I have a question. There are so many Fate/Stay Night fans and cosplayers, now. How did this happen? Another thing-- why aren't there Tsukihime or Melty Blood fans and cosplayers? It's kind of odd-- they were good games/series, too, and they're older than Fate/Stay Night. Am I missing something? And most Fate/Stay Night cosplayers I'd converse with... they don't know who TYPE-MOON is, nor played the game. What is your opinion or hypothesis? The Fate/Stay Night fandom kind of came out of nowhere.
Some people who cosplay don't necessarily have a rabid fandom as others [information wise]. FSN came out recently, while Tsukihime came out a while ago, so the fandom may have died down or went to the next T-M series.
I assume the cosplayers you conversed with were fans of the anime. Not everyone can obtain these import [H] games.

That's a shame. Fate/stay Night was a really good game. What I'm still wondering though, is that even when there was a Tsukihime fandom on the internet, there weren't many cosplayers. Saa...
well I agree with Pockystix, maybe the fandom for Tsukihime died out
Fate/stay night its the only TYPE-MOON series i was introduced to x:
Im cosplaying Rin from Fate/stay night XD;
i really dont bother knowing if there was a such a huuuge overload of cosplayers cause yeah then eventually if there was like tonnies it could take on narutards x:
its best to leave it as is

Sup Kazuko. It's Kasumi. :3
Personally, I like Tsukihime more than Fate/stay night, but I cosplayed as Archer because (1) I don't have access to the TYPE-MOON games, and (2) the characters from FSN have more recognizeable costumes: I mean, who would notice at all if I cosplayed as Shiki?
That said, I'm surprised that I don't see more Arcueids. Seems like it'd be a really easy costume that'd be nonetheless recognizeable and popular.
But I think part of the reason might be that Fate/stay night is newer. The way I see it, there are cosplayers who are on the edge of the latest trends and hot anime, and there are ones who are cosplaying favorite characters from series of all time, and then there are ones cosplaying the super-popular stuff. Tsukihime only qualifies for the second category, and it's but one anime among very many with strong fanbases.
Basically, I get the feeling that the most rabid fans of Tsukihime are also Fate fans, so they are likely to go either way, and Fate works better for costumes.

Ah, good point. I cosplayed as Len from Melty Blood at this years Fanime. I was glad a few people recognized who I was, but it wasn't many. Maybe... 1 or 2. x3
The recent upsurgence in Fate popularity in American fandom is obviously because of the anime. Tsukihime is a perennial favorite in Japanese fandom and created something of a niche fandom when it was released in anime form a few years back. I would figure that what's most bouying the fandom in America at this point is Melty Blood, especially considering the release of Act Cadenza to Japanese arcades not entirely too long ago.
A lot of the anime fans won't dwelve further into information outside the show, so I'm not surprised that many have not heard of TYPE-MOON. And even those who try to look further into the series will encounter the inevitable language barrier if they try to play the games.
As for cosplayers, I don't see TYPE-MOON ever making a huge impact on the American fandom scene. It's a tad to niche over here.
and I move this thread to the general chat anime forum, where it belongs.
*moves thread with Saber's Excalibur*
Well... I wanted to cosplay Ren and still do but its too hot during fanime. Maybe someday, I'll make something for JTAF. /knod
I agree with the fact that a lot of fans don't bother looking into details more. Though I think its partly because if they've only watched the anime and never came across references to the game, how are they to know to look for more information.
I'm sure there'd be a few fans that once they hear of it, they'd look into it.
The real question is what's next from TYPE-MOON, now that the Fate anime has ended. Their website doesn't have any info about upcoming projects, that I can read. I mean, Fate/hollow ataraxia has been out for a while, right? So they can't be just sitting around doing nothing...

And I'll be her Saber. We are going to dance apparently. I'm not sure I'm really coming as a Saber though...that would be disturbing to my pride and to many others. I'd gladly be your Sagara Sousuke though. He wouldn't dance though.
Saber in a white swimsuit O__o

Oh yeah, they're releasing the 1/6 Clayz Saber in the US. I guess it sure beats paying $90 or so at Anime Palace. If they even have it in stock. ^^; I personally think the 1/8 Kotobukiya Saber looks better. And it's cheaper too. Imported even. For me, the reason to the Clayz Saber would be for its sheer size. 1/6 is pretty big. X_x

Seems there's... a not-too-serious 3D PSP fighting game with Fate characters? "Fate/Tiger Colosseum" XD
http://www.capcom.co.jp/fate_tiger/movie.html
I doubt it'll really subtract from the Melty Blood fanbase being as it's not a traditional fighter and it's for PSP, not arcades. But it looks fun(ny).
ARCHERRRRRRRRR~~~~ God he's so CUTE!!! X.DDDDD
I've never seen anyone cosplay Archer before..... Anyone got pics? I've only seen Saber and Rin.

