Alright, so the main thing for me for not going is finances. Can anyone help me add up how much this would be, mostly all of you that have been going for years know a good idea of how much everything is. I'm positive this is the right Forum now.
Let me edit this.
Cosplay- $200
Badges- $150
Transportation- $26- Thanks guys! ^^
Food- $200
Dealer Room- $100- I'm glad I'm pretty content about spending my money. ^^
Hotel- $200
Is there any other expenses I forgot besides the Airline Ticket?
Well, for the hotel, it really just depends on how many people you're going to have, how many days you spend...
And for the dealer's room, it also depends on how much you usually spend.
There are a lot of threads that can really help you on this, like... how much do you spend at fanime? (http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,8842.0.html)
I think there was one on budgeting, but I can't find it. >.>;;
,
For car rental or bus, there's really no need. The hotels are all either connected to or within walking distance of the con, and there's restaurants nearby.
The only travel expense will likely be getting from the airport, and it's about a $15 taxi ride (with tip) or I believe $13 for the SuperShuttle, which goes straight from the airport to the hotel doors. That's assuming you're flying to San Jose. If you're flying to San Fran (like I am) it's $39 for SuperShuttle and about a hundred bucks for a taxi.
I'm sorry about that. I didn't consider it depends.

Oh my gosh! Thanks! This helps a lot.
Something that many people don't do is tip the maids for their hotel. I always try to leave a few dollars tip each day when I go out, but I know many people who DON'T do this.
Food, really depends on what you're eating. If you're here for four days, are you eating McDonald's and Jack-in-the-Box everyday? Are you eating room service food? I'd say make sure you have MORE than enough for food, because you can always use the extra money on Monday right before the Dealer's room closes or what not. And be prepared for high prices in the dealer's room. What I might suggest would be to look at prices in the dealer's room on Friday (and only if you think you HAVE to have the item, and it WON'T be there by tomorrow, buy it) and then compare prices and goods in the Swap Meet later that night. But remember not to go over-board there, as then you won't have any money for the Dealer's room the following days.
All in all, be prepared to potentially spend a LOT of money, but have fun at the Con!
Room service is eeeevil ><
The first day I arrived last year I was tired and cranky cause my luggage was misplaced, so we just ordered a few snacks. Two crabcakes and a chicken quesadilla. Before tip, it came out to $32.
I really would not recommend ordering from room service unless you're in the mood for a "swanky meal in a hotel bed" type treat.

What exactly is the Swap Meeting? I only need about $100, maybe $200 for the Dealers room. I'm good at not buying things I don't really need.
i recommend bringing saving a little money and bringing healthy snacks. i was lucky, the room i got came with "i forget the word" service, which was a room before the top floor that had free breakfast and dinner time snacks w/ free drinks. save us lots o money. anyone remember what that's called?

The swap meet is Friday night, people bring in a TON of stuff they don't need and sell it to other members of the Con, so you can barter, and in theory trade for whatever they have. Much different selection from what you'll find in the dealer's room.
And I'll still warn you that things in the dealer's room are expensive sometimes, and it's best to take a look around before buying anything. I went around and priced one item a few years back and found the price range for it to be from about... $14-$20 depending on which dealer I went to.

Yeah, I like to take a look around and then check prices on the internet as well. Unless there's a really unique item or some sort of deal, most things are cheaper online.
As everyone said it totally depends on you as well.
Also, I would recommend bringing soap and conditioner. Whether you decide to buy it here or not is up to you. But please bathe for the rest of our sakes XD
Oh, car rental you have to remember they put a hold on your account (whatever the deposit is). Than there is gas and parking. So the bus may be cheaper in the end.
QuoteI only need about $100, maybe $200 for the Dealers room.
Nooooooooo! well, if you must, but please spend it all at my booth, okay? ;)
Seriously, when I went to cons (back in the '90's before I had kids and still had money to spend on myself) I planned on spending it all in the dealer's room. Eating? that's for wimps. I'd work my butt off during the year to blow it all on my pass, a ton of comic books, get them all signed by the artists, maybe pick up some model kits, etc.
I try to avoid buying food at shows. It's too overpriced and the lines are long. Bring some jerky, drinks, fruit, nuts, crackers. If all you do is snack all day, you'll be glad to have fruit. Your system will need it. And protein. I usually bring rice crackers and hummus from Trader Joe's and nibble through the day.
If you were not flying in I would completely suggest that you bring your own food. Fast food is alright, but sometimes the food in the hotels is PRICEY! I think a SLICE of pizza was $4.50! And we didn't dare call for room service. I think I spent $25.00 on food for me and two other friends that lasted the entire weekend with extra to spare and bring home with us. We were too busy having fun to eat, unless we were really hungry. We didn't really eat meals, but snacked along the way.
For the Dealer's Room~...it really depends on what you would like to purchase. Going the entire weekend is the best because you can take your time and really scrounge around at the booths and find things pretty cheap. There were mini BLEACH figuries for about $2.00 at one booth and then they were $3.50 at another. Manga are generally all the same prices as they usually are, the same goes for DVD's and such. Unless you get boxsets, those can be high priced or mid-ranged. T-Shirts were around $12-20 I think. Goodness...now that I think about it there are so many odds and ends and random trinkets that it is hard to remember the price of things. We even found Fruits Basket bookends last year! But goodness would those have hurt our wallets. ^.^;; Bringing $100-200 is about right on track. Go to the Swap Meet at all possible though. It'll save you lots!
Transportation~...never used a taxi, we drive ourselves to the con every year, but once you're at the hotel...walk everywhere if at all possible.
Badges~ Pre-Register and arrive on Friday. That is the best time to get there, with the most minimal line you will ever see for the rest of the con.
Hotel~ My friends and I are at the Marriot Hotel this year. I think it was $265.00 with two beds. I'm not entirely sure if that price is exactly correct because we are all splitting it between us, and I am not the one who actually paid for it. I gave my share to my friend and she took care of the rest. ^_^
I hope this helps you. >.<
Feel free to ask any questions if you need to! =^__^=
I wish I could bring my own food >< But I don't have room in my suitcase, and even if I did there are all sorts of weird laws about bringing food from Canada to the US :P

I'm sorry. V.V
But all that space is needed for cosplay, right? XD I know the feeling....^.^;;
Oh! Maybe you could find a food market near the hotel? That might help.
Hehe, I'm not even cosplaying. I'm just a bit of a packrat when I travel, and I'm bringing a large gift for a friend ><''
