For all the crossdressing cosplayers!
okay. well there was a sticky about this last year but i dont think they have one right now. i really need help. well i decided that i want to cosplay as sasuke but then there was one problem.....my boobs got in the way. i decided i would just tape them down like last year....welll.....it seems that they have gotten bigger since then and now i have asthma....i need help. any one have any good tips on how i can get my boobs to stay down while allowing me to breath? if u need to know im like...a 34 B...i think. aha. maby an A. but around a B. plz help meeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, this is only a suggestion, buuuut why not go as a "SnJ Sasuke"? We had quiet a few good female Sasuke's last year. Just dont do anything thats gonna endanger your health.
Lol, that's actually something I was thinking about too! xD Since Sasuke's latest look is kinda. . . well, to put it bluntly, revealing of the chest (*cough*) it'd be hard for any girl to cosplay as him. . . I considered using a chest wrap and wearing one of those sheer shirts over it or something. . . but I don't think it would work for someone with a bigger chest ^^; Sorry
And, for crossdressers, I personally think it'd be easier to just pick someone who actually wears a shirt (ex. I'm doing Allen Walker from D.Gray-Man)
There's really no shame in crossdressing for a cosplay. If it's too much of a hassle, leave your boobs as they are, and don't worry about them. I'm sure plenty of cosplayers will understand if you can't have the perfect cosplay. But if you want to try, then what you might want to do is wear a sports bra. It shouldn't be too tight or restrict you, and it may get them down a bit more. I've already tested that out for my Haku(Naruto) cosplay, and it works fairly well. Hope that helps :D
wow. thanks for the help. i might try out the sports bra idea. someone pm'ed me about a compression shirt. if anyone has ever used one and has a pic plz post!
If you have asthma, I wouldn't recommend going with things that restrict you below the bra-line. If you've ever worn things like corsets or control tops, you'll know that having your upper abdomen (where your diaphragm is) makes breathing difficult enough without the medical conditions.
I'd try an Ace bandage or two; cheap, already flesh-toned (though a sheer shirt would be a wise choice as well for chest-baring costumes), and they come with hooks. You can adjust the tightness of them, in case you need to let yourself breathe at some point during the day, and you can put it on so it only covers your boobs and not the muscle that moves your lungs up and down. They're pretty good about not slipping, but you may have to take a bathroom break to reapply. Even if they DO slip, they don't leave such obvious lines under and shirts you may be wearing. Plus, they can go directly over skin, unlike tape, if you want to forgo the bra - though I've found that leaving the bra on gives it something to stick to.
My two (or twenty) cents. >.>
EDIT: A friend just linked me to this (http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=15709), definitely worth checking out.
wow! thanks! allo these replys are really helping. i hope that this will help anyone thinking of crossplaying! cuz its really helping me
As stated don't do anything that will jeopardize your health. We don't want anyone dieing at Fanime because they want to pull off the perfect costume. One thing that's always nice about cosplaying is adding a slight personal touch to your costume. So don't restrict your boobs, just let them be. You could always be sex change sasuke. Lol.
......if you tape those down I promise I will cry. Please just go as Sasuke and no one will mind the chest region.
You know it really is fun to crossplay. I was Lucy from Elfen Lied for Halloween.
aha. i dont think i wanna die at fanime either....i wouldnt be able to glomp that many people. aha. well today at school i tried the ace bandeges and sports bra method.......it worked but......it did start to restrict my air flow.....but i kinda got used to it. it turned out okay....alot of people thought i was a guy. my friiend was walking behind me and said i totaly look like a dude! i started to helluah crack up. i think im going to try out that compression shirt soon.
I'm happy that it worked out for you :) Hope to see you there!
hope to see you there too. i would really love to meet you and show off my fake manly pecks!
Me too XD It'll be cool to see you there, in all your awesome glory of Sasuke. Maybe we could go outside and perform a little battle between our tow characters (Saskue<you> vs Haku<me>)! XDDDDD Can't wait till Fanime!
:D I wish to also battle you. You see I, as you are, amd crossplaying. But, unlike you, I am Naruto! So how about our characters have . . . >:( A BATTLE OF THE CHEST!!!!! It will proove who can hide theres better. (Ive like a B-C) Who ever loses must buy Pocky for the other! Agreed? :)

My friend Trish is going to crossplay as Axel, and Axel has really tight-fitting clothes. So what she's going to do is wear a sports bra then put a tank top over it and bandage over the largest part of her chest. Then she's going to let her costume do the rest. Since Sasuke wears more comfortable, loose-fitting clothes, this idea could help and not get in the way of your breathing. 8D

