whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat no perc?! for shame! for shaaaaaaaaaame!

I actually signed up my winter percussion ensemble (just the PIT) for Masquerade as a special performance group.  We're going to play music from a winter percussion show we did 3 years ago...Yakitate! Ja-pan.  I didn't have enough time to put a battery together for this, so the PIT ensemble will have to do.  They're going to dress up as chefs.  Hopefully we'll get a slot at Masquerade and be able to perform!

If you'd like to see the full winter percussion show of Yakitate! Ja-pan, you can find it in YouTube under Yakitate! Arroyo High School Winter Percussion....(even though we didn't place at Championships, it was fun being in Open class for the first time...and watching my students marching their butts off  at 212 bpm.... :P).

Um, will saxophone be okay? Just wondering, or do you really have to stick with the clarinet?

it would so be cool if one could form a jazz band and play songs from Cowboy Bebop :D

Luv the music from that series ^_^  And I play the clarient, but its been soooo long since i even took the thing out o_o;   Gotta check to see if i even have any good reeds, id break mine once in a while to where i felt like the worlds biggest clutz.

This year, we were in NCBA (got dropped down from Open to Scholastic [was hoping to get dropped down lower] because I had a very green group this year).  Last year we did both NCBA and CCGC....we were the group with the tight black spandex uniforms with bright neon splash of color.

Hey guys! WOW so many responses today!!!
(I have been working on my final project for architecture...it's Hell Week...woot! x_X)

@ deonchan: Well, we do have a few pieces with percussion I believe...including the KH Overture. I haven't THOROUGHLY looked at every score for every piece...>_<
But, you are totally welcome to be THE percussionist...since you replied first!! Do you want me to send you the pieces?

@ Steve.Young, liger0sniper, and SweetNiar:
I *was* looking for an all clarinet group due to the overall sound and tone of the horn. However, if any of you have tenor saxes (we only have music for Bb instruments), I can get back to you. I actually have some other friends who play flute and stuff, so maybe we can get a small woodwind ensemble (with percussion) together to play! however....that would mean I would need to re-orchestrate/transcribe some of the music...
wow...i'm even more excited now.
What do you guys say? Would you help me re-organize the parts to some of the pieces if I let other woodwinds into the group??

something tells me oathkeeper is a music major (or minor) EXTRA POINTS

go ahead and shoot me the files. hmm with the way the con is set up prehaps a chamber ensemble would work better. What do you think?

deonchan... I am starting my music minor in the Fall hopefully...I look forward to it! ^_^

A chamber ensemble MAY work better...but then I may need MAJOR help reorchestrating stuff....

but....hey..loook....
I just found music for band....we'll see whats up!
I'll post back within the next 36 hours hopefully with a new set list and new instrumentation (if that's how we want to do it)

Hmm, Bb tenor sax eh? Well, I could only play the Eb Alto sax so would it still work?

What's the difference between Clarinet 1,2, and 3, and A, B, and C?  I've never heard of a lettered chair, only numbers.

I'm a little interested, and I'll seriously give it some thought.  Could you post the sheet music for each available part so I could decide which would best fit my skills?

Also, if I were to do this, where would we meet and when?

I'm not super good, but I am college level.  I've been playing clarinet in school classes and marching band for eight years.  I switched over to the alto sax when I transferred to my current college because the marching band here only uses brass, but my first love and preferred instrument is still the good ol' Bb clarinet.

Clarinet 1,2, and 3 might be the level of difficulty and how high the notes will go on the sheet music.  Only guessing since thats how i remember it being in high school, though that was about eight years ago XD

Found my clarinet and i remembered why i never pulled it out to play it.....I need to get myself a new ligature (spelling might be off on that but hopefully ya know what i mean ^_^) The top screw broke off when adjusting it after putting a new reed on.  It is not fun playing with a loose reed....Ive tried cause i couldnt at the time afford a new one.

Sorry for not being clear.  You answered the part I already knew.  What I don't know are the letters.  Do they represent difficulty like the numbers do?  And if they do, then what's the difference between the numbers and th letters?

CHECK OUT MY LATEST EDIT GUYS! I will add who I think wants to play, let me know if you don't!!!

(And let me know if you only want to play certain pieces)

I can send music to whoever I hear back from!

ANNDDDD>>>>>

@ deonchan: THe music will be coming at you shortly!

@ steve.young: Flute is GREAT! We need one! Do you have a piccolo?

@ liger0sniper: Alto Sax is GREAT! AWESOME!

