I'm not sure if this has been asked/answered yet, but how much would it cost for parking at the Marriot if you are staying there?
It'll be there for the duration of Fanime and I'm planning to go in and out with it. Can anyone help?
The convention center has their own parking garage, which is $10 a day, regardless of hotel guest or not. Around Downtown San Jose, there are several parking garages that are free on weekends and weekdays after 6pm. You can also park at a light rail station with a Park & Ride lot free and take the light rail to and from the convention center.
My guess is that parking won't be an issue if you follow directions and identify the free lots, but parking will be much harder when the Sharks continue their playoff run by then.
Go Sharks!
I've heard mutterings that it's better to do hotel parking even though it's more expensive if you have any intention of taking your car out at any time. If only because the con center doesn't have in/out privilege, and the hotels do.
Can someone verify hotel parking with in/out privileges?
I called and confirmed with The Marriott Hotel:
$21 Dollars a Day with In and Out priviledges.
I only checked Marriott because Ill be staying there but I would assume the Hilton operates similarly being the neighboring adjacent Hotel.
I have a parking trick I learned last year.. Park in the free parking garages in the area. But If you get there on Thursday like I will you have to pay if you leave.. Its only free nights and weekends. So I plan to be there all weekend and im not moveing the car,, so get there thursday, and leave on monday when its free parking. They leave the parking gates open that day. So I pay nothing! Hope it works again.

I encountered this problem at Otakon, but I'm not sure if it applies here.. do you know if the garages lock up at night? I recall getting locked out of our car during the wee hours of the morning.
I know from experience that the Hilton has free in/out privilages. Don't know the exact price, but they have both regular do it yourself and valet parking, with different prices for each. 18 seems to come to mind, for some reason.

There is metered parking on both sides of the street from the convention and even a small public parking lot across the street from the convention center which is about 8 bux a day I think, someone correct me if im wrong but Im pretty sure its about price. Of course this is dependant on what time you show up as it has a tendency to fill up quick. Unfortunately parking just about anywhere can be sparse being that its Dowtown San Jose on Memorial Weekend.

This sounds like a really good idea! With the link you provided of the free parking areas, it seems there is one right near the convention center. I'll be arriving there early morning on Thursday. When you park there, won't they give you a ticket to see how long it has been there though? Are you allowed to put things into your car after it has been parked?
Hmm...or I could just park in the hotel parking until after 6pm and just leave after 6pm on Monday... But I still need to ask if the free parking areas check for cars that they know have been there for a LONG time...

Yea.. they give you a ticket but last year on monday they turned the ticket machines off so you dont need to pay for your ticket.. The parking gates to leave the garage was open all day. Yea, you can return to your car and put stuff in but you dont have in and out priv. I would park near the San Jose Repertory Theatre and walk 3 blocks. The one near the con is too small and fills up fast.
^
Thank you drallcome! I'll probably write down a couple of the free parking areas just in case they get filled up, but hopefully the one near the convention center has vacancy by the time I get there.

lolitadesu, the free parking areas definition of weeknights free parking time is 6:00 P.M. Enter the free parking lots after 6:00 P.M. and parking is free $-)

I checked with Google Earth and that parking lot right next to the con is verry small.. I counted about 50 parking spots. I would park where I do at the E. San Carlos st/ S. 3rd st garage. Think its 5 levels. Its your best bet for parking and its a quick 3 block walk. Its allso across the street from a Mc Donalds.
@ININ
Yeah, I'll probably do that. I like the thought of not having to get a ticket in the first place because they might open the ticket meters when I leave...
I guess that means I will have to park at the hotel or convention center lot until 6PM (since I'll be arriving early Friday morning) and then I'll drive over to park at the free parking area.
@drallcome
I'm going to park there! It seems much more safer to park there since there are more levels and I'm guessing they won't check so hard seeing as to how many cars there are there. The one near the convention center seems much more guarded and dangerous.
Again thank you for your help!

I know that the Marriot charges $21 a day as someone kindly confirmed for us a few posts back, but what about if you are only going to park there for about 8-9 hours? Would it be cheaper to park at the convention center? (I don't need in/out priv.)
Shure..NP.. I deal with driveing and parking for my job.

