i heard play! video game symphony is coming to down the weekend of fanime at the performing arts center. i'm so stoked! i was lucky enough to snag a ticket to the first Dear Friends music from Final Fantasy concert in LA....too much awesomeness. vgm sounds sooooo good performed by an orchestra.
Yup, it's true... It's at the CPA which is like a block away ^_^
There's even a discount for Fanime members. The discount is $6 for most seats and $10 for those special seats near the front.
We'll have more information up on the website soon...
This kicks ass!! Are we going to need to reserve tickets or are they going to available around con time? If we need to reserve them, is there a website available that registered fanime members can use in order to apply the discount?

You will have to order your tickets through ticketmaster but enter a special code that we will be releasing very soon. :)
Thanks!
Would we have to dress up all formal for this event? Or could we go straight from fanime to the concert in our costumes? :?

i've heard stories of people showing up in cosplay...might have read article about the producer encouraging people to be themselves.
I wanna go to this so bad.
$30 extra is probably worth it... but man, that's just even more of my cash dwindling away. ;_;

Are you serious? I just paid 100 bucks for an orchestra seat...
They're seriously gonna be selling those for 10 dollars for Fanime attendees? or 'Fanime Attendees' that can just find the code and use it even if they're not going to fanime?
Doesn't seem fair to those of us who ordered the tickets early. >_<
I think she meant 10$ off, not 10$ in total. The discount is 10$, not the final ticket price. I'm not positive though, but that would make sense.
If you want to check out the information on the show visit www.play-symphony.com. There is ticket information there. For some reason ticketmaster hasn't built in the discount for registered fanime attendees. The team behind this production is the same one behind Dear Friends- Music from FINAL FANTASY, and More Friends- Music from FINAL FANTASY. Tickets are on sale but they will probably sell out so get them while you can.
I heard that there will be some famous people attending as well as a lot of free giveaways.
I am excited! They have been everywhere except our beloved Cali.
According to the PLAY! website www.play-symphony.com Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu creators of FINAL FANTASY will premiere their newest game Lost Odyssey as part of the show. They will also preform the music and showcase on the big screen never before seen footage of the game "The Darkness". Both of these games have not even been released anywhere. Pretty cool!
:P
Sounds better and better. I can't wait. With Pirates 3 also, Fanime weekend is going to be just plain EPIC.

oh man i hope that hand drummer Rony Barrak is coming. i heard he was the bomb in chicago and stockholm.

Aha, I read it stupidly.

I purchased a front row ticket but I did not notice an area for promotion codes of any kind besides gift certificate redemption. Can anyone help me with this?
Update: It seems like the promotional code was just added today as I can now get tickets with the fanime discount. Is there a way to retroactively apply the discount without having to buy another ticket and lose my seat?

probably not =(. ticketmaster is famous for shafting it's customers. hell the convenience fees for my sharks playoff tickets are ridiculous enough.
Does anyone know the promo code?
Quote from: HeeroYuy135Does anyone know the promo code?
i just spotted it on the front page of fanime.com
too bad i bought my tickets before ticketmaster got their game together and put the promo code option on them =/
The password is "fanime".
So I guess the 100 dollar seats come with a souveneir bag.
Fun! ^^
I got my cheap 36 dollar ticket before the promo code became valid, as well. With ticketmaster bullgarbage, my final ticket price was 44 and change.
Im Orchestra D 26 how about all of you? XD
I dunno where that is, but it sounds good! Im not ZZ 49 at least XD

Row six, seat 9.
That tells me that lots of people heard and already replied to the fact that PLAY! was coming to SJ, because I bought it pretty quickly after I heard they were coming and I still got sixth row. lol.
Oh well.
It is official Jeremy Soule the composer of Oblivion will attend the show. Also, many of us are planning on coming in costume. We are going to have a costume party there. Spread the word and encourage everyone to get their tickets now before they are gone. If you know of anyone interested make sure they get there tickets and spread the word. I have been waiting for this event to come since Dear Friends in SF. Also, the ticketmaster system has a discount for Fanime folks. Just enter "fanime" which is all the more reason to buy now!

First 1,000? Awesome...I'm SO getting there early.
I was just curious if anyone knows what the program will be for this show? Is it posted anywhere? Please let me know. I hope they perform One Winged Angel.
The more people who come the more exciting it will be. I hope that everyone coming to Fanime will join us at this event. We are going to have a costume ball. 8)
ooo freebies! i'm so there early.
Well, it's either this or music-fest. I have already bought a hundred dollar ticket so Play! is the event I will be attending.
This>>>>music-fest. Especially with a 100 dollar ticket.
Epic performances. Epic songs. What else could you ask for?

