=O Intersting, now i'm excited.
I can't wait. My slow dial-up won't let me download anything any more, so I can't keep up with some of the newer releases eg. BitTorrent and such.
Not yet, but Utawarerumono aka Underwater Ray Romano got licensed by ADV and renamed "Shadow Warrior Chronicles" and that's a big
FAIL
At least they licensed it after it the subbers finished [not that afk could have be any faster XD]. I'm kind of curious to see how the dubs will be...
Now SOS Dan will take over the world.

In short,
fuck you, ADV. If you mess with the names, you will lose most of my respect -- seriously, that'd be like dropping down to the level of 4Kids. -_-

ooh...low blow on adv, there. let's not say anything we can't take back
Although I question some decisions ADV makes, I don't seem to hold as many beefs about the company compared to other people. On the average, their translation quality is passable and they generally don't change names. The prospect of a Haruhi thinpak is quite nice too. The Utawarerumono name change is regretable, but I'm sure the translation of the series itself will be watchable.
See, I'd at least give them some credit if they actually attempted to translate the title (Utawarerumono = The One Being Sung = reference to Hakuoro being praised?) But indeed, the series itself shouldn't have any major changes, <sarcasm>especially to this scene (http://community.livejournal.com/utawarerumono/6313.html#cutid1) from episode 17.</sarcasm> (I kid. They probably really won't change it.)
THIS IS WHY I THOUGHT THE TWINS WERE GIRLS. LEAVE ME ALONE. ;_;
...those two are d00ds?
Yeeee... ..::shiver::..

It's OK. They're really cute boys.
So is Oboro gay?
...then what is he doing in Hakuoro's Harem Brigade? XD
Stupid question, yes, I know, what with Benawi...8D
AnimeOnDVD's thread (http://forums.animeondvd.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=1401540&Main=1401537) about the panel said that only Shuffle was licensed and the other series were examples of anime from Kadokawa. But they'll probably get it within a year, so either way, it's not lookin' too bright. X:
BTW, they translated SOS団 as 'SOS Club'. FAIL lawlz. D:<
Some people on the animenewnetwork think that ADV's names for Utawarerumono and another anime, Shin Angyo Onshi, got switched. I hope that's true. -.-
As long as they don't butcher it.... -.- They better not butcher either Utawarerumono or Haruhi.

I'm not a huge fan of ADV, but hey, at least it
wasn't 4kids. That would be much,
much worse.
*stabity* D: WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
;__; if they butcher it i will so come down to their office and beat up each and every person

I dunno, 4Kids NOT picking up Haruhi only makes sense. I mean, a good chunk of the series has Haruhi harassing Mikuru in some sort of way that kids were just not meant to see, but cutting those segments out would DIRELY shorten the show.
Cutting to the quick, the show is simply too philosophical and mature (read: for more mature audiences than the kids that watch the FoxBox) for 4Kids to even consider it. It'd be like 4Kids trying to chop up, say...
...a hentai, to be exaggerative.
Cut out the "naughty" stuff and there's not much to it.
taken from animenewsnetwork.com:
Otakon 2006 - Kadokawa Shoten
Representative: Takashi Sakuda
A representative from Kadokawa spoke to a small but eager audience Saturday afternoon about the company and what they’ve done. Among the many anime and manga properties that they’ve produced or published in the past, like Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, and Full Metal Panic, they’ve also handled many live-action properties like The Ring franchise and Dark Water. He then showed a clip introducing the company, one of the largest production and publishing companies in the Japanese entertainment industry.
Amongst their accomplishments, Kadokawa is well known for their film and television adaptations of books and manga, as well as many successful film remakes, print publications, and video games.
Sakuda then talked briefly about their most recent titles, like Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid, licensed for release in North America by Funimation. He then chatted about The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, a title which was greeted with loud cheers by the audience. Sakuda also talked about The Third, a 24-episode action series with sci-fi elements set in the future after the end of an interplanetary war, as well as Guyver, licensed for North American release by ADV Films. He also talked about The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo), a film animated by Madhouse.
Another title being produced by Kadokawa is TANK S.W.A.T. 01, a 30-minute short based on Masamune Shirow’s “Dominion.†It is animated in full 3D and directed by Romanov Higa.
Afterwards, he showed trailer reels for the above-mentioned titles, including a five-minute dubbed teaser of Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid.
Other titles being produced by Kadokawa include Shuffle, Karin, and Demon Bane.
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya does not currently have a distributor, but Kadokawa has received several offers from companies; Sakuda expects it to be released in the US next year. With the first volume having sold 60,000 units in Japan, it is one of the most successful anime properties currently on the market.
Distributors have not yet been picked for The Third, Demon Bane, or Karin, but Sakuda said that those titles will likely be seen “next year.†As for The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, the company is looking to release it theatrically in the US.
When asked about the Haruhi novels and manga, Sakuda said that the company has received offers, and there is a chance that those too will be seen next year.
Another fan asked if there were plans to make further Full Metal Panic series. While there was a possibility of making movies or more TV series, the company has not fully decided yet; Sakuda added that they may consider creating one new Full Metal property every two years.
Like I said, it hasn't been licensed yet. geez -_-;;
It seems I have a very lousy track record in data verification. Remind me to kill some of the Megatokyo peeps.

HOW DID YOU NOT KNOW THEY WERE EFFING BOYS?! D< What's
WRONG wit chu, man!?
And I ask myself how did this topic avoid my eyes for a week....
Anywho, I say one thing if it does get licensed. Leave the songs alone, and they could be forgiven....a little (though going from English to Japanese in the actual episode is always weird...). Now, as for voices, specifically referring to the main three girls, I can't imagine...or rather, I refuse to imagine how they would sound in English aside from...well, wrong.
On the happy side of life: If the anime comes over, and, ohh let's say it happens to be well accepted, any chance of the novels making their way to our shelves as Ryu quoted? That is gotta' be worth some more forgiving.
This is all hypothetically speaking of course.
There are actually some people translating the novels for fun (and free) now... but I love paperback bindings too much to bother reading them online, or even printing them out to read.
What's wrong with ADV? Can anyone point to me any recent ADV DVD releases so I can rent and examine myself? Are they messing around with the Japanese video transfers?
I was comparing the two OP angles in Funimation's Samurai 7 DVD and the English angle was noticeaby worst in the PQ department than the orginal Japanese angle. I don't think they were putting the proper weird cadences. I wish these companies would leave the video stream alone.
Quote from: gmontemWhat's wrong with ADV?
The fact that they initially announced Utaware to Shadow Warrior Chronicles, even though that sounds like the most cliché name ever?
ADV issued out another statement, however, that that would be the in-house name for it -- I guess so many people had a complaint about it that ADV may actually be contemplating
actually calling it The One Being Sung. :3
Oof, here's MY question:
...what will become of Hare Hare Yukai, God Knows, and other TMoSH songs? Hopefully they'll pull them off well, or heads will roll. If HHY suffers ANY pain, heads will roll.
