How many rooms are available in which Hotels?:
Hilton - is 98% sold out.
Marriott is 97% sold out.
St. Claire is 93% sold out.
Fairmont is 58% sold out.
Crowne is 97% sold out.
Montgomery is 64% sold out.
If you are looking for a hotel, only the Fairmont has rooms...
See you guys next year...
Craige should do percents like he did last year. <3
Hey Craige how do we distinguish suites? I only see a general price list, no suite separation.
Also, DAMN! Rooms are going very fast. Luckily I snagged mine up quick.

I've decided to pass on it this year ;D and just list the actual numbers, unless more people really want them and I'll do it.

I'm going to start charting that after the Crowne contract is signed.

Is the Hilton not going to offer its rate on the Thursday of the con? (the 22nd) Or did it sell out already? I'm trying to figure out whether to go with them and just come in a day later or go for one of the alternatives and stay starting on Thursday...

OMG!!! :o
Okay, here's what going on, the primary nights for FanimeCon are Friday through Sunday nights. Any other night is referred to in the hotel business hotel as 'shoulder nights'; Thursday being one of those should nights. We normally don't book a lot of those nights, because in the past we haven't had a real had a need for them.
However, this year we have sold all our shoulder nights prior to the start of FanimeCon, being Thursday and Wednesday. I've call CMR and confirmed that they are calling all the hotels and seeking additional shoulder nights from them and they will be put up on the reservation system as soon as possible.
That means that you will need to go back into your reservation, if you made one and request an additional night's stay. The same low rate will apply.
Does that help?

I'm assuming these numbers are going to go down as soon as SacAnime is done =P
Once these fill up, will any more be booked? I waited too long to book mine apparently, and have gotted fuxed by the lack of rooms available at the Hilton. It's the only hotel that allows smoking, which is kind of a necessity due to my choice of travel companions ><''
edit: Hit submit too soon, whoops. I've got a booking for the Marriott (because they couldn't put me on the waitlist without making a proper booking) and am on the waiting list for the Hilton, but if nothing there opens up it's kind of pointless ~.~;;

Are you asking, once SacAnime is done, that more people are going to book hotel rooms... Yeah, I would image that it's going to get uglier than it already is now. Frankly I've never seen us sell these many rooms so fast, I mean think about it, we have already sold almost half of everything we've got, last year that took us until the middle of February to do the same thing.

Okay Moonbloosm, you have managed to confuse me, I'm looking at the internal numbers for the hotel blocks and I see that the Hilton has plenty of rooms available from Wednesday prior to the convention to the Monday, at the end of the convention. Do you mean that you can't get a smoking room, because they are filled up? Yeah, that's a b*tch, because they only have a VERY limited number of those rooms in the Hilton, but I thought all the hotels have a couple of smoking rooms?
Mind if I make a suggestion? Have you called CMR to find out if they can assist you better than I can? They might be able to check with the Fairmont, the Crowne or the St. Claire to see if they have any 'special' rooms for you.
Craige...

I spoke with CMR. I'd be flying in on the 22nd and flying out on the 27th, there are apparently no rooms left on the 26th right now, or so I was told. The smoking thing wasn't even an option when I called, because there were just no rooms at the Hilton for that time period.
I have to be able to stay there the nights of the 25 and 26, since I'm flying from eastern Canada and have to take early morning flights to get back home.
If somehow you're seeing rooms available for the night of the 26th as well, then there's some confusion somewhere... ~.~;;
And no, all the other con hotels are "Entirely Smoke Free For Your Benefit!! *insert smiley here*". Apparently people who smoke no longer have the same rights as people who don't in Cali ;P I called all their front desks to verify. Yay hoog phone bills.

Hi,
On Monday 26th, I show 10 room open and I'm doing a live time check on it, right now...
Did you get a name of the person you talked to at CMR? Do you have a date and time that you talked to them; it helps, but is not necessary.
If you can't see it or CMR says its not there again, I'll check with CMR by linking this thread to them.
Let's see what's happening.

Thanks so much for checking into this!
The girl I spoke to was named Jessie, I believe. My confirmation and waitlist info was entered under the username "jkaufer" on the CMR housing page when I log in to check the reservation status. I spoke to her on Thursday, around 1PM eastern, so 10AM pacific. Yay for having timestamps on my cellphone ;)
She was incredibly helpful and spent a lot of time working with me to see if we could find a solution, I'm quite sure it is just a misunderstanding or technical issue of some sort, so please don't think I'm complaining about service or anything. She even called me back at one point because I said I'd rather speak with her since we'd been talking back and forth to sort things out. I'm guessing their info on the computer had not been updating in realtime or something, I don't know.

Hi Moonblossom, I did some checking and the Hilton is redoing their rooms in the coming months and the hotel is discussing whether they want to even keep the smoking rooms at all. There has been no final decision made and I'm awaiting their reply via CMR as to what is happening. I just thought I would pass along that information, so you are not blind sided, if it does happen.