There were like 3 or 4 Archer cosplays at Fanime 06. I was one of them (with Chloe as Rin):

To think this whole time I didn't know that was you. Aye...
*smacks his own head.
Anyway... back on topic. I think there will be a new Type-moon anime coming out. Something about the female Shiki (Ryogi Shiki) from the written novels (Kara no Kyoukai).
http://www2.ocn.ne.jp/~typemoon/rakkyo/flash.htm
I'm not 100% sure, but I remember seeing a youtube video showing Ryogi Shiki in some anime. If that's enough to make Type-moon fans jump, then we also got the Fate/Stay Night prequel in the making.

I'm thinking more people will start reading or watching Nasu's genius creations. Type-moon hijack, HOOOOO!
EDIT: I found the video featuring Kara no Kyoukai. I think it's coming in August.

Tsubasa has it on pre-order.
As soon as he gets it, that CD's getting installed on at least like five different machines.
So I got Arc's true ending in the game. It really was pretty close to the anime. I really, really don't see what people hate about the anime. It has better music, it's fully animated, and IMO the art is better. And thanks to Kinoku Nasu's longwindedness, they cover everything needed for Arc's scenario in the anime.
I guess that's really the difference. For people who care about characters other than Arcueid, the anime drastically shortchanges them. But for me, Arc is so much better than the others, that I really don't care.
I mean, at this point, I'm not sure I'll even go back and play it over again. Arcueid's ending is the only one my heart is in. I might enjoy the Hisui or Kohaku endings but it seems like so much work to get there now that I've finished it once...

Akiha. Is. Not. An. Awesome. Tsudere. Imouto.
Aoko. Is. Not. Kansai-ben. Toting. Witch.
Near. Zero. Backstory. For. Arcueid. And. Others.
To put it frankly,
"Hmm... Cover-up Music and different Art style."
"I've got it!"
"It is shit."
~Chun
Sacchin is awesome, but she's no Arcueid. If she had a path of her own, though, I'd probably play it.
Akiha is maybe a little hotter in the games but it still does nothing for me.
Aoko, whatever, even in the original game she doesn't get that much time. It's only in Melty Blood that she develops that much personality. So it's not really something that the original Tsukihime did better than the anime. Heck, in the first volume of the manga she only gets two pages.
There was plenty of backstory for the other characters, including Arcueid. I don't know what you're saying is missing, but I played through her true ending and didn't really get any significant new information. It was just elaborated in excruciating Nasu-detail. I mean, come on, people don't hate on the Fate/stay night anime just because it followed mostly the Fate arc. There are all kinds of details and important background information that are only hinted in that anime.
Also, the amusement park episode of the anime was one of my favorites - it had me literally laughing out loud. And I didn't encounter that scene at all in the game. Is it Kagagetsu Touya stuff, or is it anime-original?

So I discovered that playing Tsukihime with the anime soundtrack really does work and it makes it a hell of a lot better. We'll see if I have the patience to make it through Akiha's, Hisui's, and Kohaku's arcs. It'll probably require a LOT of time...
Looking forward to the Tsukihime remake with Sacchin path, oh yeah! Of course... it'll likely be a long while before it's translated...
In the meantime, Kara no Kyoukai is hot.

You're half right. I missed Arc, but Akiha's path was good anyway. It didn't change my opinions on anything but it was enjoyable. I really wanted there to be a real Satsuki path.
I got talked into playing through Ciel's path, too, now. It's already bugging me but I'm hoping it'll get better once I've passed the generic start-of-game stuff. I wish he'd stop lying about how "beautiful" Curry-senpai is.
So the series "CANAAN" just started. It's based on a section from Chunsoft's
428 visual novel for Wii, a section that has story collaboration and character designs by Nasu Kinoko and Takeuchi Takashi of TYPE-MOON. And... well, it's really good. Animation is by a new studio, P.A. Works, and the first episode is pretty high quality all around - except for the 3DCG, which is... kinda blegh. But that doesn't matter. What does matter is that the show is good, it's pretty TYPE-MOON, and you should watch it.
OP by Faylan (Ga-Rei -Zero- insert songs) is pretty solid, too.
