Title: Hotel Questions
Post by: Rainbow Ichi on January 14, 2008, 10:34:39 PM
I have never reserved through the Fanime website yet. But i have a couple of questions.

1. Once I reserve through the website, is it cancellable?
2. Can I reserve on my own rather then through the website?
3. I'm just one person reserving, my bro's reserving on his own separate room, is it advisable to grab a double bedded 1-room or just one?
4. Risks of sharing a room?

*will add more soon*

1.  Yes it is cancelable.  Up to a couple of days before the con IIRC.
2.  Yes you can, but it will be much more expensive.
3.  Depends.  Do you mind sleeping with your brother in the room?  Can you get along for the weekend?  Does one of you snore?  It will be cheaper to share a room.
4.  Sleep loss do to differing schedules.  Getting your stuff mixed up.  Bathroom sharing issues.  If you're brothers I'm sure you've lived with each other before so I'd think you'd know what to expect.

Hi Rainbow Ichi,

To answer your questions,

1.  Yes.  However, if you are cancelling it is best to do it though the call center and not the web site, because it will be faster and they can give you a reference number for the cancellation.  You can cancel up to one week prior to the start of the convention, but if you are late by one day with the cancellation you will be charged with one full day rate for the room.

2.  No.  If you attempt to book a room at the hotels or through their reservation system, you will be refered to either the Fanime web site or the call center (CMR).  If you do get a room through the hotel reservation system or the hotel and CMR finds out, it is a violation of the contract that we have with the hotels and their will be pentlies for it.

3.  The cost will be cut in half, you would have to pay for a single bedded room about $79.00 plus city tax and hotel tax for about $100.00.  The cost for a two bedded room would be $130.00 with all the taxes.  So, you pay a $100.00 a night or split the cost and pay $65.00 per night.  However, if you wanted to share the same bed with your Bro, the cost would be $50.00 per night.

4.  Lose of privacy, conflicting schedules, your Bro or you bringing to the room midnight friends who want to talk until the early hours of the morning.  On the other hand, the positive side of the house is that you have someone to talk who knows you and can relate to what you are seeing at Fanime.

Craige...

As far as I know, the card number is just for security purposes, to verify you really do intend to take the room, and to charge a penalty if (and only if) you don't show up without cancelling beforehand.

You can make changes to your reservation, including dropping days (or adding them if there's a room available, I'm sure), up to the 19th of May, according to the page. After that, the hotel will likely charge you an early cancellation fee, possibly up to the entire cost of the room for one night.

5) Your card will not be charged until the day you check-in. From what I understand, (maybe I'm wrong) the card that was used to hold the room must at least BE PRESENT at time of check-in. However, let's say for example that the card you reserved it with doesn't have quite enough, but you have a credit card as well. As long as you present the card you held the room with at check in, it doesn't matter how you pay for it after that (with ID of course). IMPORTANT! Remember there is a deposit. Both marriott AND Hilton (last year at least) charge $50/night deposit upon check-in. Now, my card is a bit weird so it was really slow going, but that means you should be prepared to have the cost of the room +150 dollars covered on whatever card you are using to check in. For example, if your total bill is $300 for 3 nights, they will charge you $450 upon check-in, with the extra 150 being refunded to your account within a matter of 2-3 business days. This does, however, mean that you will not have access to that money during Fanime. PLEASE be prepared for this. From what I understand they also accept checks? Craige may have to confirm that.

6) Basically, what Moonblossom said. Any changes can be made up to a week before the convention at no charge. After that, cancellation of ANY or ALL nights will most likely result in the same fee: One full night +tax. Which basically means, if you want to save money on a room by cancelling one night and  there's less than a week to go, don't. It'll just nullify itself.

-How do I keep my stuff if I can only check in at 4pm O_O???
-Any chance I can check in early? I don't want to lug 2casesx24bottles ea around that would be like dragging your house around @_@

If you call ahead of time, you can request early check-in. It's not guaranteed, but they will make a note that you asked for a room early, so if one is prepared you may get it.

If not, most hotels have a concierge service room, which is basically a big locker room where they can store your stuff until you're ready too check in.