@ sweetniar: I have an extra ligature if you want to borrow it for the con! ^_^

@ sygmus: the Clarinet 1-3 parts are normal parts you would think of in music, arranged by level of difficulty usually. The A, B, and C parts are just a continuation. A music is about at Clarinet 2 level, B at Clarinet 3 level, and C at a bass clarinet level. Something close to that. The 1, 2, and 3 parts in clarinet choir music often represents what would be the right hand on a piano, and the A, B, and C parts are what would the left hand (so lower register and easier). That help?? I can put up some links on here to the music so y'all can check it out....

http://nobuouematsu.com/sheet.html
All of the music i found is somewhere on that page. Most of the clarinet stuff under "clarinet" in the woodwind section, the full band music I found under "band", and the other stuff was found in different spots. If you are interested in the other ensembles I will send you parts. ^_^

Ah, really cool update! You know, if you want, I could fill up the slot for alto sax in "FFIX World Theme." ^^

For some reason, I can't download the alto sax parts for "FF Best of FF" and "FFVII One Winged Angel." Could someone email or pm it to me?
-EDIT- Nevermind, fixed it ^^

Oh, and is there a set date/time/location for this?

We will be taking out the "Best of FFVII" piece. It is far too long and complicated. Sorry guys!

Um...liger0sniper. I need your email address so I can send you the parts for the small ensembles. I assume you have the parts for the other pieces now?

And yes, we were looking at different times and places.
Possibly just in the hallway at the same time every day for like half an hour to an hour. No set time, per se.
AND/OR, we could play at some of the gatherings where the music would fit....aka FF gatherings...lol.
I know that the KH gathering is 4 pm on Saturday, the FFX/X-2 gathering is Saturday at 2 pm, the FFVIII gathering is on Sunday (i don't remember the time), the FFVII gathering is Sunday at 4 pm, and the FF(ALL) gathering is Saturday at 11 am (ew thats early).

So just put in your two cents. I will be attending a few of those gatherings anyway.

What do you all say to every day, twice a day, for half an hour each. Times at about 1 pm and then some other time? We can do late nights, that's not out of the question. Let me know. Things may have to change according to people's availability and such. ^_^

Hey Oathkeeper! Its Amy! (I live in teh Placerville area)

I know this sounds funny, but would you have a opening tentatively (since I gotta make sure it still works) for Trumpet   (0_0  I know, they might overpower everything but what the heck, hehe) I would need to pull up my iTunes to relisten to the songs you're wanting to do to see if it's even worthwhile...

Anyways if you don't want any of the very loud - ness of trumpet, its okay... besides I would have to freshen up my skills.

BTW  if possible I would LOVE to do Man with a Machine gun (FFVIII) with a ensemble.  =D

Send me a PM with your email address and your instrument and I will send you your parts!

@ crazychichi...AMY! ^_^ YOU ARE DEFINITELY WELCOME! We need some trumpets! ^_^ I will send you parts if you pm me your instrument and your email address (i'm getting so many requests I have a hard time keeping usernames straight...XP)

Hi!
I know that double-posting is irreverent n all that...but I needed people to see what kind of stuff I'm doing here...

I need to know who is IN...for good.
we may only have one or two shots at this over the course of the weekend, at one or two gatherings and maybe in a hallway once.
We need to have one rehearsal if possible...so I need availability so I can set that up with people.

The con push is coming up...we have 8 days!

IF YOU ARE IN THIS, PLEASE POST HERE AND LET ME KNOW!!!

we may only be playing about five different pieces...

throw me some email addresses if you like, and I can send out parts.

We will be playing at some gatherings and in a hallway once probably.

I'm looking at the KH, FFVII, FFVIII and FFX/X-2 gathering

We still need to choose which gatherings to go to!

I have a very large, bulky keyboard that I'm not sure even works, so if anyone can bring one or if a piano can be provided it would be much easier for me. I'll see if I can get mine working just in case. I already play a bunch of Final Fantasy and anime pieces solo, so this should be a walk in the park. :D

I could bring my CASIO 61-note keyboard.  I would really be interested in doing this.  Saturday would be best for me since I have a hotel room that day and I could lug my case around.  Um, I don't have a stand.  Maybe I can just drag one of those white tables around and plop it on there.  Here's my email address:

Send me parts whenever you can.  Also, work out your number of players.  Read any orchestration book and you will know how important the balance of instruments are.  But I'll leave that up to you.  :)

EDIT: If you're drawing from the free nobuo site directly, just let me know the pieces and I'll DL them myself.  Thanks.

shinjiboy...I thank you for your advice with the orchestration...
i'm using the clarinet choir pieces and small ensemble pieces. There's nothing I can do about lower end stuff...I didn't get enough interest. >_<

neovalkyrion...I would love to have you!

As far as the pianist...which one of you wants to play more? XP

I will send you both parts...and if you both are interested...well...idk if we can have two keyboards. I'll work it out between the two of you, okay?

thanks for sending me the music.  I sent a PM to neovalkryion saying that he gets priority since he responded first with interest.

I'll practice the music just in case.  But out of interest, I'd like you to clarify your small ensemble pieces.  Perhaps I can help with the balance.  I also understand that you put together a clarinet choir so you'll be performing some pieces with clarinet alone.  If I'm not playing, I'll be sure to come by and say hi.

You just gave me another reason to be excited for Fanime.  Hope it all works out.

