Oh, wonderful...
I guess that's the current hollywood meme. Lately it's been youth-oriented fantasy, looks like it's heading towards re-interpretations of Japanese properties.
Don't get me wrong - Akira was pretty good. But I don't really want to see a live-action version, and I'm going to be chafing at all of the comments about anime that are likely to spring up about this. I can see DiCaprio now in interviews - "oh, I really am a big fan of Japanese Animes. I've seen a lot of animes." News shows re-discovering anime and Japanese pop-culture. Get ready for phrases and terms like "Japanimation" and "Japanese Animation: or as fans call it, ah-nee-may". ::)
Two movies. Ergh. Everything about this is really unnecessary.
Expect them to be fairly passable by mainstream standards, but not at all worthwhile for purists.
I think it could work IF the material is treated right. I have no desire to see an "updated American" Akira. The live action would work for me if they did it in the style of something like Sin City or 300.

It sounds more like it is based on the manga than the animated movie. But Gawd!!! I hate the term
Japanamation! Wouldn't a more accurate term be "Animation
from Japan?
TETSUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
KANEDDDDDDDDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!
I heard it's going to take place in New Manhattan instead of Neo Tokyo, I don't know if I'm going to watch this when it comes out, I'll just stick with the original one.
i won't lie, that was actually kinda funny.
j
New Manhattan... I see, well, might as well call this movie "Joe" instead of "Akira".

Seriously... I mean, won't it be a little odd if a bunch of white guys have Japanese names...?
I expect they'll be pronouncing it "Uh-KEE-ruh".
I might give it a shot, I'll check it out
The idea that they are breaking it up into two movies in order to tell more of the story sounds interesting,...but I still hate this. I know hollywood is mangle this up. New manhattan is still confirmed only to be a rurmor at this point, so I'll give them some benefit of the doubt.
I expect disappointment
>: like how aeon flux dissapointed me

Don't know why, but when I read this... I felt the urge to pronounce it that way in a very manly voice. :V
Lovely... I have to give it a chance since I'm so in love with that movie and always have been but I'm sure I'll be disappointed, perhaps shattered by the American adaptation. ( ̄へ ̄)

Haha, you just made me do it... *Feels like a loser* x3
Oh dear lord. When are people going to realize that good anime (or bad) into a live action doesn't make a great show. No offense, but especially americanized stuffs. Bleck X_x;
I mean... look at that horrid looking speed racer film coming out. Not going to watch it. But curiosity may get the better of me and I may watch it at the dollar theater... or rent it... or pira- I mean borrow it from a friend. Not something I would put money into
Seriously it's impossible for the minds of the Hollywood writers of now to comprehend what Akira was really about.
What Akira to them might just be, flashy future, with awesome bike scenes. And that would be it.
When Akira, both the manga and the anime movie, held a better story than any one can make.
Why are they even trying. If they try to be honest and stick to the original, the movie isn't gonna come out, soccer moms will freaking boycott it because it will be past Rated R, the gore, the death, by itself can't be contained in live action because it was perfect in the anime!
Here's my say, Japanese animes, if needed to make a live action should be done by Japanese Film companies.
If American cartoons get live actions, Americans should make the live actions on their own cartoon.
Because the Americans know more about that type of story than they do in a different type of culture story.
You wouldn't want a Japanese Superman and changing Metropolis to Akihabara, so why the fuck would you want to make an American live action of a Japanese anime.
Just for once, I wanna piss off Hollywood by taking their ideas and making an ass out of it like what they have done with the past remakes of asian movies lately.
Someone seems to be half a year on track... xD
Well, the only thing I'm looking for is cool real looking CG TETSUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO arm.
