To be honest
Swatstikas do not bother me.When it comes to Hetalia cosplayers though it's the disrespect to the flags that put me in a tiff. (Dragging on Floor)...Just my opinion on this matter it can be viewed poorly.

...But to be honest...

What does Swastikas have to do with Occupy Wall Street? ???

don't apply logic to ron paul supporters, it's like water and oil...

I've got a question for those of you who have booked with Fanime in previous years - what are the chances that space will open up at the Marriott later on? :<  I had class when rooms went up and missed the Marriott. T^T;;

No promisses, but there is hope.

Two years ago I missed my chance to get a room at the Marriott; I checked back every day and especially on and around the deadline to cancel and I got a room that someone released. It takes a little patience, persistence and luck but it CAN happen.

Hotel: Marriott
Book Again: Yes (stayed there ever since the con moved to San Jose and wouldn't stay anywhere else)
Pros: Price, location, TV hook ups.
Cons: No room fridge

Bring back the room keys next year!  This was a great addition. :D

From what I understood (I could be wrong) that the cost of hotel/air fair for Ryan was too expensive. Unless there is a drop for air fair from Indianpolis to San Jose, don't think we will see Anime Hell for quite a while. Only thing possible is to have a west coast branch run a version created by the Anime Hell guys...but that wouldn't be the same. IDK. :(

I hope you are wrong :(
My partner and I were pretty big fans, this had become like a must-see event every fanime the last few years.

Maybe the thing to do is invite a 4 member band from Japan instead of 5 so we can get him out here ;P

WiFi

Not sure if there actually was free WiFi in the convention center, but if there was I didn't see it. I seem to remember fanime used to have free WiFi in the convention center in the past, and if the direction the con is going to to have more of it's facilities online (like schedules etc) it might be a good idea to provide access to these resources to those without 3G enabled devices.  My group had no problems since we all had smart phones, but I'm sure we're not the typical fanime attendee.

Anime Hell

I don't know why Anime Hell was not at fanime this year, but hopefully it will be back next year because this is one of my favorite events and it not being at fanime this year was a bummer.

Video Programming

I thought the video programing could have used a little more variety in the shows it was presenting.  One idea I had was to have just one more room where each day would be dedicated to a different genre and show 2 or 3 episodes of various shows within that genre so fans can discover new shows they never would thought to try.  You could even have themed blocks.  For example: Friday is Mecha day where all the shows are Mecha themed, and from 6pm to 9pm you have a special "If you like Gundam you probably will like..." block.

Live Programming

I'm not saying to get rid of them, but many of the panels seemed like high school book reports or drama class sketches.  Not that there is anything wrong with these per-se, and I'm sure many folks enjoy them so that's fine, but maybe there could be a room dedicated to industry panels or panels that feature pros and/or guests of honor or have them marked in the schedule so people know a little bit more about what they are going to.

Music Fest

This is one of those "you can't please everyone all the time" kind of things, and I understand that, but I would like to see more variety in the musical guests fanime brings.  Two years in a row with 2/3 of the same musical guests makes me hope for something new at fanime 2012.

Gaming

Only complaint was no Naruto Shippuden UNS2 tournament.  Every time the game was being played on one of the TVs it drew a big crowd of folks wanting to play.  I understand everyone wants tournaments for the mainstream fighting games (SF/MK/BB/GG/SSB/etc), but this is also is an anime convention and there should be tournaments for some anime themed games.  I would say even themed tournaments where cosplayers play as their character and fight it out for prizes would be excellent entertainment on stage0 or in the gaming hall.

;D I love that you add Blazblue and AH3 is a nice touch.

:-[ but no "Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 2"  :'( :'( :'(

Can you at least tell me why?  :-[ :-\

Other then that the list is fantastic :D

:(

If there is no tourny will there at least be copies of the game to play at eGaming?  Don't want to have to lug my PS3 from home so I can get my Ninjas on.

Registration / Re: Lanyards this year?
May 06, 2011, 01:16:13 PM
good news about the lanyards.

what my girlfriend and I like to do is bring a lanyard from a prior con just in case they don't have them.  i know this is a different con, but at comic-con in san diego every year the peanuts booth sells really nice and very cool exclusive lanyards; we like to bring a couple of these to match our clothes (they come in a variety of colors).

The only game I want a tournament for is Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2.

:) What?  :o no Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2!? Please put that in. I definitely want to request that.

