Look for the Official Fanime 2008 Cosplay Gatherings List Thread!

Well, there were some last minute gatherings that weren't updated onto the list when you had left, so a lot of people missed a few gatherings, so I suppose that was a problem.

Seconded, missed my gathering... :cry:

The CLAMP one was 12 Noon but people forgot it was at Noon and NOT at 1 PM, so the group came out very very small ;__;

what were the gatherings you guys missed???

I only had a few gathering that interested me, so I was able to find and make it to them. I'm not sure if there was a list of all the gatherings on Fanime.com Cosplay forums, but I think there should be one because it's easier for everyone.

Like someone like BSapphire should be in charge of looking in every 2007 Gathering thread and then compose of a full list. Then that list will be put up onto a sticky. I found a list like that on BSapphire's website, but I don't think there was one on here. It was very convenient for me. :D

I'm sorry to hear that the gathering was small. I checked on that and this is what I found.... I had marked it in blue which ment that someone on cosplay.com posted me about the gathering. I went there and this is what I found from LadyAxum on the 15th of May...
"The CLAMP Gathering Shall be on Sunday at 12 by the fountains in front of the convention center"

Again, I am sorry that it was very small. My hopes were to get a few people to attend the gatherings that didn't know about them. I will see if there is anything different I can do to make this better for next year.

SakuraNeko, I agree. I started posting deadlines in early May in hopes of getting as much accurate information as possible. I posted in my threads (the gathering threads/sticky on both forums) that I had done all I could do for updates and I had sent it off along with lots of other info to get done for con. At that point I could not change the info on the List that I was going to have around con.

I should let all the cospeeps know that I did not constantly research the different gathering threads like last year. Youko helped me last year to do that. She and I were swamped with costuming & consignments among work and many other things. I did try to get on and look through a few. I managed to reach some of the gatherings that had incomplete info and finalize their information on the list.

Do you have any suggestions? I know that I am pushing to get the list in with the programs so that I know each person has their own copy. I don't care if it is a pocket guide placed in the bag along with the program that you get at registration (AND I WOULD MUCH PREFER THIS) but something would be better than nothing. In order for this to happen the deadlines must be met. It takes many people to get a program like Fanime's done, and that is not even including the printers ^^). I would not want Our Gatherings List to delay that process in any way.

Appologies to you also, 100% BEEF, I didn't want anyone to miss their gathering. In reverse I know how that feels.

I was not able to shoot all the gatherings because there isn't enough of me to go around. I only hope that at least one professional photog was able to make all the gatherings I was not able to.
(Sorry Trigun ^^) I heard that EBK made it and then I heard he didn't. I only cosplayed on Sunday and it took forever to get into costume. I was pretty sure that at least one of the photogs I know would have been there with all those smexy Vashes & Wolfwoods running around *giggle... where is Merle? Glad I got those shots on Friday though ^^)

Thanks scyper15 for the vote of confidence. If you found it on my website *Yeah!!! then you got that information because of the threads on the forums. I posted the list in my Fanime section and a downloadable copy on my front page.

I tried to do what you thought last year. Youko maintained the threads on the Fanime forums and I did the Cosplay forums. That was a huge amount of time and you have no idea how many posts that includes reading. By making the thread and having them stickied we cut the time down, but we still researched as many of the threads as possible.

This year I would occasionally go through and post in the threads, but doing both forums myself with my other demands was still very time consuming.

Maybe it would be a good idea to get together with the people at Stage 0. I heard them make several announcements and it might be worth having them announce gatherings when they're going on and where.

Yeah, it is very time consuming to go through all the threads. So let's make a sticky that says "All Gatherings for 2007 Sign Up Here" or something. Then only the leader of each of their gatherings are allowed to sign up. Like I will reply in that thread saying :

Death Note Gathering 2007
Location: Blah
Time: Blah
Day: Blah

Then a mod can update the first post of that thread with the info provided. That way, it'll be easier than going through every single thread. Sorry if this idea was already proposed. X_X

This is an excellent idea!  And if the thread could be updated by the leaders up to at least Friday night (there weren't any gatherings on Friday, were there?  If so, then the updates could be done up to Thursday night) so anyone able to get onto the forum would have an updated list of gatherings.  I think BSaphire was able to update up to the 24th and appreciate the updated list.  Having copies of the list posted at BOTH con information desks would be great, too, then if there were any changes to the list that had to be made (hopefully none) maybe the leaders of the gatherings could update right at the tables.