Yes, park at the convention center. It's $10.00 flat fee.
Here's a thought. If you know someone staying at either the Marriott or Hilton, ask them for the in/out parking pass. I'm guessing hotel guests get a reduced parking fee. *Hee, hee*
^
I'm already staying at the Marriot... :? Hahaha so I'm not sure how that works.
So it's $21 a day for Marriot hotel guests with in out privilages. How much for no in/out privileges?
I don't think there's a choice as to whether you have in/out privilages or not. I think you just do, and it's a flat fee.
:x GRRRR!!!! $21 a day!!!
I'll just haul all my stuff into the hotel from one of the free parking lots!
Wait is the convention center parking $10 a day or $10 for the weekend?
^
$10 a day. :(
What if I park in Public parking on Friday before 6 pm and leave like at 9 pm - will I have to pay? Or nobody going to be at the gates at that time??? Or will they make me pay when I park? I only went to Fanime during weekend, so I always parked near by in Public Parking Garage, this year I am going Friday afternoon as well, so I was just wondering...

I think you have to pay the hours before the free parking takes effect after 6 p.m, so you will pay for the 1st 3 hours then it is free. I hope I'm right on this.

Hilton parking was $14 a night and I thought that was expensive.. sheesh Marriot parking is too $$ and that is on top of it being valet only ie tipping the valet.
When I parked my car inside the convention friday and took it out monday afternoon, the grand total was 30.50. To me it was steep as HELL (compared to 10 bucks last year ;_; ) but to hear others had to pay far more, damn! Good piece of advice: if you're gonna go to Fanime, carpool with at least someone else, so the price doesnt seem that high.
That parking lot, if memory serves me right, can take about...700-800 vehicles at last check from a eye view. I could be wrong.
Suggestion for next year - I know this is gonna be a big pain in the arse, but is there a way to lower parking prices?
Tthe convention center parking was $10 a day which is not bad. There is a lot right across the street from the con that is $5 a day BUT you have to go and buy a single day pass each day (it lasts till midnight).
I didnt get there early enough friday so I had a parking ticket on my car. So I said f*** it and moved my car into the convention center parking.
So.. parking this year?
I've parked at the same lot every year for three years and it's been about $5 bucks a night, but I get really sick of having to go back and forth every night to renew it.
Does anyone know how much the convention center parking will cost this year? The convenience of not having to shove money into a machine at midnight every night seems worth the extra money this year.

It has info on parking for all the hotels and convention center. Looks like it will be 10 bucks a day again for the convention center parking. Only $12.50 this year for the Marriot with in/out privliges... since I am staying there that could be cool.
If you need access to your car though for storage, etc. I would recommend the convention center parking lot.
for some reason I remember Ive always paid like 19$ a night for parking in the marriot garage and now I know that vallet will be cheaper 12.50 even if I have to tip so I'm doing that this year, also parking at the hotel you are sleeping at makes it so much nicer!! when I went to Dollectable in 2008 (it was in downtown SF) it was a big hassle when we parked just a couple blocks away, we had to haul all our luggage all the way to the hotel and it was a hassle to get out when we left, we had to wait at the garage entrance for the person to get there to let us in! so after that I definately think that the convienence of parking in the hotel is worth the extra money, especially when they just add it to your hotel bill ^^
Ok I am really on a limited budget lol... I LOVE Fanime, can not pass it up. Is there any parking? Free would be rad...
http://www.sjdowntownparking.com/parking_map.html is a really good resource for this. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing any free parking that is close. :(
you WILL NOT find free parking. Even if u do, be sure it doesnt require some kind of permit.
ok :/ thanks...
I can hitch a ride with a friend or something, or possibly take public transit no problem at all lol.

$12.50/night. If you booked under the fanime price.
I live pretty close to the con (around a 30 minute drive), so I won't be living at a hotel, but this is my first time driving there (as opposed to a parent dropping me off). I was wondering where I could find parking, and how much it would cost.
Thanks :]
I think there's public san jose parking, like in the convention center...but I'm not sure how much it'd be if you're not staying in a hotel...
there is a wealth of information in this thread, all you need to do is dig through the 3 pages of it.
I do believe you pay a little more for IN and OUTS. It is really hard to find a GOOD parking spot. Good Luck all.
Several parking lots are free on weekends and that Monday (Memorial Day) from 6am-6pm, and most are $3 after that.
Make sure you get your ticket validated for a huge savings on parking.
If you park at the convention center itself or the 3rd St. Garage (aka the one across the McDonalds) get your ticket validated at the Tech Museum to make your ticket $5 flat rate instead of hourly.
If you park at the Market Safeway, buy something at Safeway and get your ticket validated for 2 hours free.
If you park at the Pavilion movie theater parking, validate it by buying a ticket at the Camera 12 theaters.
Other good parking lot tips:
-behind the convention center at the big blue tent and the lot along Almaden Ave at the old Ernst & Young building is $7 flat all day
-next door to McDonald's $6 flat (cash only)
-SJSU's 4th street garage $8 day but may be free on some days because of graduation ceremonies
thanks for the tips :]
also, is it difficult to find parking spaces?
would I have to go early or anything to ensure a parking spot without circling for a long time, or is it okay for me to go a bit later into the day when things are more busy and still find parking (the parking that is cheaper, like free on weekends and $3 after 6pm)?