That sounds like a good plan
Yeah Im in the same boat as you!!! My boobs are going to make an Able Nightroad cosplay hard... I think Iam going to use the sports bra & banage method... This forum has help with ideas!! THANKS!!!!!! ;D
Okay, now I've got a problem with my body...my hips! I'm considering just making my clothes around my mid section just baggy to disguise them, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'd like to hear them. Thanks!
It depends on the character, but yes, if you can tailor the lines of your costume to hide hips, that helps. Get some muslin and make a practice version, so you can work on the seams and adjustments before going the final.
If you have time to visit cosplay.com, there's tons of great advice on everything from safe binding methods, to padding, to how to stand and pose differently to enhance a crossplay.
Thanks! *scribbling down notes* Okay, I'm gonna see what I can do. Thank you soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!
This is a pic from Fanime 2006 (I think). The young lady is cosplaying a character from One Piece (the Skypeia arc) of a male character who is bare-chested and has wings on his back. She is wearing a body suit (sorry I don't know what she is wearing underneath :-X) with markings to look like tattoos. In case you wanted to consider something like this under the white shirt for Sasuke. You might not need as much binding. ;)
(https://forums.fanime.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi57.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg235%2FBunofGovt%2FDSC00124.jpg&hash=f3066f1f6ee38d18e4f24f1ba35c3087808bfd65)
SHOOT!!! I didn't even think about my hips!!! But the I could probably ajust the outfit to work.... For others doing this try making the shirt (if possible) to hang down from your shoulders in a straight line, this should give your body a less curvy appearence!!!

Wow... I don't know if I should pity him or envy him. But, I hope that you do crossplay as Naruto! It'll be so awesome to see 2 crossplayed Narutos (You and Kenie)

awesome. maybe I'll bump into you when I'm out of Gatherings and actually shopping! XD
lol Well let me know a time and place before the con starts and I can meet you there. I also need more people with me at the raves. XD Those are pretty fun but not alone. XP
I'd much rather leave it to fate; that's how I met alot of people at Fanime, along with my friends that I'd randomly bump into. But I supose a little insurance would be good. But we'll have to wait till about April to iron out the details. What do you think?
same here. i say we wait till may to decide a place and time to meet up. cuz we have like...., 5 months. aha.
actually, it's more like 4, but same thing. btw, do any of you know how to breath in a corsette(sp?), cuz, I'd like to put one on my dress for the Black and White Ball. In case you get confused, I meant the thing that goes around your waist, the thing that squeezes you till you're blue in the face
lol Yeah true. XD
you dont want to put the corsett on to tight put it on and tighten it more on the bottom then the top and only tighten it untill its barly restricting air flow. i had to wear one for a wedding. i hated it.
lol. I know, but you get the basic idea. I saw a booth with them at Fanime last year, and wanted to put one of them on a dress I plan to make. It fit fine and stuff, but I know that not all places carry the right size, so I just wanna know, should it end up being too tight or something.
omg! for some odd reason...i wanna make a purse out of duct tape. aha. if it turns out nice ill bring it to fanime.
awesome. ^^ Duct tape is lots of fun. I hope the purse turns out good.
me too. aha. or i will have just wasted alot of duct tape.....aha
"Silence is golden but duct tape is sliver!!!" ;D
omg! aha! thats sooo cool...!
omg! i just noticed.......we totally got off topic! aha.
Back to work then, Anyone know a good brand of temperary hair dye or spray??? I need some for my cosplay!!!!!
not really sorry...i found a good one but i forgot the name...ill go check when i have time tho.
well, it really depends on what color you need your hair to be. I don't know any, but my Aniki does. So what color is it that you need?
My hair needs to be white or sliver which is a hard color to find, so any help you can offer will be great!!!!!
sorry, I can't help you there. I'm more used to blues, reds, greens, and browns and blondes, not silver. You could always go to a wig store and buy one.
yea...shes right...white and silver arnt verry popular towards most people so its not easy to find.
thus why I suggested a wig. Wigs are fun, easy, and you won't be damaging or killing your owm hair
emo: Should I still do Itachi then? XD
Well the only problem with a wig is that...well...how to put this... Iam clumsy...VERY clumsy(Ive ran into my own doorknob before, triped up stairs, knocked over a candle and almost burt down my friend's house, gotten smashed in an automatic car door, tripped over my desk in school and slamed my head into the white board...the list goes on and on...Actually its part of the reason Abel Nightroad is a good cosplay for me...)...The wig would probably fall off and get tangled beyound repair...But I'll look into it...Maybe I could get a wig to stay on! YAY!!! lets be possitive and try it out with a cheap wig 1st!!! *runs off to try wig, results pending.*
added 1-11-08 8:08 am
The wig didn't work very well, I just have too much hair. I shall continue my hunt for temp dye/spary!!!
oh, I'm sorry. I'll see what I can find.
btw, did you put on a hair net when you tried on the wig? And did you clip your hair down, cuz those things help when you have lots of hair and stuff

shes right...a wig cap can help alot and makes it easy to put on a wig....having a wig cap also kind of helps keep the wig on....

