well you've come to the right place :)

the forums are a great place to make friends.

if you're cosplaying, find out where the gathering is for that anime/manga and go to it, you'll make lots of friends without having to be too outgoing.

the con is the easiest place to make friends.  you can just wave at someone and there's a 90% chance they'll want to hug you.  actually there's a 90% chance you can just make eye contact with someone and they'll want to hug you.

there is a 100% chance that you'll get as many hugs as you want, just walk past the hug line.  you won't miss it.

if you see someone you want to hang out with, ask them if you can take their picture and then ask for a hug and then say you like their outfit/costume, and then just start talking to them.

but if you post a lot on the forums, you will have oodles of people to meet by the time con comes around.  there will even be a forum gathering, so you can meet the people from these forums.

Ooh. Well I'm sure there are a bunch of people who'd be willing to meet up and hang with you. ^^ I'm heading with my friend, possibly you could be with us? (That is if you don't mind cosplaying girls (And possibly another guy or two) who will spazz at unexpected moments.. :x)

Heh, well thanks for the info.
Like I said, I cant just say hi (yes, even waving is embarrassing for me)
I heard about "groups"?
O.o
And no I do not mind
I don't care who I am with, because obviously, we are all there for the same common interest so we should all get along
It would be better if someone just came up to me and introduced me to everyone, that I do not mind at all, I just dont want to be by  myself when I am being introduced to a crowd.

Well like I do for all of you seeking to meet friends at the Con, you are more then Welcome to hang out with me if you wish, assuming you are not to much of a creeper. Don't worry I have high tolerance for that kind of thing most of the time.

i don't know if this cheers you up at all, but you'll make friends no matter what.  I went for the first time last year and just kind of shyly went to the swap meet, dealers hall, a ballroom class, etc and made a ton of friends without even trying to.  then throughout the con, people that you meet (no matter how briefly you met them) will come up to you and hug you and talk to you like you've known each other for years.

I've found most of the time that the late night and really early morning crowd is really chill, meeting people in gaming works out pretty well too I think since most people are having fun  ;D

The reason I keep coming back to fanime is to meet people, this con by far has the most friendly environment out of all the cons I've been to, you could be sitting against the glass railing just doing nothing but watching the cosplayers walk by and someone will walk up to you and start talking to you.  Also, as previously stated the gaming/arcade room is an easy place to meet a lot of people.  and yeah late night is awesome; thats usually where i have the most fun :P  And if this is your first con (cant remember if you posted it or not) you'll find its a lot easier to talk at a con, I havent really figured out why; probably something about being with like minded people.

Hey Welcome Zexion! You're definitely in the right place - the majority of regular post-ters around here are all like minded individuals and we wouldnt be here if we werent wanting to make friends and be social and stuff.

Everyone's given out great advise thus far- and it is literally as simple as saying hello to people - being yourself and honest about making new friends. --- as even Executive staff as has - a huge portion of the circle of friends come and participate in one way or another tied with Fanime... its like one big extended family with all the sub divisions of gamers, anime /manga fans, the meme-sters, cosplayers, jokers, and socialites all the same.

but I agree with Michi you may actually want to put a "face" behind the name instead of a camera- though you got a good look going there- even thou i have no idea the difference visual K, emo, goth, indie, post modern or 80's rocks---

seems like you already have fellow fan girl/boys that are willing to strike up a conversation. might as well roll with it.
just go with Pms or continue the conversation here.

mingle with cosplayers- or join up a meeting/gathering which are posted all over these forums.
otherwise enjoy the forums and hope to see ya at the Con.  8)

Well thanks everyone.
I will be sure to check those things out
I will most likely be wearing a plaid blue and black shirt
So, if you see me, say hi.
:)
Also, should I bring a backpack or something to bring all my things in?
Where is the best place to go first when I get there?

If you plan on carrying a good amount of things (more than what'll fit in pockets) then a backpack is a good idea.
As for where to go first, its entirely up to you. If you're into gaming at all, then the Gaming Hall would be a great first place to visit. You'd have a hard time not meeting people there, especially if you take part in console gaming. Other than that, just roaming the hallways is an easy way to mingle, as long as you're approachable enough.
Good luck and have fun!