Probably not. Fanime has made plans, involving contracts, with these bands. Chances are that it has the date of performance pretty much set in stone. If they were to try and change it most likely it would incur a fee or something negative in their communications with the bands.
Again, I say oh well and Hooray for Play!

No. MusicFest has been on Saturday for a few years now, and yes, contracts are involved. If you want to blame someone for the scheduling conflict, don't look here.

oh i see..alright.
The PLAY! concert starts at 8PM. Does anyone know what time the music fest starts? In a perfect world we can attend both since the PLAY! program I believe usually runs about two hours or so. In any case, I have been waiting for PLAY! to come to the Bay Area since I first saw the banner on the fanime website last year! It is not everyday that you get the opportunity to see a full orchestra, choir, grammy award winning conductor, guest stars, receive limited edition merchandise, world premiere of Lost Odyssey, The Darkness, and yet still more to be announced. I have already spent my money on PLAY!. Oh I cannot wait.
I hadn't looked at the PLAY! website for a few weeks. Did anyone else notice the free stuff they're giving away to the first 1,000 people? How cool is that? http://www.play-symphony.com/news.php?full=70
I was thinking that it might be nice if we can have a group to meet up before the concert for dinner? If this is something that people want to do suggest a place. I am thinking to meet uo at the convention center. Does anyone have any restaurant suggestions? Holler. Only 19 more days!

I'm getting into line 2 hours early at least. I want to nab a soundtrack! lol
I might just grab some mcdonalds around 4 or 5 and then go stand in line. whee.
Get in line around 4 or 5? Holy crap! *worries* I want the free swag but that's really early! Oh I know; I'll get myself entertainment at Fanime earlier and bring that with me! *problem solved* Yay!
Anyway, I didn't read the previous pages so I apologize if this has already been asked and answered but does anyone know how late this is going to go?

Probably around 9:30 or 10 at the latest if it starts at 8.
I've seen people start a line for Masq. IN THE MORNING. Just thought I should point that out.
don't forget to bring your DS if you have one! i read from a review of the chicago show that people were chatting on the DS during the intermission, sounds like a good idea. i'll be bringing mine.

Fun. I may hijack one of my sister's.
In the morning? As much as I'd like to nab free stuff I don't think so.
Also, keep in mind that Masquerade is first come first serve seating, that would explain why people would get in line in the morning to nab the best spot. When you've got seats already picked out it's not as pressing to get into a line, unless you're eager for goodies like me. ^_^

good stuff! haven't played burning crusade yet, and getting a dvd install should make things go a little faster. 14 days is a lot longer than the 10 blizzard is currently offering. timing is great as well, after finals!
Boo to finals!
It is so exciting! I have been waiting for this show to come to California since May 26 of last year. I was so bummed that I couldn't go to the Chicago show. I got my tickets for this show in my home state!
I"m getting to go to a private dress rehearsal that day for the press! I'm also having an interview with the creator and producer of the show!!
Please everyone, go to www.binaryculture.net and check it out! It isn't up yet, but it will be. Tell your friends! I'll be passing out flyers and advertisements for Binary Culture at the convention since we're trying to get more readership.
(I'm the new Anime Editor so you can read my blogs and even see a picture! wheee... >_<)

man lucky you! the producer took my picture for me with uematsu at the san francisco show, he's a really awesome dude. i can only imagine how much he goes through putting on a show, not to mention he's going on a 3 country blitz for the overseas show a few days after this one. 10 days to go baby!
I talked to the producer and there are still plenty tickets for the show. we need to support this show this time around. He said that if this show goes well this year they are thinking about creating a show that will feature both VGM and Anime music.
If you havent bought tickets do it now. We need to get this show sold out so they will come back next year. FANIME come on!
Hey guys, check out my feature on Binary Culture on the show:

I knew that the bag was going to come with a program guide, it said so on Play's website I think.
Anyways, the concert was absolutely amazing. The audience was very mature and respectful as well. I know that there were worries that the nature of the audience would result in lots of noise and disruptions, but this didn't happen.
Great show, now I can't wait for 'More Friends' to start touring. hehehe
This concert was seriously amazing. I cried.