For parking in these lots, do people leave their cars there overnight for the duration of the con or do they have to go in and out every day?
Does the $10-a-day flat fee still apply to the convention center garage? If so, would it cover the hours after 6PM but before midnight?

Can someone verify this? I got my e-mail from the Marriott e-mail reminder system and it shows that Valet Service is $25/day and it does show im booked under the "FANIME" block.

thats odd, because this is how my e-mail reads:

Total for stay (for all rooms) XXX.XX
* Off-site parking, fee: 3 USD hourly, 18 USD daily
* Valet parking, fee: 25 USD daily
* Changes in taxes or fees implemented after booking will affect the total room price
could someone from Cmr staff verify? or should i send an e-mail?
got a bounce back on my e-mail :P oh well i guess ill find out come start of the Con.

Really? last year I didn't get charged, I didn't even get a extra charge.
Then you skipped out on the bill. If you park yourself you're supposed to get stopped at the toll booth to pay for your stay. Otherwise you can pay at the front desk when you check out.
Idk I didn't charged or arrested so I'm happy, I'll post again at con to tell whether or not i stole it.

What is this ticket for which you speak?
Is it the Parking Ticket?
So I can go to the Tech Museum, and buy a Ticket to park at the Convention center garage for $5?
I found a very cheap, 5$ flat rate all day parking on Woz Way, across from the children's discovery museum. It's a fair walk to the con(maybe 10 mins or so), but well worth it if you need a 5$ flat rate place.
I think the $12.50 price at the Marriott wasn't too bad. I always stay there. Valet is nice in that you don't have to go look for a parking spot on your own.
I dont really know is this the right thread to post about parking but its sorta Hotel related.
So I was wondering where i can find the parking rate for the hotels or the convention parking
I am staying in the Marriot. And i think i remember i park in the convention center parking last year because it cheaper. Doesn't anyone know/remember the rate of the convention center's compared to the hotel?
Thank you it'll help a lot!:)
Last year at the Marriot it was 12.50/day if you were a con attendee.
I'm sure if you go to the San Jose Marriott's website it will list the parking rate. You might also want to check Fanime Housing's site to see if they have a special deal for convention attendees. (You'll find it under Special Offers and Promotions if they're offering any deals.)
For reference, it's all in the two right-most columns (first is valet, second is self-park):

I've never tried parking there at that hour, but it shouldn't be bad. The center is pretty calm at those hours, and likely those who live in the area have already gone back home by then. I don't think you'll have much of a problem snagging a spot.
^ I hope so, cuz that's what I'm gonna do this year
Could someone help me clarify this please?
According to other posts on this thread, if you park at the E. San Carlos St/ S. 3rd St garage (aka the one across the McDonalds) you can get your ticket validated at the Tech Museum to make your ticket cost just a $5 flat rate instead of hourly. How exactly do you go about getting your ticket validated? Do you have to buy something from the museum, and if so does anyone know how much it costs? And is this garage a different one from the Third Street Garage at 95 N. Third St., just north of Santa Clara Street?
Also, I just need parking from 6pm until 10pm on Day 0 so I was wondering if anyone knew any better parking spots near the con that are maybe cheaper? (exact addresses would be loved since I could just input them into my GSP) I've looked here (http://www.sjdowntownparking.com/free_parking.html) but I'm unfamiliar with the SJ area and can't seem to make much sense of their maps. ^^;
Well thanks in advance for any help given, it's much appreciated!

Yes, park at the convention center. It's $10.00 flat fee.
Here's a thought. If you know someone staying at either the Marriott or Hilton, ask them for the in/out parking pass. I'm guessing hotel guests get a reduced parking fee. *Hee, hee*

Hi, I've never been to this convention before.
Has anyone ever tried parking at San Jose State? If I pay for the regular parking fee at the university, can I leave my car there without getting towed away?