I didn't see copies of the gatherings at the info tables ....  But having announcements at Stage Zero would be nice.  Maybe just before the half hour (if it's not interrupting whatever show/panel is on) say: The Eva gathering is at the fountains in 5 minutes.

Hey, maybe we could get the announcements also made in the dealers room?  Only I'd give it 10 minutes instead of 5 to give everyone a chance to get their shopping done and get out of the dealers room.

I am sorry that I was not able to help my mother this year. I had lots of work with costumes and on top of that a very timely, hard working job. I still feel as though everything is spinning.  :-&

This year I will be taking on the cosplay.com end of the gathering list. I hope to do a good job. See you all next year.

Yes there were gatherings on Friday, with a pretty good turn out for the ones I shot..^^) I heard from some that they knew I wasn't able to update after the 24th so they checked through both forums and read the posts to see if there were any changes. Most changes happened in the particular gathering thread so they alread knew before me. Some never posted the change on mine, they just posted it within the thread. I would like to have a white board with sleaves for the gathering to be placed in for both info tables next year. I will try to have some abilities at con with the gathering list for next year. I too want the updates on there and I might just find someone to undertake keeping this current during con (both the lists at the table and the lists on the forums.)

I know that Friday the list was very accessable. I know that the list was packed up with the stuff from the info table so as not to get misplaced. If it had stayed out (since it could not be taped down) the list might have grown legs of it's own and tried to see the con from somewhere else ^^). When I asked about "Stage 0" I was told that there was no place to put the list and that they couldn't help me. I too thought that it would be a prime location and an announcement would have been awesome!!! I will see if it is possible next year. I don't know about the dealers room though. It get's pretty noisy in there. I don't know if anyone would hear it. If "Stage 0" announced it then the chances of some cospeeps in the dealers room finding out would be greatly increased, if only by word of mouth.

Kind of what I have been doing. I always use my post on page 1 of a thread to keep all updates, wheather a gathering or gatherings list. This way they can go to page one and find the info.

When info on a gathering is posted I request: Who {Joe Annon Gathering}, When {Saturday}, Meeting Place {2nd floor convention lobby entrance}, Location {Fountains in Front of the Convention}. The guidelines and info needed for the list is posted at the top of the list post in my thread. Sometimes gatherings are done outside of the forums and I get emails and or PM's to be included. Don't be sorry about proposing and idea. I appreciate your thoughts and I know you are trying to help ^^).

Well I have been running this poll on the Fanime forums and the Cosplay.com/Fanime forum. Combined to date there are 44 votes... but it has received over 422 views and 18 posts combined.

Call me crazy... ok Deviant ^^) but those #'s don't match up with the poll results. SO again I want to encourage you to vote and give me your feed back, good or bad. My goal is to make the 2007 list better and more available than ever before!

Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated ^^)

Itachi no Jutsu & zoupzuop2: Thank you for your energy!! I would like to suggest that you check and see if someone has started a 2007 thread for either a Ranma 1/2 or HunterXHunter gathering. There is a good chance that the HXH gathering may get incorporated into the 2007 "Jump" gathering since HXH is a "Jump" release. If there isn't a thread already started (be sure and search the old ones too) go ahead and start a new one or revive the old one.

I'm sad about the CLAMP gathering confusion  :(   I stayed at the CLAMP between 12:00 and 12:20 and rushed to change to participate in the Full Metal Alchemist gathering at 12:30.

The Yami no Matsuei gathering this year was really small . . .

A listing would actually be really convenient... but what I'd fear would be those who create gatherings, sign them up, and neglect them until they forget about them completely. x.x;

Oh Yeeeess!  I mean,  aayyyyeeeee, mateys!  Of course, we also want to coordinate it with the One Piece gathering, either before or after so it's more convenient for those cosplayers.  Having a centralized list will help with that.

I'm trying to make sure the thread stays active, also, but since I've been traveling more for work, it's hard to keep logging in to the site.   :(

I wanted to say Thank You to everyone who has voted and given their input on how to make the Offical Gatherings list a bigger success next year. I also want to say thank you BuntOfGov for keeping it alive ^^).

Here's the lowdown so far...

Seems as though everything that could financially go wrong in a 60 day time period seems to have happened in my life ... *sigh.. but, on the up side ...

I will have the gatherings list in plastic on a white or blue board.
The boards will be at different locations around the convention.
I will start the gatherings list around the end of January begining of February.
I am currently working on how to get the pocket version for the gathering list.

Here is the list of people/places that the list boards were best located...

locations for 2007 will be anounced later next year when things are more finalized.