Shinjiboy,

Our "clarinet choir" pieces are those that we are taking and transposing into the whole ensemble pieces.
If you are interested in playing parts for us, I can give you some parts (that would need to be transcribed to the key of C) so you can play the bass clarinet parts/lower clarinet parts on your keyboard.

Idk...that would be cool, if you have the time!

I am very excited! ^_^

Just checked out both pieces, both are pretty simple and I'd be happy to play. Still working on getting the keyboard functional though. And you know, seeing as there are two parts, maybe we could split the difference and take one each? I'll be bringing my solo piano sheet music to the con anyway in case I see a grand piano (managed to do this last year and the year before at JTAF). As far as preference for which piece (if you're alright with doing one of the two pieces) I'd like to do the FFVII World Theme, as I'll be cosplaying Zack Fair and barely know anything about FFIX.

I'm also gonna be busy Saturday at 2 PM (due to the SSBX tourney) and won't be at the con Monday.

I would say: sounds great!

I think you two splitting the amount of pieces would be great, so you both could play. I trust you will figure it out on your own who is bringing a keyboard and whatnot?

at the hallway gatherings we'll be playing everything we have, but at the game gatherings we'll be playing music that is appropriate...k?

I'M SO EXCITED GUYS!!! ^_^ b

Well, I've run into a bit of a speed bump. Unfortunately on Sunday an opportunity arose that I can't pass up, so I'm going to be leaving the con for most of the day and returning around 7 PM (I'm very sad that I'll miss the FFVII gathering D:). I can, however, make room on Saturday to show up at any gatherings we plan to play at. Can you give me an idea of what times you need me to be there?

hmm...well...that means we wouldn't have a pianist for the FFVII gathering...if no keyboardists can come...idk. Shinjiboy also told me that he would not be able to attend that gathering...but its the only gathering with the FFVII music featured...and the keyboard is central to that piece...i'm pretty sure (I haven't exactly had time to study the scores) :'(

@ shinjiboy: Is the Air Gear gathering exactly at 3? If we played about 5 minutes before 4 could you possibly make it over just to play one song with us? Seeing as NeoValkyrion can't make it to any of Sunday's gatherings, you could take that day for us. /gets on knees and begs

Well all...I've made an executive decision, seeing as no one else is willing to tell me when a good time for the Friday and Monday gatherings would be.

I will have a sign with me that says "Fragments of Fantasy" I'll be in costume...be there!

Friday night: 6 pm in the main entrance area, near the fountains. Whole set, including the FFIX Theme. Kind of a mini-rehearsal. sound good?
Saturday: 1:45 pm and 3:45 pm is when we meet, outside near the fountains. These will only be short sets. The FFX/X-2 gathering is first, we will be playing "Tidus and Yuna's Sky Theme", "1000 words" and the "Song of Prayer/Hymn of the Fayth", and then the KH gathering. We will just be playing the KH overture then.
Sunday: 11:45 and 3:45 is when we meet, outside near the fountains. FFVIII gathering is first, we will be playing "Eyes on Me," and "Fragments of Memory". The FFVII gathering is at 4, we will only be playing the "World Theme" and "Flowers Blooming in the Church."
Monday morning: 11 am in the main entrance area, near the fountains. Whole set. Would be a closer for the entire con. ^_^

Well, please let me know if you can't attend any of these. I won't really have time to try and compensate for your absence, but at least I will know if you won't be there.

P.S. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN DESIGNING/MAKING YOUR OWN SIGN, PLEASE DO! ADVERTISE! XD

Okay, can definitely make the Friday one. Do you only need a pianist for the FFVII and FFIX gatherings in particular? I could also play To Zanarkand at the FFX gathering if you'd like (Although a keyboard doesn't really do it justice like a grand piano does). And yeah, I'm really annoyed that this thing came along and hit me out of the blue, but it's not something I should miss. I can also ask another attending pianist I know if he'd be interested in playing on Sunday. As for Monday I'm not sure if I'll go to the con that day, I'll try to let you know ASAP.

Also, I don't know whose coordinating for the FFVII gathering, but we could always talk to them about changing time spots to something later or a different day.

Omg...Yeah! To Zanarkand is one of my favorite pieces, I would love if you played it. I (stupid me) didn't come across the arrangement for Clarinet choir again while looking through music...though I played it with a clarinet choir a year ago. >_<

That would have been a good piece...but you are totally welcome to come and play it! Sure!

Yeah, we need the pianist for the Friday and Monday gatherings for us, and then the FFVII gathering. So, if you wanted to play at the X gathering that would be cool too!

If your friend could step in for you and play at the FFVII gathering that would be awesome...could he perchance also play on Monday? Or are you taking your keyboard with you, huh? XP

Just let me know if your friend can play for us. ^_^

Just got confirmation from another one of my friends that I could borrow their lighter, much better keyboard (mine is a stupid piece of heavy junk) for the con, but I probably won't be able to leave it there for Monday (I check out of my room Sunday morning). I'll ask my pianist friend tomorrow if he'd be up to it on Sunday, and I'll keep you posted.
