Hello,
I remember in years past having a stamp rally going on, with daily (sometimes hourly) drawings for anime DVDs, sets and other merchandise. I thought that this was pretty awesome. It's a great way to get fans who may not have brought a lot of money to the convention a chance at some sweet swag.
I think what you did was 10 stamps=a shirt that you had a bunch of extras (the Dear Friends final fantasy concert ones) or entries into a drawing. So the person could choose whether they wanted the shirt or to chance it on a DVD set or something.
The stamp locations were all around downtown as well, which was pretty awesome. You could also have hidden stamps, with cosplayer hints or something. If you found that person you could get 2 or 3 stamps instead of the usual 1.
I don't know, I just really like the idea. I hope it comes back.
Sounds cool!
that sounds like a good idea......
Kinda reminds me of what i like back then when i was a kid %^ ^!!!
I missed this event the first time it came around and I vowed to try and go at it the next year.
But it never happened.
I'd love to do this, as I only heard nothing but good from the last one.
If we get enough people wanting to do this a few of us here could be carrying some special stamps ourselves. ;D
I did think it was actually a very good idea. The problem that the department had in previous years was that there was not enough staff to cover all the locations. We had all of these various locations inside and outside of con(ex. Peggy Sue's, Quickly's, etc.), but some of these stations were empty simply because we didn't have enough staff to cover them, which is a bit unfair to those who went out of their way to go there only to find no booth there. They ended up disbanding the department, partially because no other FanimeCon staff wanted to head the department and the previous stamp rally head ended up leaving.
I think if you guys want to do it, I'd recommend bringing it up with one of the division heads(preferrably talk to either Milton[MPLe] or Eric[ewu]) and maybe one of them might be able to work something out. It might mean that you may have to join staff or even become the Stamp Rally manager for it to become a reality, but manpower was really one of the main reasons the department dissolved so it's worth thinking about.
From my experience as staff there, the amount of prizes we could buy through FanimeCon was limited since we had a set spending budget, so we managed to get a few sponsors for the rally. There are really countless ways of getting prizes so... yeah. It's not that hard to set up once you've planned the stuff.
But yeah, it's a good idea. If it comes back, I'd definitely help out with it in some way.
No offense to anyone, but I didn't have a good experience the first time round on it.
I remember getting to the Art Museum, and being told there was no stamp, or the person wasn't there yet, or something along those lines. Being that I had set time out, along with my friends, to walk around downtown to find the locations, it was rather discouraging.
Perhaps, if it is brought back, make the locations a bit closer and make SURE that someone is there 24/7? Or put a set of certain hours when the stamps will be available? (IE: 10AM-3PM) I dunno, just my 2 cents.

We had the staff ready to do it, but when it came down to actually staffing the various Stamp Rally sections, people weren't showing up to their shifts and we couldn't get people replaced in a fast enough time. We ended up disbanding Stamp Rally because the cost+man power wasn't worth the rewards. In the end, we would have a few staffers working 12+ hours on their day off.

You could talk to either Eric or myself, yes.

I don't feel like going too much into the subject of the budget, but I'll say that the budget wasn't an issue...

The first year was extremely rocky, I will admit, but we had signs posted that the off-site locations were only open certain hours.

I honestly don't recall seeing any, but if you say there were signs, I'm sure there were.
If you do bring this back, just please make it closer to the convention center. I, personally, didn't like having to stray that far from the convention center.

I think I did that stamp rally, and I still have a Fanime bracelet thing from completing a stamp rally one year. I don't remember where things were posted, but I do remember having information about hours and having to take hours into account when I plotted my course. Even still, some of the art galleries weren't organized yet, and they were very slow about getting ready. For several of the galleries, I think our group got the first stamps because I had to wait quite a while for some of the galleries to figure out where their stamps were.
I enjoyed that stamp rally a lot. I found it interesting to walk all over downtown in spite of all the exertion and summer heat.

AW MAN I missed that..
last time it was was back in 06 :(
I think if this was brought back to Fanime, then it should be downsized to just the convention grounds. Start out small again in '09, see how things go, then expand to downtown in 2010.
I think like a year after the stamp rally was first introduced...maybe not..but they did it again with it being only on the convention grounds. Unfortunately as it wasn't publicized much, not many people participated...Lucky for me that meant that I had a better chance of winning and I got a DVD set! Basically the stamps were at different events throughout the con. That seemed to work pretty well! If there are not enough volunteers for the event, then maybe it should be restricted to one day only so that its easier!
in the end, this won't happen unless someone stepped up and would head it (w/ all the reqs for a div head) and could drum up the staff to run it....
:)