On another note...
Youko Kurama and I announced to several people who asked about commissions if we could do costumes or pieces for next year. In reply to any who wondered... We are Not currently taking any consignments. We are booked from Yaoi con to Sakura Con with one of the biggest projects to date. If we complete it on time then we will look at consignments for Fanime on a To Be Discussed basis. If all goes well everyone will get to see this project on stage at Fanime 2007 if not sooner.

As for the pics... I have been really busy. From co emcc with redheadcosplay.com at the Sac Anime Con on July 15 to trying to get more income in my home. Life has been a little crazy ^^). I don't have everything done and what I do have is too much to upload from this location. So, when it is done I will let everyone know.

Thank you again for your input, your kindness and well wishes that I have received in the last 60 days... It has ment more to me than anyone will ever know.

There was only one gathering that I was interested in this year, and I knew where to be because of the Fanime boards and seeing the list at the info desk.  EBK then was helpful because he found my friends and I waiting for the gathering and let us know it had changed location.

BSaphire, you did a really good job.  I'm just chiming in to nominate you to be in charge of the list of gatherings for next year, too.  That is, of course, if you want to be.

We need to someone to be there a help people out by telling them the time and place of a gathering, I did that through half of the con this year. I would do it again, and I'm bring back my Final Fantasy 7 gathering.

I just wanted to let everyone know.... I will be posting the gatherings list in several locations on the web this year and placing boards in key locations around the convention.

Umm I am asumming this is where you find out where gatherings are... I was wondering where adn if there is going to be a Saiyuki gathering at Fanime 07? There was one last year and not many showed up but this year there should more because I am making some of my freinds cosplay Saiyuki ^-^

Quick question:  I seem to remember that the gatherings took place on all four days of the con, mostly between 11:00am and 4:30ish.  Would there be a problem with a gathering at 10:30am?  I think the dealer room opened at 10:00am and some of the panels started then or earlier, but I don't see why we can't have a gathering before 11:00?

This from an early-bird person.  Even if I'm up late the night before (or even into the a.m.) I try to get up before 7:00am.

This from an early-bird person.  Even if I'm up late the night before (or even into the a.m.) I try to get up before 7:00am.

That is a good question BunofGovt. I normally start my times @ 10 am. What I have found is that the photographers are not always available for earlier gatherings and not all cosplayers get up and ready before 10 am.

This year I didn't have time to attend all of them, and for 2007 I have some key cosplay I am doing. In 2005 I spent most of Fanime outside shooting the gatherings. I ended up sunburned and exhausted. For 2006 I attended gatherings that I was requested to shoot, which freed up more time, but with my business requirements there really wasn't enough time to really enjoy all that Fanime offered.

So as you schedual your gatherings consider the number of people you know are guarenteed to attend. The big gatherings like Naruto, Bleach, Final Fantasy and Jump take afternoon spots because of so many people and they need time to change costumes to attend. When you have 50 to 100 people attend the gathering then you know that the photogs are going to be there.

Smaller gatherings don't normally conflict with time overlap and the photographers try to make it to two or three that are being held at the same time and location.

So I have the times up and some slots are going too. Please only send me info that is complete and agreed upon by your majority. If you want a gathering to happen then do a search through the first ten pages of the cosplay thread and see if someone has started one for this year (NOTE* The date that the thread was started could read June 1, 2006 or later because some peeps get started on next year right after con)

As I update I will post here if you've been added. At the bottom of the list is a section called "Gatherings that need to be confirmed" if your gathering or a gathering you are planning to attend ends up there your gathering may not end up on the final list. I will do my best to move ya, slot ya, and put you on the final copy. If I know of another forum that is running the same gathering I may post a coment in your thread to let you know so someone can make sure to include each other.

OK... with all that said.... here is the disclaimer... Gatherings are subject at all times to cancel, move, or change @ con due to they are not schedualed around most of Fanime's main events.

This means that gathering ABC @ 11am on tuesday @ the fountains in front may move because "John Smith" voice actor for ABC character "J" is having a panel at that time and everyone is going there and they will hold the gathering after the panel.

This happens, but what sucks is when the panel is over and they changed their time to 1 pm. They all meet up out there and there is this Huge gathering and the photogs are all over there shooting that gathering.
With that said....

Ouran High School Host Club Gathering is going to be at 2PM Friday and 4PM Sunday. :D

The Bleach gathering has been confirmed for 12 on Sunday - we'll be joining up with the Jump gathering afterwards ^^

General Final Fantasy Gathering
Like Ouran, we decided to have it on two days to accommodate those who have Saturday commitments.