Thank you, Craige. I really appreciate the heads-up. I guess I'll start looking for off-site hotels that still allow smoking, if there are any. ><''

Don't start looking just yet, we haven't heard from the Hilton yet and if does come to that, I'll put in contact with someone inside the CVB that will point you in the right direction for a close by hotel, well, reasonable close, that permits smoking. Okay?

Thank you, you're too kind.
I wasn't going to jump the gun and book something right away, but I did want to get a start on finding some alternatives, just in case.
The worst part of this whole mess is that I'm still not even sure I'll be able to get time off work so all this plotting may be for naught. In which case I'm going to feel absolutely awful that you're being so helpful ~.~;;
Im a little confused. I have reservations at the hilton for the 22 - 26th. On Dec 31st this thread said there were 10 rooms left for monday night. I called to add that day to my res and was told no rooms were available. Now its updated and it still says 10 rooms left. Whos right? And if there are rooms left how can I add that night to my res since both calling and online modification wont give me the option.
What does "contracted room" mean? Does that mean that those rooms are specifically reserved by Fanime for fanime attendees? Does that mean that there are more available rooms that haven't been contracted with fanime?

That does seemt to be a problem with CMR's database, the call center agents are seeing one thing and the reports that I'm looking at show another. I have a conference call with CMR on Thursday to discuss this issue with them, I'll let you know afterwards the results.

Your first definition is correct.
It is the number of rooms that we have contracted to sell to our attendees.
We normally request from the hotels all available rooms that they can offer us, however, all hotels have a certain amount of rooms that they have to hold in reserve for flight crews, executive members and others.
Does that help?

Craige, just to keep you up to date since you're being so kind and helpful, I've been moved from a two-bed in the Marriott to a two-bed in the Hilton, and according to the woman at the front desk at the Hilton, even if they do start updating the rooms, there's no way they'll all be non-smoking by May, so everything should be fine :) I'm still on the waitlist for a one-bed, which would be my ideal due to a slightly constrained budget, but if I can't get it, I've still got my hotel of choice so all is well :D
edit: eee! Just got my notification that I got a one-bedded room, very strong request for smoking only, at the Hilton! Thanks to everyone who put up with my whining ~.~;;

Hi, I'm Ju.ko.chan or Jewlz! I'm here to know about hotel rental and tickets.
I want to know if there are discounts for renting a hotel. The reason is that my club is trying to raise money for hotel rental and tickets. I'm having problems with that and also the people who are responsible for the Fanime convention(one person has been to one before). So, I need to know more about hotel rental and if there are any discounts on hotel rental.
Thank you!
Juko, the prices listed are very discounted from the normal hotel prices. The room I'm getting, for example, a one-bedded room at the Hilton, if you book through the Fanime housing page, costs $79 a night. The same room on the Hilton website is at least $189 a night.
If you need to book a lot of rooms though, I'd suggest calling the housing comission directly, they might be able to work out a package deal or something for you. They're super friendly and helpful, and do the best they can to save you money :)

Most of the information are on the website or like the previous poster said, call the housing committee about it. It's best to do it as soon as possible since the rooms are filling up quick.

Does anyone know the status of the construction that the Crowne Plaza is doing?
I remember last year that there was some construction going on in the lobby floor, and I was wondering for the sake of others if that construction is already done or is slated to finish before Fanime '08
I already reserved my room a month ago. I'll be staying at the Marriot Hotel.

Sorry to be picky, but according to the hotel list, there are only 24 rooms left at the Sainte Claire. But, if you look at the break down, it says there are 117 room nights left. Which is the accurate number, or am I reading it wrong somehow?
Let me crack at it.
For those 24 rooms that are left, they share 117 room nights.
ESTIMATED ROOM+TAX TOTAL: $280.68

The numbers posted may not be entirely up to date, depending on when you made your reservation. But if you got a confirmation email from CMR and a confirmation number, you definitely have a booking.
Ah, yeah I did. Thanks!
I have a question about this statement
"They are not offering up any additional rooms to FanimeCon, so once they are gone, there is nothing left."
Does this mean Fanimecon took up all the available rooms at the mariott hotel and there would be no more available rooms for people who aren't booking rooms for the purpose of attending Fanime? or does that just mean that Fanime wouldn't be able to ask for more rooms if the contracted rooms got sold out?
I believe the Marriot is sold out...

The hotels have a specific number of rooms that they can offer us, because they need to hold a certain of rooms for Flight Crews, Executive Members and others, we can only take a what they offer us and at this point they have nothing more to offer us, unless they get corporate permission to release additional rooms.

Does that mean Fanime took all the rooms that aren't reserved for special use?
Because I'm planning to stay at mariott for Fanime weekend but not through the Fanime registration/prices and I was wondering if there would be any rooms left for the public that isn't registering through Fanime.

