Well me and some of my comrades are getting our gear together. Probably the most important thing is probably BUFF UP PEOPLE. I mean realistically of course since each of us have our own lifestyle etc. But really, no offense but flabby Spartans aren't too um... well you know. Me and my friends who're doing this are try'n to work out every weekend till Fanime hits. Ladies ARE welcome to join us. Besides only "spartan women give birth to spartan men."
We're probably going to plan a mass meeting sometime on Saturday? I can promise you at least 10 people now. (just my *squad*). Keep spreading the word brothers (and sisters) so we could at least hit 100!!!!! (although 300 would be the dream.)

If there isn't a reference pic for female spartans, I'd prolly use this as a ref pic.
The girl on the far right (mostly covered, NOT least covered) I would use to make my outfit. >_> Course, It'd have the red robes and stuff, instead of the barbarian stuff. I do have a fancy sword to match too.
Funny this is brought up since I was planning to make the spartan from Spartan:Total Warrior for con-extreme. But the 300 spartans will be a cheaper and easier costume to make.
I'm glad you brought up getting in shape.I didn't wanna rub it in people's faces, but their is no such thing as a flabby spartan!! I myself have been getting in shape to do a Devil Man cosplay. Being a bare chested spartan just sweatens the deal.

You could also use a strip of red clothe to cover the boobage. That would leave the costume in the exact same way except with a tiny minor detail. Of coarse that's if you wanna show that much skin. Just the way I would approach it. :D

Of course I can. ^-^ after a few practice runs with foam, I am going to make leather armour. ^_^ I have tutorials and people to help me. O_o That's if I have the cash. o.O I won't be doing anything majorly extravegant. Just helms, guantlets, shin guards, breast plate and maybe some accessories. o.o'' I might only have enough for me and someone else though. I'd have to buy it in bulk from a wholeseller place.
But if anyone wants foam armour, I can do that. As long as I get some sort of donation for supplies. (and measurements) I have links to some real nice tutorials. And the time and energy.

I'm gonna make my shield from a thin,light piece of the wood.The only problem is getting it to curve,instead of being a flat shield. Using steam to bend it can work, but I'd rather not get into that mess.I'm also worried of conops getting on my case since a wooden shiled could hurt if swung fast enough.
On a better note, it would be cool if we formed a phalanx.Then push a crowd of people forward. ^^

And glue, and some cotton guaze for the lining. It's not much. I already have synthetic hair for the helms. (***If the leather is way too expensive to buy as bulk, I may just use the foam****)
I could also tack cool designs into the leather pieces instead....the armour won't be hardend...but it'd stil look cool. I dunno...I'm going through a list of ideas, what ifs and worst case scenerios.

what do i need to do to get armor from you?
First you must climb a tall mountain far in the east, nakkid with only a banner with my name tied around your head. You must reach the top of this mountain, and enter a temple and ring the gong four times. of course you will have to fight barehanded the undead guardians, but if you succeed you will be able to gain the spirit mallet to hit the gong.
THEN you must wait the next day, and leave the mountain before sundown, and you will recieve the armour.

Honestly, i dunno. lol. I have a month to pull this all off and varying or limited supplies. Just give me measurments and if I get to yours, I'll make it. Foam seems to be the best bet, as time is running faster than my hands can go. Here's the info on the supplies. For me and kegan, the armour will be more like an underbust. (I have to figure out the whole boob thing)

Cotton linen, for the armour lining, I cannot find. It pretty much looks like mummy wrappings. Just sold by the yard in modern day. **I cannot find this**
huge bottles of elmers' glue = I dunno, havent found the big bottles in stock yet. *yay walmart*
This is so far of what I have, and the only store out here is Walmart...and it's a very very small one. If anyone has any suggestions that may help, ie something to susbstitute for the lining, please message me. ^-^

Thick tights might work. Hey at the WalMart do they have a fabric place? I know some of the bigger ones do, but moving on. you could get some old clothes or something and glue them to the inside, which would save you some possible sewing, or if you made the armor and brought it to fanime you could give it to ppl and have them line it themselves.

Grampa came home the other day and told me to use those alunimum turkey/ham pans that you buy at like the dollar store. Instead of using foam and crap...He said to make a mold from the alunimum pans using my measurements, and mix the plaster with paper and place the strips onto the alunimum mold. I made a second, smaller version with this weed matting and puzzle glue to trace the outline. (I have to make everything from scratch before I can make plaster copies.) The weed matting is pretty awesome. I'll prolly use that for the 'skirt' thing they use. o_o
The leg and arm bracers would be the second thing, and use the smae material. Any specific designs you guys want?
I think I have enough plaster for several breast plates/back plate molds. All are going to be made to your general sizes. I am making the back and the front completely seperate from each other, and you will have to lace it up the sides. The girls' will have a nice under skirt thingy, though...I need ideas for that.
Another thing I am considering, is lining the armour with nylon material, and that weed matting stuff to give it a 'leather' look and fit comfortably. Though, I can't 100% garuantee that it'll be prefect. As I am way far away from you guys. All I can do is assume and do my best with measurements.
Please ask questions, and any suggestions are still open. I do require measurements. Just to get an idea of how big/small to make the front part.

Also for the metal areas I think you can go to a craft store and get some metallic aging spray or paint. I used some on my Ryuk jewelry and they look great. They look worn and old instead of being a single shade of bright silver. I know theres some for bronze and other colors if you look. Also, dirt works well too, but being dirty is a little ....dirty.

Just look for something that says metal aging or wearing or something that makes metal look old. I don't know if there is a spray that does that. Craft stores carry this stuff in paint form. Also, are you making me a costume? Posted my measurements.

okay, these are the ref pics I am using for the armour. It's easier on the bust region (for the girls) and simple. Plaster didn't cut it, and was a wee bit heavy for convention going. Might as well get the real thing. lol, so I am going to use the foam process I mentioned earlier. I have plenty left over stuff to continue. ;P I have the designs already layed out too, so it's not a complete failure. (I would have died too if it werent for massive copies)
I think the paint form of the aged metal spray would work best. That way I can control the 'aging' process.
**Note** Those are ref pics only...I already drawn up my own variants of the 'armour' and have my own details and designs. So, no you aren't gonna look totally like brad pitt.

If a date and time haven't been choose, can I sugest Monday? Like later morning to afternoon. I've been talking to some people and they have a star wars convention on saturday and sunday. And Sunday is also the masqurade (which I'm in, in a different cosplay. So I wont be able to do Gorgo on Sunday.).

I will be unable to cosplay due to the lack of funds for the costume. (plus I wasn in shape to do the 300 style)

So I went to the fountains at the scedualed time. I sat there for an hour and no one showed up. I was quite sad. But as the day wore on I ended meeting up with a group of spartan men. It was awesome we took lots of pics.
