Hello all! i'm new to this convention and even newer to the san jose area. Any local veterans to FANIME around? Can you guys list some of the local eateries w/in walking distance to the convention center? Places like fast food joints, family restaurants like denny's norms, ihops, etc or anything that sounds good but within a good price range for con goers say no more than a $20 dollar meal per person. Thanks!
Wow... Less than $20 can get you an entire days worth of food at one place I know. It's a little local place that specializes in Mexican Food, called La Victorias (La Vics for teh locals). They have awesome breakfast burritos, that really are the thing you need after waking up at a con. It's located down San Carlos by San Jose State.
There's also the best Omlettes in walking distance at Peggy Sues, it's across the San Carlos, through the little alley by the Civic Center, and across the next street.
Then there's the copious amounts of fast food nearby. Jack in the Box, McDonalds, Pizza My Heart, among other things.
Also, if you want to splurge (as in, this is more than $20, but sooooooo freekin' worth it) and have the best tasting, greaseball pizza you may ever have in your entire life. House of Pizza is right down the street on Almaden.
There was a thread that started out about "fancier" eateries but turned into a general list of restaurants last year, you can check that out here.

There's also this resource, it lists all the restaurants in the area and how far they are from the convention center :)

Eat at my mom's restaurant!! 8D Her restaurant is a Vietnamese cuisuine, and it's absolutely delicious! ^^ It's on Market St. I'll have to warn you that her place is more "fine dining", so most of the food is a little pricey. D:
Take a look at the website if you're interested ^^;

I luv going to The Grill inside the convention center on the Hilton Side....and having their buffet breakfast. There isnt a huge selection of food, but its nice to have a breakfast like that at least one day out of the con.
the mexican place down the street has the best salsa ever. me and my buddie gank whole bottles somtimes. always in moderation.=)
I found a Subway not too far from the convention center.
This far into the thread and narry a mention of Johnny Rockets and Iguana Burrito? For shame!
TO be honest, every time I went to fanime I would load up on food from Mitsuwa and eat all sorts of instant food. It was mostly because I was afraid to venture outwards and didn't know of any places to eat at.
... Though I did go to a subway, this boba place, and MacDo... McDonlads. Thats about it. For shame on me

I haven't been in the area for a few weeks so it might be a little off but yeah
thats cool of you to add ur own version of ur food maps.
i think u forgot the jack intha box
which is next to the mexican restaurant.
A+ for effort-ing and stuffs! :)
Peggy Sues! (on the opposite side of the Live Arts theatre).
Yeah i knew there was a jack in the box over there but i couldnt think of where... Lol that's just kinda a broad map... ^^'; not completely accurate!
And yeah i figure it would be easy for some people if there was like a kinda broad drawing of the eateries... other than just "Across the street from blah blah"
Nice map. Fantastic idea. Thanks a bundle!
Lol thank you!

I second Loktera on this, Lilgurlseishi. Don't forget to douse your burrito with their famous spicy orange sauce.

What is this so called orange sauce? :o Sounds like I'll have to try it out.
thank you everyone for the replies! i'll try my best to tryout all the food places although i'm not sure if i have the time to hit up all of them. by the way to taiko moon where is this mitsuwa you talk of? i wanna hit up there first before we get to the convention.
@ nabe: i'm surprise you're on here
I love to go to Mitsuwa to stock up on good bento foods, snacks, and drinks! It's in the same shopping center as Kinokuniya on Saratoga Rd. Here's the website you might want to check out: http://www.mitsuwa.com/tenpo/sanj/eindex.html. It's not walking distance though so you need transportation to get there.
If you don't get la vics with orange sauce, you are sadly missing. In fact, in half an hour after my class as SJSU, I'm going to go get a burrito. Mhm...