Do you happen to have any type of instant messaging like AIM??

looks like Zexion is looking for a room- he posted in the roommate thread.

even if you cant make an appearance until actual Con time - just open up random topics - or start a discussion so ppl can better get acquainted with you.

otherwise the new kid with the mysterious past- and no one has seen your face- is an interesting gimmick too  8)

Well his face isn't showing, so maybe he feels secure even though his shirts off.  Hell if i had to take a picture with my shirt off i'd cover my face too.

great, thanks alot for the mental image now Michi - you have single handedly corrupted this pure and easy go lucky soul. ;)

besides, for me anyway I think I connect better by seeing a person's face rather than a [altough good looking] shirtless body.
if i wanted to look a shirtless body with no face I might as well look at a mannequin torso:

all joking aside - personality is a big thing for most of the Con goers/posters here - sure good looks and a mysterious persona is great... but the gimmick can only last so long... remember this is in the internet.

popular things changes more than a baby with an over active bladder.  :-X

OK a little more back on track. I was where you are now last year, so I started a gathering to get all the lone con-goers together. Anyway it half work but i think it will work much better this year  as I know what I'm doing now and I now know that most people are not there on Thursday. But the ones that got to meet up with me we had a really good time for the most part. oh side note just because were at fanime dose not mean we play D&D and just because we are to nice to tell you to @#$%up dose not mean that we would like to hear about how to kill a dragon with a 1000 peons and a ladder for 3 hours(not talking about you guy in chopper hat)!!! Anyway as the con gets closer I will start pulling people together with real place to meet and things to do.

Good luck and have a happy con

How do I meet new people and make friends here?

I didn't want to reply to this, but for some reason felt I should.

I see... two possibilities of this. Either, you're trying to look for girls to hook up with, which is with the obvious "flattering" picture of yourself as an avatar and in the thread, instead of a real pic of yourself.

or you're an extremely pathetic person with very little social skills in general.

There's a 3rd possibility, but that's just a combination of the both.

Anyways. If you want to make friends, not just have people pity you, acting like a really really really really pathetic desperate loser isn't the way to go. Yes, people in this thread are replying to you, but that's either because they think you're hot... or pity you for the most part. You purposely went out of your way to set up that you're loser and have no friends, and that you'll be alone.

Stop being pathetic, and maybe people will actually like you for you. Banding together with people because you all think you're losers, really isn't productive... that's just misery loving company.

Do NOT talk like that to Zexion.  He's got a right to post a thread like this if he wants to, and he's already made friends from it.  It seems harmless enough, so just let it be.  I would appreciate it if you would keep your negative opinions to yourself.

No, I think I will talk to Zexion like that. He's got a right to post a thread like this if he wants to, and I have a right to reply to it if I want to.

Well seeing the amount of threads he's made, and how he's replying. I almost think it's a troll. I'm going to give the poster the benefit of the doubt and say it's not a troll, but I will offer up some advice as to some things, and to make it apparent as to how he's posting.

If you don't agree with me, that's fine, but keep in mind, you know nothing about Zexion. You're merely believing everything that was posted to heart, and don't even question how shady his posts have been up to this point.

I know this forum encourages meeting people and stuff like that (as I do myself), but it doesn't mean you can't be weary of people, and it also doesn't mean you shouldn't question people. How he's acting is very suspicious, as I said, or of someone that is helplessly anti-social. If it is the latter, my post pointed him in a direction to where he shouldn't be so creepy/pathetic. That's something that will help in the future, because acting desperate makes you... well... look desperate. It may work with other socially inept people, but outside in the real world, it doesn't.

PS: the irony of you acting in the exact way you're accusing me of being isn't even funny. It's just kinda... sad.

I'm on hiatus, check my email to see this crap? Good lord, grow up guys, stop white knighting people you probably have never met, and don't know, and Pyron, even though you may have valid points, tone it down a just a tad. And to the OP stop cluttering my section of the board with the same thread over and over again, just because they don't respond the first time, doesn't mean they'll respond to a 2nd thread. This is a warning to the op, don't pull that stuff again. I don't like attention whores.

Eh, you're right, I shouldn't of posted more than one thread, I am sorry.

