so basically i have been spending the last week or so looking at all these posts about how signs are baned and how the detract from the con experience and posts about how glomping is just sexual assault or is just wrong or other things to that extent. and at this point i have been saying my views as they are part of the con experience and no one can do away with them but i will agree that there are several different view points.
for signs from what i have gathered people don't like them because they are just "attention whoring" and people are just being lazy. others find it fun because they act upon the signs and receive those free hugs or glomp the person. and now on my personal experience i have noticed that signs are often a strange and mildly perverse ice breaker to make new friends and meet awesome people at cons. and besides that who here would miss bart boys osaka rides the bart sign i know i would. my suggestion to end this debate is that people who don't like signs should in all honesty just ignore them it is actually possible to walk by them and think in your head "that persons being a tard and is just to lazy to wear a costume" and keep going where as the people like my self can spaz out and look like an idiot and take that free hug and be like "LOL OMG YOU ARE SO COOL". but thats just my opinion
the other major topic in a heated debate is the glomp i have read around that people have had bad experiences dont like to be touched have been stolen from and sexually assaulted via the glomp. there have been many suggestions on how to fix this and one of them is to make it against con rules to glomp or make it extreamly frowned upon. i also agree that this can get totaly out of hand and can hurt....a lot but i have noticed that deep down (for most of them at least) they are just a slightly awkward pat on the back and a congrats for doing a good job or having a common interest as another person. i also agree that there should be some ground rules for the glomp like how a heads up or just asking (when i say heads up i mean shouting at the person "OMG ______ CAN I GLOMP YOU!?!?!") so that way for either situation they have the option to just turn you down or accept and brace yourself. there are also the kinda ya know
commandments of glomp 1 one shall ask before glomping 2 one shall respect glompees decision 3 thou shalt not steal sexually harass hurt or damage glompees costume 4 don't glomp to hard with those rules and if every one fallowed them (highly unlikely but hey one can wish) then glomping would be ok and for the most part people just need to glomp less hard and respect the other persons decision
finally my final thing i want to say is that at least it seems to me that things of the nature of signs and glomping should be just treated as if it were from another culture to me this seems to be when i take people to there first con they experience culture shock and that is just one of those things you have to expect and respect no mater how hard you try you can never stop making the French greet each other by kissing on the cheek or stop Canadians saying eh its just not going to happen (no offense to those groups of people i am Canadian and also French so no offense just using as an example) these are the same as when you go to an anime con you cant expect people to stop carrying signs and running around glomping people. to me it almost seems like asking cosplayers to stop cosplaying because it makes you seem like an over acheaver and show off it aint gonna happen.
so the whole point of this post is to say no mater how hard you try ( OK bad example you could ban them but then you would just have a bunch of unhappy underground sign baring con goers) people will still want to have signs and glomp and lets face it you can either ignore them or join em and who want to go to a con where there no attention whore to give your attention to?
(these are just my views and my atemps to stop people arguing over this subject do not brutally mame me or hurt me for this >_<)
Anyone want to start a betting pool as to how soon this thread'll get locked?
You already know my stand on this: ban on signs and glomping only with permission (without permission, you get your rear booted out of the con at the very least, if not wind up in jail).
It was sad that the other thread got locked right when we began discussing solutions. D: Still, I think this one is not long for this forum. >____>;;
ah well i tried
*bangs head on desk*
FOR THE LAST TIME PEOPLE-
We all know everyone has a thought on glomping.
We don't care.
Glomping and signs are a LEGAL ISSUE. With legal issues, we can't change anything.
So as much as you can talk about how to solve these problem and compare opinions , but it wont do anything at Con.
Can we just let this subject die. From other threads we have talked about this quite a bit. As fans and staff like me way down on the tow-tam-poll it is not up to us to make, or say rules or how we should have them. I can see people wanting to help with ideas and such but lets not try and fix a problem when we don't know there is one. Fanime has quite a few skilled Heads that have taken Fanime to the level that it is today.. lets leave something like this to them ok. "I'm tired of this topic.... plz let me sleep.."
Tony? lady? can we lock this too? then just have a Signs/Glomps Post from you quickly stating truth on it and then it will be done with..?
I fear other post would pop up otherwise....

I lock!
In all honesty, there's little to these "issues".
Regardless of what a member may think is right or wrong, it's truthfully just a matter of what we will permit and what we will not - and you'll hear about those things from official sources on the website, on the forums from the people responsible for those policies, or in the program guide.
From my personal perspective, everything else is speculation. It's mostly idle speculation, too, for two reasons: the majority of these things are already covered by law, and the rest amount to minor annoyances. It really is just a tempest in a teapot.
