I've been aspiring to be a better writer for some time now. After my current story is finished, I intend to write a horror/mystery. Frankly, however, I have no experience in writing horror and the question that came up to my head was, "How do you make someone scared through writing?" Well, you don't have to answer that since I'm pretty sure I know what to do now. Anyhow, Higurashi link to my ambitions. I think it's a well crafted story based on a doujin (sneaketh) visual novel (it sold 100,000 copies in Japan. A feat only accomplished before by Type-moon's Tsukihime).
COUGH COUGH
Anyhow, what do you think about the series? For newcomers... give it at least 4 episodes. It might be a tad bit odd, but if you look into the mix that the creators threw in, I think you might be impressed. Here's a picture. Click it. I dare you.

Enjoy.
Oh, and Spirit. Remember when I said I go on the animesuki forums to read about an anime and understand it better?

Episode 8 had me going and so I had to read up on some speculations and such. Overall, it helped me get some ideas for my new story as well as entertain me.
"There are too many dead people walking, nowadays"
Allow me to add a word I'm sure you missed:

Cause plenty of visual novels have sold more than 100k copies. XD;
I've always been interested in Higurashi since about when it gained some kind of recognition in Japan. It had to be something pretty good to generate that kind of fan response. But truth be told, I was extremely turned off by the art. Game site (http://07th-expansion.net/Soft/Higurasi.htm). And it's not something so easy to get into that it's easier to get over the art. *coughTouhoucough* When I heard of the anime release, I decided to jump on it; especially cause I saw the new character designs and they were, gasp, good.
Overall, it's pretty intense stuff. Like with any good mystery series, it draws you in and makes you wonder what's really going on. At the same time, there are some scenes that are just plain grotesque, they very well might make you wince, but you continue to watch out of morbid curiousity.
The voice cast is just plain stellar. Tamura Yukari steals the show for me. =P Nakahara Mai and Yukino Satsuki aren't so bad either. And Itou Miki once again proves to be one of the most consistently sexy seiyuu period IMO. <3
I'm keeping up-to-date with the fansub releases and eagerly wait to see how the entire story pans out.

Oh, geez. ::winces:: That does look bad.
It looks as bad as those...things...you find on Newgrounds.
Higurashi is a creepy awesome anime this year. I really enjoy the OP and it's mystic feel, and the art looks splendid compared to the Higurashi game. Seems Higurashi adapted a "Tales of Hinamizawa" storytelling format, which helps the topic stay diverse. Kind of like playing different story arcs.
This calls for an obligatory pull-in image.
