I remember many moons ago, I used to post in a forum for an anime site that I've forgotten the name of. It was myself and a handful of others that genuinely liked her. Almost everyone there really hated her, though. Some created their own fanclub, and made creative posts on how they wished they can torture, maim, and kill this poor, sweet girl. I found their fanclub very disturbing. Other than that, most of the posters there were pretty friendly.
Anyway, what I'm wondering is if the Orihime hate is the norm. I'd like to think that it isn't.

I had a talk with a homie about that. He said that he couldn't stand her overly-cuteness and ditzy personality. Like you, Sidekick, he didn't hate her, either, but he found her mildly irritating. Maybe that's what you're feeling as well.
I like her! Sure she's a little, uh, "airheaded" but she adds a nice balance to all of the crazy powerful fighting people.
Plus I'm very excited to see that the newest opening of the show implies... (SORT OF A SPOILER FOR PEOPLE NOT UP TO DATE WITH THE ANIME BELOW-Highlight to see)
That she's doing to turn evil. Or something like that. I haven't read the manga, so I can't say what's going on, but her Arancar outfit is HOT. :D
