FanimeCon 2013 Attendee Registration FAQ

Note: FanimeCon 2013 Registration will be moved from the convention center to the Regency and Imperial Ballrooms of the Fairmont San Jose

FanimeCon Registration Official 2013 hours

Thursday: 7pm-10pm
Friday: 8am-7pm
Saturday: 8am-7pm
Sunday: 8am-7pm
Monday: 8am-12pm

FanimeCon 2013 Prices:

FanimeCon 2013 At-Con Registration
Full Weekend (Friday through Monday): $65
Friday: $35
Saturday: $40
Sunday: $40
Monday: $30
Half-weekend (Sunday and Monday): $55
Children (10 and under): Free with paid membership

Please note that prices and dates are subject to change.

Pre-Registration
Q: What is Pre-Registration?

A: Pre-Registration is the initial period of online registration.

Q: When/Where can I pick up my membership for Pre-Registration?

A: Pre-Registration members can pick up their badges starting on Thursday, May 23, 2013; they will not be mailed beforehand. You can pick up your badge at the Pre-Registration/Early Registration area in the Imperial and Fairmont Regency ballrooms of the Fairmont Hotel. Please note that this location is different from previous years due to construction in the San Jose Convention Center.

Q: So I pre-registered, but does that mean that I HAVE to pick up my badge on Thursday?
A: No, Thursday is an additional day for Pre-Registration members to pick up their badge. You can pick up your badge from Thursday-Monday during the hours Registration is open.

Q: I pre-registered at the convention last year and was wondering how I am able to confirm that.

A: If you pre-registered for FanimeCon 2013 at FanimeCon 2012, your account information will be available soon. 
Q: Is there Pre-Registration for one-day memberships?

A: We do not offer online registration for one-day memberships. To purchase a one-day membership, please come on the day you wish to attend FanimeCon and wait in the At-Con registration line to purchase it.


Early Registration
Q: What is Early Registration?

A: Early Registration is the final period of online registration. As with Pre-Registration, you can only purchase Full Weekend memberships.

Q: When/Where do I go to pick up my membership for Early Registration?

A: Early Registration members can pick up their badge starting on Thursday, May 23, 2013 (please see the info about Thursday pickup above). Badges will not be mailed beforehand. You can pick up your badge at the Pre-Registration/Early Registration area in the Imperial and Fairmont Regency ballrooms of the Fairmont Hotel. Please note that this location is different from previous years due to construction in the San Jose Convention Center.

Q: Is there Early Registration for one-day memberships?

Group Registration
Q: What is Group Registration?

A: It is online registration for groups. This is so that one person, the group leader, can pay collectively for a group of people. Note that badge pickup is different for Group Registration. It still constitutes as Pre/Early Registration, depending on when you registered.

Q: Do we get discounts?

A: There are no discounts for group registration.

Q: Who can pick up the collective group’s badges? What does the leader need to pick up the badges?

A: Only the group leader can pick up the group’s badges. To prevent theft, no one else may pick up the group’s badges. The group leader must have either a current student ID or a valid government-issued photo ID during pick-up, otherwise no one in the group can pick up their badges. FanimeCon is not responsible for the distribution of the badges to the group members. Any lost badges will result in a reprinting fee.

Q: How long is Group Registration offered for?

A: It will be offered online only during Pre/Early Registration dates. When purchasing memberships during At-Con Registration, you must register separately, but you may pay collectively.

At-Con Registration
Q: What is At-Con Registration?

A: At-Con memberships range from Full Weekend to one-day memberships. These memberships are purchased during FanimeCon 2013, hence the phrase “At-Con.”

Q: When/Where do I go to purchase my membership for At-Con Registration?

A: You can purchase your FanimeCon 2013 membership starting on Friday, May 24, 2013, in the At-Con registration line.

Q: Is this the only time I can purchase one-day memberships?

A: Yes. One-day memberships are only available during At-Con Registration.

Q: If I buy a one-day membership but I want to come back for more days, what should I do?

A: During FanimeCon 2013, please come to Registration and let the staff know that you wish to upgrade your badge.

Q: Are kids 10 and under free?

A: Yes, children 10 and under are free with a paid adult membership. However, they still need a badge. To get a Child Membership, you will need to register in the At-Con registration line.

Q: What are the hours for At-Con Registration?

A: TBA

Payment
Q: What forms of payment do you accept for online registration?

A: The online registration system accepts major credit cards through PayPal. You do not need an account to use PayPal, just a debit/credit card. We will not be accepting checks for online registration this year.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept for At-Con Registration?

A: For At-Con Registration, we will accept cash, checks, and credit/debit cards except for American Express.