For the record, you will probably not find an open room for Friday - Saturday - Sunday nights at the Marriott if you are outside of the FanimeCon rooming block, especially on Saturday night, the hotel only has 400 rooms and we're taking 375 of those, and what's left is contracted to various other parties, like airlines and high executive members of Marriott.
Craige...
My sister change hotels and now I'm staying at the Hilton.
D: Uh oh. OK I'm going to be keeping an eye on this like a hawk now. Hopefully someone will cancel at the Marriot for Sunday soon.
I don't want to have to stay at the Fairmont. :(
Im a noob on reserving hotels but since the San Jose Crowne plaza charges 99.00. Does that mean they will be charging 99 a night for 3 people or what
The prices listed are per room, per night, yes. So if you were staying two nights, it would be 198 (plus taxes), split between three people, so just over 66 per person.
:D :D :D :D
WOOHOO! Just got my single bed room at the Marriot for Fri-Mon!
WOOHOO I'M SO EXCITED!
Thank god I made my reservations when I did! It was hard finding room for 16 people but I did it! ^^ Thanks Crowne!
w00t! I just booked my room at the Marriott! I found that if you go straight to their website they still have rooms (though slightly expensive). I do wish I had booked earlier.
Wow I thought the way Fanime was selling out this year was crazy...
I tried to get a hotel room for Gen Con (a huge fantasy gaming convention in Indianapolis) and the closet they had left was 8+ miles away. Housing had only been online for like 3 weeks (they open con housing service on the 4th of Feb.). Luckily I was able to book separately through Hotels.com only .8 miles away (though I didn't get the con rate).
*sigh* I hope Fanime never gets that bad... hehe
Mordyan, love your avvie/sig. =D
Does the rooms available/unavailable roster refer to rooms fanime has offered at their discounted price, or do the figures refer to the hotel in its entirety?
Those are the listings for the Fanime blocks, but I believe the Hilton is nearly full-up otherwise as well, since the con booked a large block of the rooms and the rest are put aside for pilots and Hilton HHonors members. Not sure about the other hotels though.
Hey Craige,
Don't know if you know, but does this selling out of rooms seem to indicate that more people are coming to Fanime this year or that more people have decided to get rooms? I'm not sure what the pre-reg numbers are like, but it sure seems like a ton more people are going to be around!

I think it's a mixture of both.
For example, every year you have a large handful of people who are attending for the first time. They may not have much money because they don't really know what to expect, and if they live in the area they don't really see the value of getting a hotel room, or rather, they don't feel they should spend the unnecessary funds to get a hotel room. Then, they go to Fanime and notice all the awesome stuff going on all night long, that they get tired and wish they had a place nearby to actually go rest, or take a quick shower or whatever. So these first-year attendees say "I know! Next year I'll get a hotel room! It'll be great!" So they save up with their friends and reserve a room. That's one (hypothetical) reason.
And yes, Fanime is growing. It would be silly to say that this rapid reservation of hotel rooms isn't the slightest bit affected by an increase in attendees. Where are we going to get those first-year attendees if new people don't keep coming?
Anyways, I would speculate that it is a mixture of both former first-year Fanime goers getting rooms this year and the continued growth of Fanime as a convention. Last I checked we ranked in the top 5 largest anime conventions last year. Then again, the attendance drop between AX and us is like 30,000 people lol.
yeah i just live far enough from San Jose to where it would be completely ridiculous to go to Fanime and then back home and then back to Fanime...I would hardly be able to enjoy all of what goes on. So its a room at the Hilton each year for me! :D

Hi, Registration numbers are up by about 25%. There are a number of other factors, including those who were in college during the first couple of years that Fanime moved to San Jose and they couldn't attend all four days, but maybe one or two days and now that they are working, thus have the money and time to attend Fanime full time. There is the factor dealing with increased attendees registration and how it affects the number of rooms that is needed. Yes, the factor of the 24 hours of Programming affects of attendees who realize that they need some place to crash and sleep and don't want to drive home. There are other factors that affect the growing room usage count.
Just booked my room at the Marriott! They actually still have rooms available. Way more expensive though. I'm debating on booking it for 3 days instead of 4. Hum.........

Trying to find out if you over paid or were charged the right amount.

sorry I posted in the wrong place
I'm paying $149 a day for a total of $498 for 4 days F-M. I guess I'm over paying. I should have booked earlier. Oh well! :D
Why no updates? I have my room (Thank God and planning in advance), but I have a sick enjoyment seeing how many people are going and how full the hotels are.
Are the hotels just so completely packed that it's not worth posting anymore? Are you busy?
It could be perhaps that Staff has alot more things to worry about (setting up the rest of the con) than to update a page :P
According to the housing page on the website, it's closed now, so I'm figuring that means it's just totally full.
I'm really glad I pushed for the room I wanted this year >< I was told rooms would probably clear up closer to the end of the con, but that never happened, as far as I can tell.
No kidding. In past years I thought I was being anal booking a room in December as soon as housing opened up, but this year I'm glad I did!

W0rd. Seriously though, it should be made perfectly clear that reserving a room DOES NOT COST YOU A PENNY! People who have access to credit cards should seriously take advantage of the system as soon as it gets online...as you can cancel it up to the week before the convention.
Moral of the story: Get room early!
Just remember though that some people still have slots open, and are willing to negotiate a cheaper price with you then the Hotel.
Like instead of paying $125/day for yourself...you could share a room and get $125 TOTAL.