And to Pyron-
I will not engage in this slander, for I see that all you want is attention for it.
You know nothing about me, and all you're doing is making accusations based on a post, now really, who here between us is the pathetic one?
No, I am not looking for a date, because if I was, it would be long distance, and I do not do long distance relationships.
Isn't it only human nature anyways to be looking for a mate? So why just accuse me of this horrendous crime of basic instinct?
Self pit? Not in the least. I am shy, but so are thousands of other people out in the world, what's your point?
Quite an accusation calling nearly all shy people self pity, for all I seek is friendship.
Now though, you make evidence that you are the one who is indeed the one who should have pity upon, causing torment to those who try to be open about themselves.
^_^

Anyways, thanks for everyone who replied (nicely).

Man, Mikey, you're so predictable. I quit checking the forums for months, come back and spot a typical "bait" thread and sure enough, within 2 pages you're wasting your time calling out the OP for being a loser/fool/troll. Don't  you get tired of doing this stuff?

Zexion, maybe threading isn't the best way to go about this.  consider using pm's, perhaps?

PM's are totally not always needed in times of altercations. I prefer the "post out in the open, as long as it follows forum regulations" route myself.

having friends for a long while. Yes, it does hurt. But sometimes
finding online friends who live near you or far away from you can
be really helpful if your anti-social, like iam. xD

And I have experienced online trolling and flamming before. Ive
had it happend to me alot on a different site. >w>; Yes, some people
can be rude and mean to others, and tend to pick on the innocent,
shy, useless, helpless, emo, anti-social people. I say not to associate
with those kind of people because they bring more drama to you, and
especially in forums like these. Sorry if this is like, two paragraphs long
but I wanted to point this out to the Pyron person.

Anyways! I'd be more then happy to be friends with you Zexion! And
if you want, you can join my Kingdom Hearts gathering here at the
Fanime forums! Im orginizing one along with the help of a friend.
So I will be glad to put you on the list!^^You kinda reminded me of
myself, so thats why I posted here. Heh. Its very nice to meet you
hun, and I hope things will get better here at the Fanime forums for
you. Hang with me and my KH group, and you will have plenty of
Kingdom Hearts cosplaying friends! :3

If you have any questions about my gathering, PM me, and
I will certianly anwser them for you. Hope to see you at the
Fanime con!-Wink- ;) And hello to everyone in these forums!^^

I don't know what I would do once I get there
I am a shy person, I cant just go up to people and start talking
>.<

Okay I have something to say to this person...
How do you know if that isn't a real picture of him or not?
And just because you have anti-social skills doesn't make
you pathetic. Alot of people have it, even me! So its not
really their fault. =w=;

And just because you want to make friends, or don't have
any friends, doesn't mean your a pathetic, desprate loser.
It just means you want to connect with the people around
the world, and want to open up and show who you truly are!
And he is actually trying to make people open up to him, so
he can actually communicate with the world and make friends.
So that doesn't make you desperate for doing that...

Why wouldn't he go out of his way to make this thread? He
had a good reason for doing it, maybe because of what you THINK.
So get a clue, stop nagging at new commers of Fanime forums, just
because it makes you look good or feel good, because seriously, it
doesn't make others feel good. Your only hurting yourself and
making people around here hating you...

Sorry about that Zexy, he has no right to come here
and insult you. -Hugs- Just ignore people like him kay? :3

Oh man this is going to be long...
It's not slander, slander is spoken. I'll just point out the irony from the get go. You're doing what you accuse me of doing, only yours is baseless, because I point out actual reasoning towards you, while you just claim it... because I'm pointing out reasons towards you.

You're incorrect, I do know things about you, just not on an extremely personal level, nor in detail. I know what you have shown on these forums, which actually ads to my point. People don't know much about you. Human reasoning should automatically be careful about things that are unknown. Things that are so openly suspicious, should be treated as suspicious. Sure, there is a chance that you are everything you said, and everything is all cut and dry happy happy. There's a chance that it isn't... Excuse me for being suspicious about someone who posts a picture like that, and then asks to meet people, on a forum that may contain young teenage girls. I'm pretty open, but even to me that's rather suspicious.