No I haven't had time! *hangs head in shame* and I have NO idea where to even find wigs...
You can find wig shops around that specifically sells wigs by searching it up on google. Actually, any place that sells wigs should have wig caps as well. ^^
I'm kinda glad I don't have to worry about it cuz I have short hair (which I didn't really cut on purpose, but oh well *shrug*) I'm just using wig clips and pin curling, since the wig comes with a cap. ^^;
cool! ^ ^ I don't have to worry about wigs, just straightening my own hair and getting the accessories done right

To be quite honest I usually don't have to do wigs because I always try to pick characters with the right kind of hair!!! Which is why I am not knowing what to do with this new project...
its okay! your not alone! i do that too

Don't let people pressure you into anything!!! My friends want me to cut it short but I liike my long hair! If you like your hair short don't let other peoples opions effect you!!!
Anyways I tend to cosplay as guys with long hair~Its fun! :)
lol of course it's fun! and easier for us, ne?

Soooooooooo much easier!!! :D
tell me about it. whenever i go, i make sure to not do blonds or red heads, cuz i'm a brunette
I a brunette too, so I usually cosplay darked haired guys, but this year is an exception!
Haha, this is gonna be the first year of Fanime where I'm cosplaying all male characters (usually there's at least one female thrown in there). xD And it will also be the first time I'm binding my chest for it.
I am using some splints (wraps you use for a sprain or something) that my mom's got (she's a school nurse), and they seem to work fine. I got my chest almost completely flat! My mom's friend suggested to me just yesterday that I should take a piece of sheet, wrap it around my chest to my back, and wrap the splints over it, so it doesn't make markings on my skin, so I'm gonna try that out soon.
It did restrict my breathing somewhat though, so I might have to fix that...
never......i mean, NEVER use plastic wrap......it works....untill you start to sweat......just dont do it....EVER!

Yeah, splints work wonders!!! You can buy them at drug stores, I think there pretty cheap, but I can't remember. As for how to get back your air, try wrapping it looser but with more layars, I am not sure it'll work, but its worth a try!!!

Plastic wrap? xD The thought never occurred to me, but it sounds extremely uncomfortable! xP At least now I know I'll never be doing that... xD
I find it amazing that some people actually use duct tape... I've never done it, it sounds really painful to take off... >.< But apparently a lot of people do it, does it work well or something?

I don't know about duct tape on breasts but my friend once went a whole week with shoes made out of duct tape that were wrapped around her feet and she claimed it didn't hurt at all when she unwraped them...But I think it would hurt!!!

Damn, that's pretty hardcore. xD Maybe she has a high-tolerance of pain though. But then again, I think duct tape dulls a bit after a while, so it might have been less painful considering how long she kept them on.

Well no argument there. xD Maybe duct tape isn't as painful as everybody makes it out to be, but I'm not gonna risk it... xP
My friend supposedly used to do it sometimes, and she complained about the pain... x_x But I guess she liked having her chest flat enough to deal with it. She loves to be mistaken for a guy. =P
QuotePlastic wrap? xD The thought never occurred to me, but it sounds extremely uncomfortable! xP At least now I know I'll never be doing that... xD
Nooo, DO NOT... USE PLASTIC WRAP! I don't even need to try it to know that's a bad idea. Plastic wrap
doesn't breathe, and it wouldn't help you bind your chest anyway, as it stretches pretty far. It's bad for your skin, and it's guaranteed to be uncomfortable.
QuoteI find it amazing that some people actually use duct tape... I've never done it, it sounds really painful to take off... >.< But apparently a lot of people do it, does it work well or something?
Duct tape does work well, but it's very stiff and uncomfortable. It works out aesthetically, though. IMO, the best alternative is to use sports bandages. They come in sizes for your chest, and they sell them at local drug stores. If you're an A to a small C, the bandages would do fine on its own. If any larger, than you can duct tape over it, rather than apply duct tape directly onto your skin.
QuoteI don't know about duct tape on breasts but my friend once went a whole week with shoes made out of duct tape that were wrapped around her feet and she claimed it didn't hurt at all when she unwraped them...But I think it would hurt!!!
Haha... that sounds sort of unhygienic, but since she wore it so long, it shouldn't have hurt upon unwrapping them. For one, her feet have not breathed in an entire week-- dead skin pretty much made up the entire outer layer of her feet, while her body kept regenerating new skin underneath. Also, the protective oils on her skin would've dissolved the adhesive after a while.
So... again. Better alternative? Sports bandages.
Banages, yes, I think their the way to go!!!
Thanks very much for the helpful tips and feedback, Jun-Watarase! And, yeah, I'm merely an A, so making my chest flat won't be much of a chore anyways. But there is always the breathing thing and comfort level to consider as well. =]

