Title: Picture taking and you
Post by: pinkparasolmage on March 10, 2008, 01:46:51 PM
I've never been to Fanime before and thus have no idea how the layout of the place is, however after several years of Texas and a Florida con I always want to have some sort of idea on this. I plan to be in cosplay and have my own camera as well with me. So any tips or ideal places to be to take pictures, hang out in costume at where congestion won't be my fault?

I ask this because I get annoyed when a group of people decide they must take someone's picture right in front of doors or smack in the middle of high traffic areas and thus create a domino affect where the cosplayer not to seem rude has to pose for a good few minutes because more people bust out cameras at the opportunity. Thus I want to avoid such as a Fanime newb and try and have an idea of areas best to scope out people to take pictures of and a general idea on where to move myself in the rare chance someone wants my picture. Don't expect this as Miranda isn't all that popular from D. Gray-man, but best to be on the safe side.

Thanks for any opinions on this.

The best place for pictures is at gatherings.  There's always a list of when and where the gatherings will be.  Rest assured that if you stay at the fountains in front you will see A LOT of cosplayers and it's a safe place to take photos.  Do check the list though, cause a lot of gatherings are in different locations and you don't want to miss a group you'd really enjoy.

The neat thing about the layout of the convention center is that the halls are really wide so if someone stops to take a picture people can usually continue to get around them and you without any major difficulty.

Avoid the top of the stairs / escalator and doorways and you should be fine.   ;D

Thanks, that eases the paranoia a bit as a few places before like Animefest and Akon happen in hotels, and thus the hallways are not the best place to stop and take pictures. And the fact I still have a bit of a ruffled feather complex when one convention an entire aisle of the dealers room came to a standstill because someone had to get a picture of a small group that was in there.

I'd say the next best place to take photos is the main floor.  Everybody has to walk back and forth to get to anything, and they are usually nice enough to stop for photos if you ask.  But I agree gatherings and out front by the fountain are great places too.

There's a courtyard between the convention center and the Marriot that is perfect for pictures, especially in the afternoon when lighting can be an issue

I've never come across that issue...but it is tighter in the Dealers room and Artist Alley I'd probably avoid pictures in those areas.

Thank goodness Fanime is full of wide open spaces with fantastic opportunities for pictures.   ;D