It's human nature to want to make friends, however there are ways to do that. How you go about it is not a normal way, nor is it a smart way.

Michiko Nakano: I'm going to say this as politely as possible. You really need to learn to get over yourself and stop acting like anything that can be taken negatively is bad. If you had any clue what I posted, you would realize on many different levels as to why I did it. And this may or may not offend you, but stuff like this doesn't cut it in the real world. Acting like how the OP does only works in social circles where people are socially inept and have to band together because they refuse to accept how the rest of the world acts. Had he posted how he did in almost any "normal" forum or community, he would have been actually flamed and at a degree hundreds of times anything I have come close to saying anywhere on these forums. If he wants to make friends, that's fine, he should learn how to do so without coming off as a potential pedo/socially inept kid/attention whore. He most certainly did that, and seeing that this forum is filled with under-aged members, I think I was justified in pointing that out.

RikuCosplayer: One... don't multi post. Put everything you want to reply with in one post.

Here's some advice for you. Stop blaming how you are on others, and stop just accepting that you're shy/useless/helpless/emo/anti-social. And the fact that you say innocent is laughable. Try attempting to be more socially and stop using anti-social like a crutch. Although it's easier to band together with socially inept people and blame everyone else for your problems, eventually you really need to come to terms that the rest of the world isn't wrong, and the majority of the problem is within you... and thusly solvable by you. The rest of the world doesn't hate you because you like anime, or are nerdy. You're not abnormal for liking the hobbies you do, you're abnormal because you're abnormal. You can like anime, and be nerdy, and play games, and still fit into normal society. The majority of staff are normal people with normal jobs and normal social lives and they run an anime convention. Take a look at them for a second and realize, they're not mutually exclusive. Society will accept you when you accept society and attempt to fit in.

As for your post directed towards me. How do I know? I don't. How do you know that is him? How do you know that is his motive? You don't either. You're making excuses and you're doing exactly what I explained in the prior paragraph. There are socially acceptable ways to do things, and their are unacceptable ways to do things. There's others on this forum that know this as well. People who wanted to make meetups and gatherings where no one showed up. No one showed up because they came off as incredibly creepy and overbearing. Or they came off as incredibly desperate and needy.

Then you think you're in the position to point out standards of living to me by stating that I'm only hurting myself by doing this. Yes. I am hurting myself by taking the time to point out things to you people, both readers and posters. I'm hurting myself by stating that if you want to make friends, you shouldn't do it by acting weak and desperate, because that's a turn off to people. I'm completely hurting myself by showing you how you can improve yourself and your outlook on things so that you might stop being anti-social and understand why the world sees and treats you like you do, and how you can get out of that.

Yes, you are right.

Please learn what a flame is. A flame is a pointless attack on a person with no reason other than to rile them up.

Why do I feel the need to do what I do? Because I hate it when people complain or blame things for their own shortcomings or faults in a public forum that I belong to on subject matters. I can also reroute it to, "people like you(general term) give my hobby a bad name" to allow it to be for a selfish reason.

You're free to not listen to me, and you're free to continue to act however you want, but it is part of my concern because it's in my presence and I feel a need to address it, in a horrid attempt that maybe you'll learn something and try and better yourself... and stop covering your ears and start attempting to address the problem, or... you'll leave and stop giving my hobby a bad name.

yes, but when you get flamed by enough people it's discouraging.

It's their own fault they get flamed, really. I'm not going to sugar coat everything on my side of the forums just because it's "mean." You guys need to realize people are harsher than others, just because they are, you can't go around being sheltered all your life. Of course, I would step in if it was wrong. This is not wrong in my eyes. If you have a problem, ignore it.

Okay I have something to say to this person...

And it's his thoughts, he can state it. Nowhere in the rules I state you can not. I leave it to the poster to be their own judge on what to post (while following forum rules.) Now should I step in? Possibly. Will i? No. Like I stated before I'm not sugarcoating ANYTHING. You're gunna have to deal with it, or ignore it.

keep it simple - understand that not everyone on this board is going to agree with you - that is the nature of the internets

take all comments- [positive or negative] ---> take it with a grain of salt so they say.

my original point was that Zexion made several threads and posts about the friendship or making friends - in my opinion it was excessive - in the eyes of others it could be seen as "needy" but the spin of positive/negative could sway either way.