Though visiting saunas sounds wonderful, not to mention,
healthy. D:
That's sweating from heat and... uh, not from your body dying from lack of oxygen. If you consider dieting, don't be the millions of people who are too lazy to maintain a healthy diet (not starve themselves) and exercise regularly. Most of the short-cuts people take are frighteningly unhealthy.
Back to cosplay, though. The bandages are a bit tight in the beginning, but because you're an A cup, it should only take a few minutes for you to get used to them. Though they do tightly bind around your chest, they do loosen slightly, according to your movements, and possibly stretch a teensy bit where you need it to, over time. This also means that you might need to readjust once in a while in the bathroom or something, but it's no big deal. What are you trying to cosplay?
Ok this going to sound a little odd, and its embarassing, but does anyone have any tips for binding cup sizes lager then a C??? If you do thats great!!! If not its no big deal I'll figure it out.

Ah, well that's a relief. After all, the slight problematic breathing wasn't too bad, so if it should get better later on, then I think I can definitely handle it. Thanks again.

No problem, and good luck with your cosplay. Though, I'd advise you to use safety pins instead of the little hooks the bandages already come with. Sometimes they fall off, especially if you bend and the bandage contracts to your shape. Safety pins take a bit longer to apply and remove, but they're much more secure.

They're less comfortable than the bandages alone, but very effective. I don't know of any more comfortable methods of binding for large chests, as this method is pretty tight when done properly. At first, I'd be uncomfortable to breathe. You'll eventually get used to it, but I think it'd be safer to head to your hotel room every couple of hours to unbind and rest for a bit.

Agreed. D= Besides, a bigger chest brings up a lot of cosplay opportunities, considering how proportional many fictional (particularly anime/game) characters are.

Oho~ We're the same age. I've been cosplaying since before and after puberty, so I've had that difference. Though, despite cosplaying for that long, I'm far from pro and my costumes aren't
extremely impressive. Just enough to show my love for characters that I've done. When I was younger, I was more concentrated on shounen anime instead, so I crossplayed as boys more often. Not all anime characters have large breasts, though. Flat chested characters, now-a-days, are equally as popular.

aha. wow...i recently went shopping and found out am a c cup now...it totally sucks.....
You're a C-cup. This is somehow a BAD thing? Tons of girls would envy you for your chest size! Especially us puny Asians. ;A;
Agreed. D= Besides, a bigger chest brings up a lot of cosplay opportunities, considering how proportional many fictional (particularly anime/game) characters are.
...Plus, I don't think I'm (probably) ever growing out of an A-cup, so... You have something I'll probably never have. D=
Yes having a bigger chest brings up female cosplay opportunities, but I prefer to cosplay as guys and it just complicates things...

Ok this going to sound a little odd, and its embarassing, but does anyone have any tips for binding cup sizes lager then a C??? If you do thats great!!! If not its no big deal I'll figure it out.
I typed a little about it on a previous post.
QuoteQuoteI find it amazing that some people actually use duct tape...
Thanks for the tips I think I am going to try to go from a D to an A!!!!! Or at least thats my goal...
I'm... not sure if there's a natural way to lose breast mass other than having breast-reduction surgery done. You could lose some by excersizing and losing weight, but I don't think it could change so significantly as from a D-cup to an A. The duct-tape over sports bandages should be totally fine. I mean, a lot of female crossplayers have large breasts and simply put up with the tightness of binding. You won't be crossplaying 24/7, hopefully.
AHHHH!!!!! SORRY!!!!!! My last message was misconstuied!!!!!! I meant I hope to be able to BIND my boobs down to an A!!! Sorry if I confused you!!!!
What...in the world are you talking about Nightroad?! o.o;
You can try using ace bandages....

HAHAHA. Oh! You scared me a bit.
But yeah, just go with the bandages. If that doesn't please you, duct tape over it. The mass won't disappear, but having them in the right shape under the binding would make it look flat. It'll be a little thicker than the rest of your body, but if you're wearing clothing over it, you'll appear flat-chested. And again, if you do do this... remember to occasionally go to your hotel room to rest and unbind for a while.

Wow, that thing looks like it actually works pretty well... o_o Though I don't have money to spare, I think this could probably help some of the girls who have a bigger chest (unlike me).
i found some for around 20 bucks
what's your limit?

$20.00? That's pretty cheap. o.o
I don't really have a limit; Its just that I currently don't have a job, and I need the money for making my cosplays, and buying my Fanime ticket (which I have yet to do), and paying for my share for the hotel room I'm staying in... So I really can't afford to buy anything other than those things. ;__; Though, since I'm an A-cup the splints I use work fine (it doesn't take much), so luckily I can probably stick to that.
