Title: Spring '08
Post by: Lisu on April 10, 2008, 02:41:30 PM
As a member of an anime forum were anime is the least popular topic, I say lets get down to business:
(https://forums.fanime.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi4.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy138%2FLisu_de_Crauder%2Frandom%2520stuff%2Fspring-anumi.jpg&hash=8a981c72414d08ba5bb049074a49814b4f731da1)

cross referencing a bit, you might note the three un-uniform additions at the bottom, and I'm to lazy to put some things like the more blue dragon and stuff.

Personally this season holds series from other sorts of media that I've wanted to check out, but now have the luxury of being lazy and watching it.

Lastly, instead of doing something so foolish as posting an enormous list of "will watch" in which I will actually check out but half the shows listed, here's my take so far:

watched:
-code geass R2: a given to keep on, might be good, might be gay (oh wait, it is already) but not something I can ignore.
-Kurenai: Looks awesome so far with a cast of fun characters, I'm in on it.
-Vampire Knight: well....might as well
-Kanokon: maybe garbage, I would say such so far, but will check out a bit more before dropping it.

Downloaded hitlist:
Soul Eater
ToLoveRU
Itazura na Kiss
Karen Children
Tower of Druaga
BLASSREITER

I was thinking this thread was long overdue.

So far, I've watched ep 1 of Code Geass R2, and I downloaded Kurenai (mostly because BSS has had good taste so far)... still kind of catching on older stuff, though.

The only other thing that looks kind of familiar is (strangely enough) Soul Eater, because my friend years ago picked up a volume of the manga in raw form. It has something to do with chicks who turn into weapons. Kind of silly and fanservicey, was the impression I got.

There's a number of shows this season that I'm not too sure about and will probably wait till I hear stuff from friends before watching.

But so far I plan to watch (or am watching):
Alison to Lilia
Code Geass R2
Wagaya no Oinari Sama
Macross Frontier
Vampire Knight
Library Wars
Bus Gamer
Blade of the Immortal

Might check out:
S.A.
Soul Eater
Nijiyuume no musume
Neo Angelique
Monochrome Factor
ToLove RU
Nabari no ou
Amatsuki

Possibly more if I hear more about/good things about the other series.
Kinda lazy to d/l a lot right now. >.>;

For sure going to check out:

Library War
R2 (already 1 episode down and Kallen wins in bunny suit)
Tower of Druaga (I hope Gonzo won't fail me)
Chi's Sweet Home (win so far)
Nijiiyuume no Musume
Real Drive

But mostly I wait until the series is finished before I get into it. However, R2 I will follow for sure with release.

I'm getting all of it but I'm not watching any of it.

...Well except for xxxHOLiC. Need to see that missing eye arc and the Himawari arc.

...Anyways anime is sooo last season, the only reason I get it anymore is so I have something to give the poor kids at Christmas...

Speaking of old seasons and missing eyes, I'm still watching and enjoying Mushishi.
Title: Re: Spring '08
Post by: questionette on April 14, 2008, 07:42:13 PM
Watched the first eps of:
Kurenai (Don't think i'm into it)
Itazura na kiss (Meh...I'll keep watching, only because I'm a sucker for stereotypical romance dramas)
Special A (I liked it, and I'll keep watching)
Vampire knight (I liked it  :D but then again, I'm a sucker for romance...and vampires are awesome)
Wagaya no Oinari-sama (Aside from the super cool monanoke-esque fox god, I'm not that into it)
The Tower of DRUAGA (I liked it A lot, it made me laugh XD)

Based on the pretty pictures you've provided lisu, I think I'll attempt:
Soul Eater
Kyou kara ma ou R
nabari no ou
junjo romantica
and possibly monochrome factor

Woot. Happy anime-ing!

Title: Re: Spring '08
Post by: Lisu on April 17, 2008, 09:23:43 AM
I plowed trough a couple more of the shows, but I found only 3 noteworthy mentions:

Soul Eater- If I were to rate by first episodes only, this show would have my vote for the best release of the season.  It super edgy, with great animation quality, and all dipped in a Halloween-ish flavor that naturally has me all over it.
The only down parts would be if it follows a trend of hitting a brick wall in quality, drags it unreasonably long and turns into a horrible jump-esque anime.  And also, if it is in fact good...the comic should be amazing!

An oddity pair of the season comes with Kamen no Maid Guy and Kyoran Kazoku Nikki.

Even if I heard maid guy to be the under appreciated or cool oddity series of the season...it sucks...hard.  It has the animation budget of a hobo, and the whole series is more than dependent on the Maid Guy, with everyone else not needing mention.

Kazoku Nikki being the opposite, with a great cast, looking good, and enjoyable, but that main girl is so damn annoying it simply killed the episode.

Now if you switched Kyoka with Kogarashi, you'd have one godly show, and one you could just brush aside.

Totally agree, Soul Eater's almost Tim Burton-inspired atmosphere is keeping me addicted XP I can't help but think of naruto when I look at the main guy in it though ^^;

Monochrome Factor, Crystal Blaze (aka Glass Maiden), and Ayakashi both seem to have good potential.
Allison to Lillia is good.
Special A is more amusing than I thought at first.
Neo Angelique ~Abyss~ might be good.
There's too many potentially good or great series this season.
I wanna watch them all. T.T

I want my episode 2 of Vampire Knight. ~cries~

Title: Re: Spring '08

So far, on my good list is:
Soul Eater (I love the feel of it so far)
Tower of Druaga (Made me LOL so hard! great parody of a DnD-type scenario)
Vampire Knight (I should probably put this on the O.K. list, but I like shoujo stuff, and I like vampires...I just hope this series doesn't fail)
Special A(I like this one because its about a girl rising to the challenges of gender roles, which makes it an interesting standpoint - her and this boy compete in everything and he always beats her...and then you find out he wubs her <3  at first I didn't think this series would be good, but it's definitely entertaining)