I'm not defending nor am i siding with Pyron or Mizuki but they are open to make their opinions known just as well as Michi and Riku may reply as they see fit.

I still think everyone has their own way of making new friends, but its usually easier with a positive and easy going outlook on life. there's always a cynic or stubborn person in the crowd its how you deal with them that will in essence show us what your really personality is like...

then again its the internets, and just because its true here doesnt mean it will hold in real life :P

All I have to say is, wow. Just Wow. Mizuki is just plain rude.
She sides with people like Pyron who flames and insults people
like me, who only try to help people like Zexion with his problem.
Unlike Mizuki, the forum moderator, she doesn't help people with
their problems. She only makes them worse by siding with people
like Pyron, and agrees with him. Which I think is wrong and so not
cool. Then she Closes one of my threads, just because it is something
that she thinks is inappropriate. HAHA some moderater she is! She isn't
very helpful at all If I do say so myself. Thats all I have to say about
that. Oh and btw Mizuki, you should probally put in your rules that there
should be no flamming allowed, or trolling since I can't find a boyfriend
on any of these forums.

... Your thread doesn't belong on this forum because this forum is for get togethers and the such for forum members to organize meet ups. It clearly states it is not for cosplay gatherings or to attempt to find a bf. It's for SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

2ndly, Mizuki is a guy.

3rdly... you're exactly the person I was talking about in my previous post. Instead of finding fault in yourself and what you're doing, you blame others and say "I SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO WHATEVER I WANT AND YOU CAN'T CRITICIZE ME!" Just because what I said disagrees with you, you don't care to listen or understand why it was said, instead you're just whining.

I'm saying this because seriously, how you're acting is childish and it won't cut it in the real world. You really need to stop acting like a kid that thinks all of us are just crucifying you and try acting like... an adult.

Where did I state that I sided with Pyron Ikari? Just because I said "I'm not sugar coating anything" doesn't mean I'm siding with Pyron. How do you know I didn't PM him due to his possible attitude I might not agree with? Also I closed your thread because it didn't follow this section's rules. There's a cosplay gathering board right above my little section. I even stated in a sticky it doesn't belong here. Also slandering a moderator doesn't do well for being on my good side (not that the colors helped in the first place.) I am a moderator, a person who is supposed to be in the middle and deliver judgment to those who I feel have crossed my personal line. I am only pointing out things I see that are wrong. If Pyron did something wrong, do not worry, I would be on him just as fast as everything else on my sections (I would enjoy it too).

Here's some harsh words. Grow up.

I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions and such, but can't there simply just be constructive criticism? After living in the US, I realize many people have their own mannerisms, but can't we just try to get along. We are all people of similar interest, I'm sure many of us can simply come to terms if we just speak politely. (●⌒∇⌒●)

PyronIkari: I know that, I just thought I'd try to post
something like that to see if I could get a Sora cosplayer
to be my partner at the gathering, and to see if I would get
a Pm from a Sora cosplayer. I didn't mean to post something
like that in these forums. Im sorry, I had no idea Mizuki was
a guy because that name sounds like a girls name. Unless your
a guy cosplayed as a girl. I don't try to find fault in myself or
blame others! I was just proving my point on how you and
Mizuki act. But we do have our own opinions, and I respect
them. And that quote you put, kinda sounds like you no
offence. But your right Pyron, I do need to listen to what other
people have to say, including what you and Mizuki have to say
instead of whining. Also, I kinda like being childish, and Iam a
kid at heart sometimes. Doesn't mean Im childish all the time,
even if I try acting like one.

Mizuki: Well you were kinda siding with him in the last few posts
I read in this forum. But Im sorry for assuming Mizuki. Ok, I take
back what I said about you not being helpful. Your actually a
great moderator, and you close threads that aren't in the right
place, or threads that don't go where they belong. I give you
props! And thanks for pointing that out. I don't mean to blame
others on my problems, or be insulting, because I know Insulting
people here on forums is bad, and it just makes them hate you.
So Im sorry Mizuki I didn't mean to slander you.

Damn this was long reply! lolz
