I know it's early but we satrted a bit late in 2007.

we need to plan it better.

You know me, I will be there in next years Rurouni Kenshin gathering.

I may have a RuroKen costume for next year if I can decide who I want to dress up as.

Well, who is you fave? we might be able to help.

Kaoru Kamiya would be pretty to dress as.  :)

1. that's alright, there are allot of first time cosplayers out there 2. if you're good at sowing, go get the patterns and a picture of Kaoru and have at it, and if you're bad at sowing (like me) have a friend who can sow make it (that's where it may get pricey if they ask for money. 3. If you don't want your picture taken you better not cosplay, but if it's ok with you, go ahead. 4. I don't have pictures with me, but I can get some from EBKing or BSaphire.

I'm kind of leaning towards Battousai!Kenshin but I worry that I may be too tall.

How about Sagara Sanosuke then?  He's tall.  (that's the right name right? its been so long since I've seen the anime)

Hay, it doesn't really matter if your tall, I've seen tall Kenshin's before.  but it would be cool to have a Kenshin there . . . it is the name of the series.

I thought about doing Sano, but I am a girl, so with the spiky hair and the open shirt he's harder to pull off.  :D   I know Kenshin's komono hangs open too, but it doesn't have to, bwha.

Kenshin's so fun too!  I'm surprised more people don't do him, but I did see at least one lurking about the Con this weekend.

You can get one at Japan Town in SF or find the patters online (I have no idea how much they cost)  :oops:

Oh, I almost forgot, you can also get the patterns at some fabric stores like Joanns.  that's where I found the pattern for my friends Soujirou kimono, and my Kaoru gi. :)

bad news, after I got back from AX I was too tired to get my bags out of the car so I left them in there over night (it was locked and the bags were in the trunk) and when I came back the next morning someone had taken everything  :evil: so now I have to remake most of my costumes (including Kaoru) but thankfully, my freind who made the costume will make me another one. :)

now if I find the people who took my stuff, :evil:  I'M GOING TO KILL THEM TWICE! :evil:

yep, and hopefuly the Kaoru KIMONO I conmitioned from Liz will be done by then so that Jingko can join us (she said that she wouldn't do Kenshin again till I get a Kaoru Kimono :P ).

I'll be there in 08!
I visited Fanime for one day last year, and really enjoyed the atmosphere. I didn't go with any costumes, but will next year.

So count me in for the Ruroken fun!
I'll bring my Kenshin costume I made for San D Con 06 (and since fixed a few things on. Seems I am in good company on having to rush to finish somethings before a Con...?)
It will be so much fun to get to cosplay with a group of Ruroken fans!

RE: kimono
They are not that difficult to sew, actually.
There's a couple current kimono patterns you can get from Butterick or Simplicity that may not be 100% accurate, but close enough!! Maybe you could do a little customizing.
Watch for Jo Ann's to put them on sale for $1..  
You've got plenty of time to get a costume made if you start preparing now.

I'd have to think it through. It would certainly be fun for photo ops, and while I do have making kimono down to a snap now, there's the other stuff to work through. If I didn't have to remake the hakama by sticking with white....

Hello . . . anyone there?

I'm still here  ;D

Well I know one of my friends will be going as Kenshin and I am trying to convince another to go as Sanosuke Sagara. Myself I am torn because I want to do one of the villains but most of them didn't last for more then a couple episodes. If anyone has a suggestion feel free to throw it out there. I am male, about 5' 10" with a moderate build  and a bit of a belly (working on that). My hair is short (military requirement so growing it long isn't an option) though I am not adverse to wearing a wig.

The thing about the villains is some of them made quite an impression even for short appearances.
Depending on what you chose, and how you make your costume, you might be able to "hide" some of your belly, even if you're working on it.

There's a lot of good villians it'd be great to have at a Fanime group. You'd know which ones you'd have a good chance of making the costume and having the best look for. And some of these probably have not been done that often.
There's Aoshi or the rest of his bunch of Han'nya, Hyottoko, Beshimi, Shikijo. (Sure they got killed off fairly quick but they sure lived on in tons of flashbacks! :P )
Shishio, and the rest of the Juppon Gatana. Would be fun to have a Cho someday--Cho v Sano...yeah!
Enishi. (The rest of Enishi's crew in the manga from the Jinchuu arc wouldn't be well recognized because the OVA didn't follow the manga very closely.)
Raijuta.
Another good choice would be Jin-e. He's was a big part of the first story arc, and also got a number of backflash appearances.

Anyone that's familiar with the series would recognize these antagonists!

I would sugest going as Enishi because I have YET to see an Enishi Cosplay (even though I hate the cherecter)  :P  

The last time I saw an Enishi cosplayer was in fanime 2003 and I haven't seen one since. I hope I see one next year.

yeah, the only problem I see in that is that there are going to be allot of people around that we might get lost in the shuffle. But we might be able to make it work, you know, meeting at the Jump gathering and if other people can't make it to that gathering we can wait for them.

Then add whatever time is probably needed for that gathering, pick a location slightly off the Jump spot to reform for this one? Therefore getting everyone out of being 'lost in the shuffle'?

Should be fun!  We have a good amount of people, but not a ridiculous amount like Bleach or Naruto.  I did Bleach last year and it was simply not fun because of the amount of people, so I'm really looking forward to this.

Since my last post was a bit iffy, I decided to give an update. My Kaoru kimono is coming along, but needs altering. I'm commissioning it so the unknown factor for me is the final delivery to me because the person is rather far away from where I live.

The only thing is that this person is unfamiliar with pre-tied obi. So I had to buy one. A pre-tied fushia obi is harder to come by than I thought. The one I was able to get is not as symmetrical as I would like. But maybe I can get an opinion? These photos are taken from my phone so the color is definitely not accurately depicted.

Might wanna add another Kenshin to the list :D but I'm not 100% sure yet... also I can't decide which one to go as. Either as the Samurai X Kenshin or from the actual series. Hopefully I'll decide soon.

Man, Sano's wraps are obnoxious.  I can't decide which will look better - if I go ahead and actually wrap, or I sew the wrap onto something else (elastic-y) and just slide it on.  Either way it's time consuming.

Sorry to say I'm still just possibly - I think I may be over my head on my cosplays for the year and may have to cut one.  :-[

I would say that you sow it into something and it will be easier to manage.

Okay, yes, pun on the bad...argh.
If you sew them to something and either use a zipper or snaps that are on the back, the coat would cover that. I agree you might need a fabric that has some stretch to it, so it stays up.

I hope you can get the Sano costume worked out!!!

Also just to say my cosplay is coming along very nicely I'm pretty much 99.9% certain I'll be doing Kenshin just gotta experiment with my hair hahaha also I'm going as Rurouni Kenshin not Samurai X just thought I'd let everyone know :D

I'm going to have one costume change day at Fanime, but there's no way I could ever put Abel Nightroad over the Ukitake costume. That will require a trip to the hotel room....LOL!

If we can help you with your costume change, ovtrlan, let us know!
I can imagine it would be tricky to put things over top of the other costume, and get everything to smooth out nicely. You wouldn't want to end up ripping any seams or getting sleeves tangled and such. 

I can't wait, it is sounding like so much fun ^_^

i just got off with the Guilty Gear People, and it looks like we're having the GG gathering the same day but in the morning.

Guess I'll be running around that day changing in and out of costumes. :P

I'm sorry it's a really sad small collection. I either should have gone ahead and taken pics myself or encouraged any friends to just go crazy with the camera.