I also want to request Blazblue Continum shift 1 (or 2 Since its suppose to come out in may). But my main request is Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2. 8)

I also want to say that last year (2010) you guys did a great job with running your tournaments. It was much better (in my opinion) than the 2009 tournaments.  ;D

this please!
my girlfriend and i have been training!
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 please :D

Video Programming / Re: Nostalgia Room ideas
April 13, 2011, 01:50:12 PM
One thing I would really like to see are some REALLY obscure shows from these periods.  I don't know a whole lot myself, but I can suggest a few.  They may be hard to get a hold of, but even in raw Japanese some really obscure and under appreciated shows would be great to have in the Nostalgia Room.  Here are a couple I know of:
Moon Base Dallos
Plawres Sanshiro
Bavel no Hon
Gosenzosama Banbanzai!

As for the more well-known stuff:

70's and before:
Hakujaden - widely considered the "first" anime.
Heidi, Girl of the Alps - Isao Takahata's breakthrough show, started the whole "World Masterpiece Theatre" phenom.
Future Boy Conan - Hayao's Miyazaki's sci-fi adventure show, would love to see some of this.
Mazinger Z - Mazinger 'nuff said.
Gatchaman - another classic.

80's
Yamato (this might be 70s, not 100% sure)
Macross
Urusei Yatsura
Megazone23
Angel's Egg
Night on the Galactic Railroad
Tale of Genji
Arion
Ranma 1/2 (is this 80's or early 90s?) marathon would be fantastic!

90s
Otaku no Video
Nadia
Eva (of course)
Serial Experiments Lain
Cowboy Bebop

2000s
Monster
Mushishi
Fantastic Children
Crest of the Stars (and the sequels)

I'll also have all the console Cave ports over on eGaming, so whatever isn't in arcade will be over there.

in the past there has always been a cave shooter in the arcade (last year was um, mushihimesama? or was it espgaluda i can't remember) as long as there is one of these in the arcade (i don't care which one really, dodonpachi/mushihimesama/espgaluda/whatever) my partner and i will be happy. :)

I don't see anime hell on the list.  I hope that's an omission as over the past few years it has become one of my favorite video events at fanime.

if you liked that check out the rifftrax (rifftrax.com) of "Shaking Hands With Danger."  Less gory, but all the more funny thanks to the fantastic rifftrax commentary :D

marriott has HDMI inputs on the TVs.  I don't know about the other hotels.

I'd like to see some of the newer anime-related games there.

The 2nd Naruto fighting game for the ps3/360 is pretty enjoyable. A tournament would be fun; even better, a tournament featuring cosplayers playing as their character! ;P

Cons
- Dealer's room was probably the worst dealer's room for me in the 10 years i've gone to fanime.  this, of course, is not fanime's fault as it is a confluence of factors outside the convention's control. it is also subjective as i'm sure there is someone out there who got a lot of "stuff" they were pleased with and felt was obtained for a fair price.
- Asian film room is one of my favorite parts of fanime, but this year there was only 1 film I really wanted to see, and it was scheduled at 5am on Monday, which made it very difficult to attend.  I understand that scheduling is scheduling and there is always something that needs to go in that spot and it is a decision that must be made to the ire of someone out there.  The film in question "Heaven's Door" was one I felt perhaps could have used a more 'prime' spot than arguably the worst possible slot (the film is directed by the same person who directed "Tekkonkinkreet" and has a soundtrack by Plaid).  Failing that maybe having 2 asian film rooms so there could be encores of films or at least 2 showings of each film at a different time as has been done in years past would alleviate this?

Pros
- Registration : great job as usual. Never had a problem with reg at fanime.
- Swap Meet : had a lot of great people / items and I enjoyed having it in the arcade.  Was more interested in merch here than in dealer's room to be honest.
- Video Rooms : like registration great job as usual.  had nearly no technical issues in the video's i saw, many movies/series I wanted to see.
- Most panels were great and started on-time and had excellent content.  The ones that weren't so great were largely the fault of the presenter or situations outside of fanime's control.
- Arcade : had a great selection of games for someone like me. very satisfied.
- Mobile schedule was very nice. very useful if you have a smartphone/laptop.

Overall one of the best fanime conventions in the 10 i've been to, and that's no easy task!  i know it's a hard line to balance for fanime to retain it's unique 'culture' as compared to other conventions, while still supporting a lot of attendees and running things smoothly. they certainly accomplished that this year in my experience. so maybe 80-85%/B?