My O.K. list:
Itazura Na Kiss (...basically this girl is in love with the super smart guy...lalalala not a big fan of the artwork of the guy but OH WELL still a cute story)
Monochrome factor (its like 'Loveless' meets the Heartless from kingdom hearts)
Kurenai (a little slow for me so far -_-)

My bad list:
Wagaya no Oinari Sama (a fox god that watches over a boy's safety because of some demon that's after him...eh, i feel like its similar to other works)
Kanokon (can we say...EPIC FAIL? Don't watch it.  Don't even attempt.)
Maid Guy

Lots of cheesy anime this season, but a few are pretty entertaining. The season as a whole feels kind of boring, though. Too lazy to type out summaries, but I'll give a bit of what I like and don't like.

Kyouran Kazoku Nikki - Been looking forward to it since seeing the trailer. It's fun and wacky, worth watching. Pretty bizarre, but not too bizarre. Characters are fun, plot doesn't really matter. It feels like a supplement. How do I explain that?

Kamen no Maid Guy - Sucks ass. It was made for lulz, and it even fails at that. lol. "Budget of a hobo".

Wagaya no Oinarisama
- I like it, actually. It's pretty entertaining and an interesting watch. Seems typical at first, but then deviates a tiny bit as it progresses while still having that nostalgic feel. You grow to like the characters and suddenly its fun to watch. Nice to sit back and relax to.

Soul Eater
- Very nice. Setting and overall theme is very spooky and whimsical. I never read the manga, but I'll probably follow the anime.

To Love Ru - Ugh. Why do series like this still exist in this decade. Super cheesy, stereotypical loser and hawt alien plotless piece of junk. I can't stand the main character. He should kill himself. :V

Chi's Sweet Home
- Feels like a super clean version of Ebichu. Only a cat. Who doesn't talk to humans. In a family. A nice one. So uh, nothing like Ebichu. It's cute.

Itazura na Kiss - Boring.

Tower of Druaga
- Tries too hard.

Bus Gamer - It's either super manly or just super gay. Action-packed fujyoshi paradise, here. It's full of bad-boy stereotypes and bijin. Mildly entertaining nonetheless. I might keep watching.

Boy.  I've got a lot of stuff I'll have to watch.

Soul Eater:   Wow!  One of the best looking shows I've seen in a while.  Kinda weird, but I like it.  Was sold on it in ten minutes.

To Love Ru:   wtf?   Haven't I seen this show about a dozen times before?

Chi's Sweet Home:  It's not a cleaned up Ebichu, it's the antithesis of Ebichu.  ;D

So with what little time I have to watch new stuff, what else should I be watching guys?

Totally behind on everything.  I've seen Geass R2 and am up to date.

Just posting to say though, that D.C.IIS.S. is already way better than D.C. II.  How?  Cause now it focuses on the girls that matter, kkthx.  Also, it feels more like a real D.C. series, all with the sakura tree nonsense.

I can say that Wagaya and Soul Eater are my top two favorites! with Wagaya i love the whole shinto elements to it. and with soul eater it is very halloween/tim burton esque. Episode 2 made me fall inlove with Angela <3

Hmm, let's see (so far):

Kamen no Maid Guy: An interesting concept (Maid Guy?) but...DO NOT WANT!

Penguin Musume: "Lucky Star"....on steroids?  Nuff said.

Soul Eater: At first, I thought this was gonna be yet another typical repetitive shinigami anime.  Turns out that this one is actually quite good, especially the animation style.

Now, to watch some Code Geass S2 and Vampire Knight.

It's funny that these threads are started, but we never top them off.
With summer (http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,10241.0.html) coming in, what is the last word on the spring? Did you watch your whole list? Half? Anything that wasn't Geass and Soul Eater? (By watch, meaning up to the current release =ing   almost done with the season's worth)
As for my part of the cake:

Kaiba:
Do I even call this anime? I honestly cannot say, but I can say it is good.  It weird, and I don't really know where it is leading up to, but each episode has been worth the ride. Don't care for OP or ED

Kyouran Kazoku Nikki:
Too good.  This show makes no sense, but its never a chore to get through any episode.  Super cast still, still hate the main girl. Good OP, Good 1st ED

Kurenai:
Second Favorite of the season. Nothing happens, in the good way. Nothing more than enjoyable day to day with a fun cast, leading up to some seriousness in the end. OP ED are ok.

Soul Eater:
Still my favorite of the season, but to its name, the manga is boss.  Plowed through it for the sole reason of it being that good.  The anime is still a good watch, as it keeps things (though the usual watered down-ness) entertaining.   Love the ED lots.

Geass:
Watched it. Nothing to say to it. OP ED suck.

Regret not watching:
Monochrome Factor
Daughter of Twenty Faces
Penguin Musume Heart
ToLoveRu
Zettai Karen Children

I'm watching Daughter of Twenty Faces(good plot, solid voice acting and yeah, aya hirano lol), Code Geass R2, Macross Frontier and Kyouran Kazoku Nikki. That's about it. Most of the other shows this spring season don't interest me as much as these main 4. and Nikki is hilarious since it is CRACK and Macross F's Music is godly XD.

I watched at least one episode of everything on my list. XP

Nijuu-mensou is awesome. I <3 it. Its a top for me. Soul Eater is right up there as well; I thought I'd hate it originally.

Special A is hilarious. Allison to Lillia is pretty fun. Macross Frontier is good.

Lisu: you can get nijuu-mensou off me if you do want to watch; I have Live Evil's releases.

Through Spring isn't quite done yet... -.-;
