than to argue vehemently from a position of utter cluelessness against someone else's preferred form of entertainment. A "no thanks, not my thing" would be fine. Those long tirades against anime simply show that the writer desperately needs to watch more anime.
;)
People need to realize that anime is a viable artistic and entertainment medium for any type of material. If there can be live-action porn, I don't see why there cannot be hentai.
I think oversized cosplayers give anime more bad name than anything else. Just imagine 7year old girl and her family had to see some weird guy dressed in sailor suit.....

That's a completely different issue.

Well put. I couldn't agree more.
Revenge for WW2? How pathetic.
No.
If there's flesh on flesh, there can sure be pixel-on-pixel. >_>;

Seriously. It's this very apparent disgust and "weirdness" that is attatched to the anime-watching individual. If one has a few pictures of anime, they are suddenly obsessed perverts that only like anime and nothing else whatsoever. I mean, anime fans are people too...they DO other things (once in a while, I'm sure...heh  ) But there is such stimatism attatched to anime, its almost always coupled with or synonomous with weird, strange, uncool or childish. However, like stated before, there is always going to be something wrong with it. Us fans just have to learn to deal with the arguments and hostilities. Some people are just curious. Just launch into a tirade about your favorite anime scene and the intacracies of this scene and how it effects the overall plot and theme of the anime and most people's eyes will glaze over and walk away. It's worth it just to see their reaction. (heh heh heh)
:D
BUGGER! I can never get the quote thing to work right...!!!!

Your quote looks right. If I quote your quote, it works. (Demo above...) Make sure that "Disable BBCode in this post" is
not checked.
Nah, not really. Hey, what you like, you like. Ya can't help that.
I really hate it when people don't find Anime art. I knew a art teacher that didn't and it burned, but I did the real art stuff, and then she wondered why my other stuff looked bright. I only shock my head. I just find that some people have not watched it and are closed minded. I have a friend who loves a lot of my wallscrolls of Vampire Hunter D. I told her it was anime and she was like gross.... anyways I just wanted to place in my two cents.

could any one tell me why or how this thread was split?
It's because everyone has their own opinion about Hentai and it's affect on the populous.

oops posted on the rong thred
How I feel about Hentai is pretty much the same thing I feel about alot of things... If you don't like it, stay away from the subject... if you don't like others enjoying it because you have an opinion about it, mind your business and find a hobby.

I dont really think that hentai would give anime a bad name, unless its the first anime that youve heard of, but most of us started with CCS, SM, or pocket monsters, right? and i totally agree with you, person before me. TOTALLY.

thats right, most cosplayers like to retain at least a shred of their pride.
Does hentai give anime a bad name?
Does France hate Bush?
most hentai anime are dating games, or doujinshi. So ive heard.
Hentai is Porn.
So...ya know. Not all people LIKE porn....necessarily...
...I could very well see someone getting the wrong idea about anime through seeing a hentai, yes. And i could very well see someone getting the wrong idea about anime seeing evangelion and hellsing, ya know the whole "JAPAN VS. GOD" end of the world stuff.
So i guess...depending on the WEIRDNESS of the anime (porn or not) that could set off emergency flashers.
but hey, art is art. even freaky...demon......scary art.
i LIKE freaky demon scary art! demons are cool! *reads too too much inuyasha*
Guess I'll toss in something written by John at Animenation (http://www.animenation.net/news/askjohn.php?id=863) (gotta respect the guy).

Hentai anime and H-games/doujinshi are of different mediums. I'm assuming this thread only covers the scope of animated hentai of which there are volumes in itself.
oh okay. ^_^;
Once while I was at school, a meeting of the Anime club was announced and the guy behind me said "isn't that just like, porn?"... some people are so clueless, and so very insensitive....
Hentai is just a type of anime, like porn is a type of live-action movie...
There's nothing wrong with it, but it can be misinterpreted.
if someone already said this, a box of pocky to you*
*may be redeemed starting fanime 2k55
damn! i have to wait till 2055!?
i agree and like others have previously stated if you dun like it, dun watch it