Q: So I made an online registration account before the price deadline but didn’t pay, and now it’s after the deadline. When I pay, will I pay the amount before the deadline, or the current price?

A: You will have to pay the current membership price, not the price from when your account was made.

Q: I registered online and already paid, but I can’t make it to FanimeCon 2013 anymore. Can I get a refund or could I give my membership to a friend?

A: Memberships are non-transferrable and non-refundable, as stated during checkout.


Pick-Up for Pre/Early Registration Badges
Q: What time/days is Registration open at FanimeCon?

A: We will be open from Thursday through Monday of FanimeCon. Thursday is exclusively for Pre-Registration members to pick-up their badges. Times will be announced later.

Q: What do I need to pick up my badge if I purchased my membership online?

A: Please bring a valid government-issued photo ID (such as a passport, driver’s license, or state-issued photo ID card) or a current Student ID. You will also need to bring the electronic postcard that will be attached to your registration account before FanimeCon. (Driver’s/Learner’s Permit and Birth Certificates do not count as valid government-issued photo ID.)

Q: Wait, I can use my Student ID to pick up my badge?
A: Yes, we will be accepting current Student IDs this year.

Q: What is the electronic postcard?

A: It is a document that lists your registration information. It will be available to you closer to FanimeCon – we will email you and make an announcement. Make sure to print out the electronic postcard and bring it with you to pick up your badge.

Q: I am under 18 and do not have a driver’s license or passport – what do I do?

A: All FanimeCon members must have either a student ID or a valid government-issued photo ID. If an attendee is under 18 and does not have either a government-issued photo ID or student ID, they can still pick up their badge if their parent or legal guardian accompanies them to Registration. The parent or legal guardian must have a valid government-issued photo ID that is consistent with the information listed on the attendee’s registration. The parent or legal guardian is not required to purchase a badge and does not need to accompany the attendee at all times, but will still be responsible for the attendee’s behavior and actions.

Q: I am a parent or legal guardian that accompanied my child to pick up their badge; can I still accompany my child without purchasing a membership?

A: You are welcome to accompany your child throughout the convention concourse and video screening rooms. However, you will not be able to enter special events or badged areas (such as MusicFest, Black & White Ball, or the Gaming Hall) without purchasing your own membership.

Q: Are badges mailed to my address, or do I have to pick them up?

A: FanimeCon does not mail badges, so you will need to pick them up during the hours Registration is open.

Q: I can’t make it to the hours of Registration. Can I have a friend pick up my badge for me?

A: We do not allow people to pick up other people’s badges. The only exception is Group Registration, where the group leader picks up all badges.

Miscellaneous
Q: Can I come on Thursday to purchase memberships?

A: No, Thursday is only for Pre-Registration members who have already paid online and wish to pick up their badge at that time.

Q: I registered online, but my information has changed/is different from what is on my identification/I want to change my information. What do I do?

A: If you have a registration account but have not purchased your membership, you may edit your information by clicking on the appropriate boxes. If you have already purchased your membership, please email Registration at registration@fanime.com for help.

Q: Why does my information need to match my ID?

A: This is so we can verify that the person on the badge is actually you. Without confirmation, we cannot give you your badge.

Q: What is the “Name on Badge”?

A: It’s a secondary name that can be a nickname. It is optional, but please note it must be family appropriate. This was formerly known as a “fan name.” Your legal first and last name will still be displayed on the badge in addition to your “Name on Badge”.

Q: I have a 2-year-old child. Do I still have to pay for a Full Weekend membership?

A: Child Memberships are for children 10 and younger at the time of FanimeCon, and are free with a paid adult membership and are valid for the entire weekend. The child must be present while they register their information at FanimeCon and they must be accompanied at all times by their parent or legal guardian. If you need to acquire a Child Membership, please let a Registration Staff member know.

Q: I am buying a membership for someone else; whose name do I put on it? Mine, or the person I am buying it for?

A: Because this is a membership, please put the person’s name that is attending FanimeCon. Please do NOT put the name of the credit/debit cardholder. FanimeCon memberships are non-refundable and non-transferrable.

Q: Do I HAVE to put my real name?

A: Because we check for a valid government-issued photo ID or student ID when you pick up your membership, the legal names MUST match or we will not release the membership badge to you.

Q: I registered online but I can’t make it to FanimeCon 2013, even though I already paid. Do you give refunds?

I'm the one most knowledgeable of the site and the only one with a paypal account so it's best I do it for all of us. Can we still do that this year or do I have to register all 3 of us separately?

Hope this is okay here...but one small question. How many people is a group? Last year I was able to register all three of us as a group. I'm the one most knowledgeable of the site and the only one with a paypal account so it's best I do it for all of us. Can we still do that this year or do I have to register all 3 of us separately?

