Well it was when I was 9-10 after seeing Gundam Wing endless waltz I wanted to dress up as Duo Maxwell for Halloween. I never heard of anime conventions. My mom helped me make my outfit with hte jacket and red under it. But when I went to school No one knew who I was and I was little ashamed, not alot of anime folk form where I come from anyway I flopped the idea for awhile.
Then when I was 14-15 my mom showed me this website with the man dressed a female anime character it was none other than the famous Man-Faye. I was both shocked and amazed that an man of his age does what he does! then when I was 16 I was told about Fanime of such fun I had.
And I've been hooked ever sence.
FanimeCon is great, FANIMECON IS BANZAI!
Uh...well, my friends told me about it...and since then I've been hooked. XD
I watched 17 episodes of Full Metal Alchemist at the Fanime Midness Madness in 2004. When it was over, I said to myself, "I'm going to cosplay as Edward Elric." I have been cosplaying since JTAF 2 and I'm not going to stop. In addition, cosplaying gives me another activity at anime cons ^__^
I'm glad I heard your reasons, your one of my favorite cosplayers.
Thank you XD For those who have problems figuring out who to cosplay, they should think about their favorite series. There must be a favorite character in their favorite series ~~
I first got into cosplay after attending Sac-Con in March of 2005.
My first ever cosplay was wearing black khakis, a wool coat, a airsoft pistol, and calling myself a Section 9 Operative from Ghost in the Shell.
I have a knack for creating my own original characters with its own extensive background and a unique way of blending into the story. That would be reflected in my next two cosplays - the Director of the Ouran High School Secret Service and the Member of the State SAS (although that costume is 90 years historically inaccurate with the MP5 and the USP, but I could bring it back to its era with a different weapons, probably a bolt-action rifle and a M1911).
Odds are, I will continue to make my own characters because I don't like to be locked into a certain character. I like to be free-form and different than what the show offers.
Fanime of 2005 did. :3 I went for a few hours on Saturday and was AMAZED at all the awesome cosplayers and I felt, I admit, a bit out of place. It's so fun!
FanimeCon will be my first time cosplaying, but I got interested in it after seeing a lot pictures and information of it on the internet.
to be honest for some reason i always like dressing up as somone else for a day or 2. i think it was when my bro and I went to sac con in ooo i say 2003 or 4. back then i was into card games like magic the gathering and comic books. I didnt really paid attention to people in costume till i went the cosplay contest. i was amazed and excited of the costumes that were really awsome. I saw this and i wanted to do it too, and ever since then i been cosplaying. my brother took him longer to finally cosplay and this year is his first time dressing up for an anime con. hes going to dress up as light from deathnote and uhh the main character from fooly cooly. so yea thats my story. if u guys want i ask him how he got into dressing up.
For Halloween, I really wanted to make a Rinoa Heartilly costume. I never heard of cosplay or anime conventions (but I was aware of Star Trek ones, but that's about it.)
So I started researching Rinoa stuff online and ended up stumbling upon a cosplayer who made Rinoa. I saw the word "cosplay" on their site and was curious to what it was. I searched for cosplay and saw really awesome pics.
That made me instantly hooked. =)
Friends that I went to Fanime with so just finally gave in and now Im hooked =]
ok, im a really big ninja fan. i have been since i was a kid. when my friend told me there was an anime all about ninjas, i geeked out. kakashi off the bat was a bada$$. after 2 years of attending fanime i decided i wanted to be a part of this and made my cosplay from surplus scrap and patches. low and behold it didnt look to shabby=) (i will be getting a wig soon. who knows, maybe even contacts)
I cosplayed at my first con...I don't really remember what made me decide to cosplay. Maybe just the fact that I thought it would be fun to do I suppose..
The summer of '06 me and my friend gave each other character nick-names that started with the first letter of our names. (I became Ash and she was Melody) We then decided that the upcoming Halloween we'd dress up as our characters. Then the last day of the Fanime in 2007 my mom looked in the paper and saw an add for the Fanime and my dad drove me and another of my friends to the Fanime. (we were supose to be working on out French project ;D ) Anyways ever since then I've wanted to cosplay. (jeez that was looonnnggg)
A friend of mine went to Fanime Con '05 as a part of her birthday and told the rest of us all about it when she got back. Thus, my friends and I have been going together and cosplaying ever since. (This'll be our third year going together.) I've always loved dressing up in general, especially on Halloween, so when I got the option to go to Fanime I jumped all over it. And wouldn't you know it, after the first few minutes of Fanime Con '06 I was instantly hooked on cosplay. ;D

Yes yes, I it took me a long time to find that the right wig and long braded pony tail! I had the black jacket with the red shirt and everything. I was really the only kid who watched Gundam Wing and Gundam Wing Endless Waltz, I missed the "best snowball fight ever"...I guess, to watch that Movie on Toonami.
after going to Fanime for the first time in 03, i wanted to put together some kind of costume but i had no idea who. after watching the first 100 episodes of Naruto, i finally put together a Hatake Kakashi cosplay for Fanime 05, and have been hooked ever since. cosplaying is one of my favorite parts of con-going ^^
Well, how to say this. . .
My city is VERY asian (I swear, you could go up to anyone and speak Mandarin and they'll understand you. At my school, anyways) and I have a bunch of friends who are hooked. I helped my friend with her cosplay last year (She did L, so she had me do her eye make-up and such). Though this year will be my first year actually cosplaying myself, I've done make-up for lots of friends and stuff xD; I've always been thinking about doing it, anyways.
My friend was cosplaying on my first year of fanime. Thats how i got into cosplay.
2nd grade, Japan week. Tonari No Totaro
My teacher was Japanese as well. I loved her.
My ex girlfriend convinced to Cosplay as Abdul from Gundam Wing at Fanime '02. I then got promptly forced out of the photo ops.
I've been trying to find a look that works, but no one ever stops me for a pic. I'm half-convinced to pack it in this year.
when i want to fanimecon 06 and seeing all the people that are cosplay. I got in to it. :)
Going to Japan a couple of years back and getting to see all those pretty costumes at Harajuku...
Going to my first con [Fanime 2002]. The club officers from my HS anime club cosplayed as the FFX crew. I've been planning on making my own cosplays ever since.
I started cosplaying in the 5th grade. Which was about....5-6 years ago. I think It was because I wanted to actually BE the character, [I cosplayed as trunks from DBZ xD] and then I found out it was called cosplay. soooo...whoo.
Ever since I want to Fanime 2003 my first con, I saw alot of people dressing up as there favorite anime or video game character so that got me into cosplaying.
I was attending an art magnet highschool taking costuming classes around the time I first watched Gundam Wing, and I wasn't fully aware of the whole hobby of cosplay, but making a costume (or 5 ^_^;; ) made sense.
I made a slew of costumes for that first convention (Akon...12 or 13 maybe? This had to be 2000 or 2001. I can't remember anymore) and a bunch of my friends and I went in costume and had the best time. Since that, any convention I've been to without a costume or two has sucked. It became a must do kind of thing, and I've been into it for about 7 or 8 years now. :D
