If they actually put off smoke, I'd think you'd be asked to put them away.

Prices vary depending on which day you come. Friday and Saturday should cost about the same amount, Sunday a little less, and Monday the cheapest.

Going off of last years prices and the slight increase this year, I imagine $40 should cover whichever day you came. However, thats just an educated guess. Official prices should be up soonish.

Regular backpacks should be fine. I carried one with me last year and had no problems. I'm not sure about the roller bags though. I know you aren't supposed to use dollies or hand trucks to move your goods around (say to the swap meet), but I don't know if that applies to wheeled backpacks.

A: All Fanime members must have valid government issued ID. The only exception are those under 18 attending with a responsible guardian (of the parental caliber). The guardian must also be a Fanime member and have valid government issued ID. The guardian will be responsible for the minor and all his or her actions.

You could email registration again though. Why didn't you ask that the first time?

For pre-registration, they check your ID as soon as you get up to the booth and hand them your postcard. For registering at con, I think they check when you reach the booth an they take your information. I've never registered at con, so Im not positive how the process works.

The first step to picking up your badge will be to email and find out what you can do for ID. Second step will be to print out your electronic post card. This has information about your registration and helps the whole process move faster. You can print it out at home from the registration tab after you log in. I dont think it has been posted yet. Bring this print out and whatever you work out to prove your identity with you to pick up your badge. If you're going on Thursday to pick up your badge early, you line up in the convention center. You cant miss the line. You're friend will not be able to register at this time. If you are going to pick up your badge on Friday, both you and your friend will have to stand in separate lines. Im not sure who your dad will have to stand in line with, so best to ask that when you email registration as well.

I believe she will also need an ID.

Food wise, I've always done a mixture of bring it yourself and eating out.

I always go with about 3 or 4 other people. We all chip in for a flat of ramen, 2 cases of water, and healthy snacks like granola bars and fruit. These are used as snacks! As anyone who has had to live on ramen or spaghetti or mac & cheese will tell you, it sucks. Even if you are just doing it for a weekend.

Buy food to take with you, and safe an extra $15 or so each day for food. If you have leftover money at the end of the weekend, then all the better.

If you're worried about getting lost in the convention, I wouldn't. There are info booths with maps all over the place, and if that fails you can always ask a fellow con goer.

If $50-$100 is your spending money and doesn't include food, then you shouldn't have too much to worry about. Especially if you're only going for a day or two. If you find something in the dealers hall, but don't have the money, grab one of the booth's business cards and look them up later. Chances are they have a store front or website.

Going alone is only difficult financial wise. The hotel can be pretty expensive to pay for all by yourself.

What else is neat?

I always enjoy Musicfest. I've usually never heard of the bands playing, but its a great way to open up your musical horizons.

Whenever I fall into a lull or am waiting for something to start is usually when I go on a food run or head back to the hotel for some snacks.

And, if for some reason you just cant find anything to satisfy you at the convention, you've got all of downtown San Jose at your disposal.  

The only food I bought at the convention center last year was nachos. They were ok but really over priced. I think the soda machines were about $3.00 or $4.00.

As Chiri said, there are cheap restaurants (ie. McDonald's, Jack-N-The-Box, Pita Pit) within a few blocks that would be a better bet. Your badge lets you in and out of the convention at will for the whole day, so no need to worry about not being allowed back in.

I'm not sure what else you can use as ID, but if you email [email protected] they should be able to help you.

As for the post card, it has not been released yet. Its just a paper print out with your registration information. It makes badge pick up go alot faster. You can print it out on the main site under the registration tab.

If I recall correctly, the dance/rave lasts till the wee hours of the morning. Around 3am I think.

You don't buy a ticket so much as you register to attend. But aside from that...

1. Yes, you can register at the door. You can register for a single day or for the whole weekend, both options have the same line I believe. Currently, registration for the whole weekend is $60. The price for singe day passes has yet to be posted, and the price is different according to which day it is. For instance, a Saturday pass will cost more then a Monday pass. If you think you'll stay more then one day, it will be cheaper to by a full weekend pass instead of 2 single day passes. You register and pay for your pass inside the convention center. As soon as you enter through the main entrance, you'll see the line. If for some reason you can't find it, feel free to ask some one. Just about anyone standing around outside will know where to send you.

2. The only place to register for Fanime is on the Fanime website pr at the convention itself. There is a link at the top of the site to register and pay for your pass. Again, if you plan on going for more then 1 day then it is worth it to register before the convention. I think the full weekend price will remain the same from now to the convention. If not, it should only go up about $5. Another perk to registering for the full weekend is that if you decide to stay, you wont have to stand in line again the second day, because you'll already have your pass.

If you have a passport, that will work just fine. Otherwise, try emailing [email protected] and you should be able to work something out.

To be 100% honest, I've gone to Fanime the last 5 years and I've never been asked to show ID to pick up my badge. Obviously that's not something that's supposed to happen, but the folks that run pick up are only human.

I've never stayed past 5:00pm on Monday, Everyone packs up and leaves fairly early to get back to their everyday lives.

Well...having stayed at the Marriot last year, I'm not sure if they charged me the deposit. If they did, it cleared after I paid at check-out.

Now, is this $2/ day convention charge and tourist tax a new thing? It's not automatically included into my hotel cost from what I can see in the Fanime hotel confirmation e-mail. However, last year I was not charged these two items at check out either, it was just the total 3 night cost plus 10% city tax.

I'm staying at the Hilton this year and in my confirmation all these extra charges are itemized. I cant remember if its a new thing or not, I dont have the email from last year anymore to double check.

i just put in for time off for fanime

I put in for time off for Fanime, months ago. I like to plan things ahead of time.

there are some limits at my job. if you put in for something too soon, they'll forget or loose the paperwork.

They do that at my job a lot too. I request Fanime off in January and make a copy of my request form after I get my manager to sign it. Then if they say they lost the paper work, I can just whip out my copy and demand my day off. Also, Memorial Day weekend is whats called a black out holiday where no one is supposed to request the day off. But since its a different day every year, if you request it early enough no one realizes what day it is until that month. At which point there's nothing they can do about it since I got it approved 4 months ago.

I'm also the only one that does my job, and when I take a day off they have to get someone else to cover for me. Unfortunately the one that usually covers for me also got that weekend off. Meaning I'm going to have a lot of catching up to do when I get back.