2 makes a group! No discounts, but ease of pickup. Please note all the restrictions that come with group registration!

Any notice on exact time when we can register tomorrow? I know you're shooting for noon but it doesnt hurt to ask. Especially when a lot of us are in class/at school/at work

Knocking on wood, everything should be available to launch at noon. We don't "sell out," so there isn't a big rush to register right away for memberships.

Finally accepting student IDs? Thank god! This will make Reg so much easier for ASAHi. :3

Also, I noticed Thursday says Pre-reg and not early reg. Have you gone back to this policy? Just lookin for confirmation. :)

This is new! Are these the same rooms that were used for the Swap Meet last year?

It is still the same, especially since Pre-reg/early reg can be in groups (which is the main reason of why you can pick up early reg on Thursdays).

Yes it was where Swap Meet was last year - the upstairs huge ballrooms in the Fairmont. It was used for BWB a few years back.

Does that mean we have to stand in 2 different lines to get our badges - one for pre-registration to pick up our group badges, and one for the At-Con registration to get my daughters in?

Kinda wondering what the benefit of pre-registration is for us at this point.

We usually do not release how many rooms are available, and *I* actually have no idea, despite being in my position for six years.

I may have overlooked this somewhere but what are the prices going to be for PreReg?

We are opening at $50.

No, the registrations are independent. We highly recommend that you register for hotels first.

No, so what you would do is when you check in, tell the registration staff that you have X amount of kids that are 10 and under, and they'll just register them on the spot using your information, and print the badge right there.

You can pay by debit card through paypal (you do not need to make an account). We don't have an age limit, but know that you have to have AT LEAST school ID + e-postcard (available later on) OR valid govt. photo ID to pick up the group's badges.

That date has not been set yet. We had previous price breaks set, but are looking at extending them more. Long and short, can't really tell you yet.

Yes, in the past it has always been separate. This is the first time any of the staff at AA have mentioned that artists will be able to purchase their registration at the same time as their tables. But there's no guarantee that you'll get the discounted rate they're advertising today if it takes longer for AA to go up - and there's no additional discount on your registration FROM buying an AA table. You still pay the whole price for both.

I do groups every year, you can register people into your group whenever doesn't have to be all today. If they don't register for pre-reg with the rest of the group though you will have to go to the early reg line to pick theirs up. At least that's how it's been in the past for me.

Yes you should jump on your hotel registration today as hotel rooms are limited in number. Attendee badges are not.

What you said about Artist Alley is partially correct. You have to have a paid attendee badge in order to purchase an Artist Alley table. Said another way, you can register for an Artist Alley table without an attendee badge, but that does not mean you have the table until you are approved and paid for. Once you are approved for a table, you must have a paid attendee badge before you can pay for the Artist Alley table.

Today we are opening up attendee registration (NOT Artist Alley registration). So it is up to you whether you want to pay for a possibly cheaper rate on attendee registration versus later on when it could be $5 to $10 more.

So wouldn't it be safer to have purchased that membership badge in order to get the artist alley table? As you never know who can swipe in and snatch a table and pay faster then you while you're off paying for normal membership.

If I'm bringing a child, and I'm not the leader of the group I'm pre-registering with (so I'm not the one picking up the badges), how do I get my child registered? It says that you can register them on the spot at the pre-reg line, but the leader isn't the child's guardian.

Would I have to line up in the At-Con line just to register the child? Also, I am 17. Can I register my 10 year old sister and be the guardian that watches her, or do we have to buy a badge for a parent?

Your name must be your correct full name. (unless you have a substantially legitimate reason, i.e. documented history of a stalker with appropriate supporting proof). However, it looks like the fan name will be more predominant on the badge than your name, as requested in previous years.

Yes, we'll announce the next price tier before we actually change it. I can't say when, though.

If you paid for FanimeCon 2013 on the last day of FanimeCon 2012, you won't be able to access your account just yet. We have not yet loaded that information into the database. We will e-mail you and announce it on the main website for when we do so.

So, I actually had a question about those of us who purchased our registration for this year the last day of Fanime 2012. I've never actually done that before, so I wanted to know, when do we usually get access to our information? (Badge number, etc.?) I'm going to guess it's a safe bet that if I made an account to register right now, my information wouldn't be there.

So my registration predicament hmm. So I'm going to be picking up my Pre Reg Badge on Thursday however this year I have the pleasure of bringing my seven year old cousin for a day or two. Obviously he's 7, so woo free badge for him. So on Thursday what I'm concerned about is that he'll still be in school or possibly won't be able to make it on Thursday so he could get his badge with me. Would it be possible to get a childrens badge for him even if he's not there. I know that already sounds wrong. -_-

Following question then pertains to if I can't. In which obviously it would be a pain to go through the registration line just to get a childrens badge. So where would I go to get a children's badge? preferably to get one asap. providing I brought the child with me any other day besides Thursday. That or as stated on the FAQ I just let any staff member know that I'd like to register a child?