The first will take place on Friday @ 3pm (Fountains), and the second on Saturday @ 2:30pm (Fountains).

If anyone has something organized or disagrees, please post it. Otherwise... last year it just didn't happen. This will change that fact as such.

Should I organize a gathering first in a separate thread, then request the time and place here?

The first thing I would recommend is to search through cosplay and see if there has been a thread started. Though there are quite a few listed and active, many were previously started and will be reactivated in the coming weeks.

If you don't find the series or subject that you would like to form a gathering with then Yes :) by all means, start a thread and see who is out there and interested in joining. After you get three or more people together, start talking about setting a gathering day, time, meeting place, and location. Be patient because in the next month many of the cospeeps that will be attending Fanime will start searching through the cosplay forum to check it all out.

If you do not get a lot of response, don't worry. It takes only three to make a gathering, but there are lots of people who are not on the Fanime fourms, Cosplay.com forums etc. Some talk on Live Journal, Deviant Art, Myspace, and other sub or con forums about attending. You might just be surprised by who shows up because the read it somewhere else. ^^)

When you get a group of really interested cospeeps and have decided your info then post that info back here so that it can be added to the list. Please make sure it is complete though. If your gathering ends up on the "Unconfirmed" section and I don't receive the info by the deadline then it will not end up on the list posted at con.

If you are cosplaying from a particular genere.... say from FF and you can make it to the FF gathering then please go :P Part of the reason why I do this thread is to let the cosplayers know where and when the gatherings are so that more can attend :) You might want to find the thread that was started on the gathering you want to go to and let them know, but you don't have to.

By May, there will be some gatherings that will start to overlap and share the same time and even the same area. When it is a gathering of over 60 that becomes an issue because most of the photogs are at the large gathering. Smaller gatherings (2 or even 3) at the same time is normally ok. Who knows what next year will bring, but I know that I have helped by doing this list and I truely hope that this year is the best yet!

Version 4.1 is UP! I won't be updating for about a week while I am gone to Sakura Con. Go ahead and leave your post and I will look for ya when I get back! Have a Great Spring BREAK!

Hey. How goes it? I'm new here and I was wondering, with Fanimecon only a month away, is it too late to schedule more gatherings or can at least a few more at the time being be scheduled? I'm gonna be attending Fanimecon for the first time this year and if gatherings can still be scheduled, I was thinking of scheduling one for Tales cosplayers if there aren't any Tales gatherings currently scheduled.

I only found the KOF gathering but not GGX gathering.

GREAT NEWS Fanime cospeeps!
After heading up the gatherings list for the last three years I had a couple of things I wanted to make better this year. One of my ideas was to have some sort of a risor platform for the gatherings. This is so that the people in the back can be seen much easier in the pictures of the groups. It may not seem like much, but coming from a coach I know what a difference it can make in team pictures. 6" added to the back row can make the difference in seeing just eyes or seeing the whole head and some chest.

My understanding, at this moment, is that there will be a risor platform on the 1st floor of the convention center lobby. This means that the gatherings that are inside there can use this small platform to get everyone in the photo. It will be located next to the stairs on the left hand side. I only ask that everyone respect this area and not use it as a place to sit or sleep. It will be there for those group photos. If you do not have an official gathering and you and your friends wish to use it respectfully for group photos, then there is no issue with that. Just know that all officially scheduled gatherings take precedence on usage of the platform.

2 days.... can you handle it?

BTW... If you want your gathering to appear on the 7 boards around con then have complete info posted here by midnight tonight, the 23rd, and I will add it to the final lists for around con. Thursday I leave and there will be no more updates... sorry.

I was considering changing your info, but I felt that it would be in the gatherings best interest to keep your original plan due to the fact that 5,000 pocket versions of the info have the original time and you could miss people if it was changed. Also, many photographers have printed out their copy of the list and if your gathering is on their list they won't realize that the gathering was changed. I hope you understand why I didn't change your info. Please let your gathering know.

It may not seem like much, but coming from a coach I know what a difference it can make in team pictures. 6" added to the back row can make the difference in seeing just eyes or seeing the whole head and some chest.

My understanding, at this moment, is that there will be a risor platform on the 1st floor of the convention center lobby. This means that the gatherings that are inside there can use this small platform to get everyone in the photo. It will be located next to the stairs on the left hand side. I only ask that everyone respect this area and not use it as a place to sit or sleep. It will be there for those group photos. If you do not have an official gathering and you and your friends wish to use it respectfully for group photos, then there is no issue with that. Just know that all officially scheduled gatherings take precedence on usage of the platform.