In my experience, you can indeed add group members afterward.

Good answer. BUT note that the cost of the membership is when the account is paid and not when the information is entered. I can't input the info now and pay in April, expecting that I pay current rates in April.

Also, after early reg closes in some undetermined date in mid-may, all unpaid persons in an account will be deleted, purged, disapparated, or relegated to that deep dark hole where bits and bytes go to die. So, even if you enter your info online, there is no way to retrieve it when you get to con. You must reenter the information.

Greetings,

I'm doing a group registration, can we add additional members after we pay for the group reg for said price? For example, I have 5 people so far who are have jus paid for the $50 fee. Then I have people who want to join in but the $50 rate has already passed the closing date but are willing to pay the $55.

If this still possible or once group reg has paid, or are we not able add anymore after everyone in the $50 has already paid?

In the past its been as late as April, but looks like we will be getting it up a bit earlier. Maybe this month, possibly in March.

If you aren't sure if you actually pre-reged at Fanime 2012 and want to confirm, you can probably e-mail reg with your info and we can see if you're in the database.

I have a suggestion that I hope will benefit others as well...

I nearly missed the date for the price increase for badges today (because hey, it's Valentines day after all - it's easy to forget these things). I only by chance stumbled upon the price increase dates in this thread a few days prior to this, and I don't think I would have known had I not paid attention to the forums. I know it's also in the Reg FAQ on the website, but do you think we could have these dates a little more conspicuous? I mean, like reminders being posted on Facebook/Twitter/front page of website the day before the increases happen? The social media outlets could be used a bit more than they currently are. I think people would appreciate these reminders, especially if it means saving a few dollars!  ;)

No, tables aren't sold out. They haven't announced or opened registration yet. As far as an answer as to when, there's nothing been announced there either. Apparently there are quite a few delays this year...

I am not 100% sure about the logistics as I do not have my materials in front of me, but even if you cannot change it on the system once you have paid, you can email registrationATfanimeDOTcom and they can change it for you

Whe you get your email confirming that your account had been uploaded you can confirm online. If it is not there, you can have the reg staff update it for you. Make sure to do that before May comes around tho, we usually lock down the database early May.

Do you mean artwork, or access? If you buy any membership, it includes both FanimeCon and Clockwork Alchemy access. As for artwork... we'll see. ;) We're still in the process of finalizing some things.

They made the announcement previously. Emails aren't going out to individuals, rather use the "forgot password" function on the login screen, and that will trigger the system to give you an email for finishing the set up for your account. You can then log back in to the Fanime website and get your badge information.

I went for Day Zero and left because of the line but I'm sure most of thursday/friday can be attributed to the black out causing huge problems for badge pickups.

I'm not staff or any way affiliated with registration but I think I've read in older threads that they only start turning people away after a certain time so that the staff can finish the people who are there and not stay into the late hours of the night. Personally speaking I get that, since their volunteers I wouldn't expect them to stay until midnight because of a surge of people lining up just before closing but that might just be my feeling towards it.

The FAQ still says only pre and early can pick up on Thursday, so I think something's mismarked here... though I'm surprised as much as you are if you can only start picking up your badge at 7pm...

Thurs pickup is still only prereg and early reg, I'll think about how to better phrase that. As for 7, that's right. There was some scheduling anomaly, so we cant open earlier.

Any and all online-purchased memberships are welcome to be picked up on Thursday. However, with the really late hours this year, it might be a really long wait depending on how many people show up to pick up their badge then.

There is only one line for pick-ups, so there will not be any special line for group registration pick-up.

It's fine to have it on your smart phones BUT just in case, I would print it out (knock on wood for any impending power outages).

Unfortunately no, the person registering must be present. Another person can pay, but they must be present.

I went ahead and preregistered online, but never got around to paying and now the online reg is closed... Can I stand in the pre/early reg line to pay for and pick up my badge or do I have to do an at-con registration now? As I sit here waiting for my half day to finish at work so I can head down to the badge line I begin to wonder if getting there early even matters anymore.  I could get there 3 hours early and get through in about 1-2 later.  Or I could arrive nearly on time and have to wait to get through in 3-5 hours.  I've always gone really early but have started to wonder about this. So I'm wondering if the time pretty much evens out.

Has anyone experimented?

Please bring your e-postcard and a photocopy of your group leader's ID- preferably government-issued (state ID/Govt. ID) and your hardcopy ID.
